It appears that Rumple sacrificed his sanity and remaining hold on the light in order to save Alice from an immortal life guarding the Dark One Dagger. What did you think of this sacrifice? Is there any real way for Rumple to find Belle in the afterlife now? Also, Rumple didn’t actually revert to evil, just looking like the Dark One–how does that work??

Everyone here knows by now how I feel about Rumpel’s death wish, so I won’t mention it any more often than the show does. (I know, for all practical purposes that’s not a limitation.)
Suicidal wishes are as dark as wishes ever get. Rumpel won’t get rid of his darkness by continuing to embrace his death wish.
It’s hugely disrespectful, too, to Belle, for Rumpel to keep insisting that she is the source of all the goodness in his life, that she is the source of his entire capacity to be a good person. That’d be emotional blackmail if Belle wasn’t already dead. As it is, Rumpel is just offloading all of his responsibility to manage his own life onto someone who can’t fight back.

Remember, right before the curse he said he kept Gold in a special room in his head. So I think it was just a slow crawl for the insanity of the dark one to retake him once it started.

I don’t think he wants to commit suicide, I think he wants to live and die like a normal mortal person. I don’t think that is dark, I actually think it is quite the opposite.

Again I disagree, I don’t think he thinks Belle IS the goodness in him, he stated that Belle was always able to SEE the good in him. Rumple has always thought the worst of himself even before he was the dark one, Belle helps him see the good inside of himself and to live up to that potential. That isn’t selfish, emotional blackmail, or even offloading responsibility, that is trying to be the best version of ourselves and have the person we love be proud of us. It is what love is.
What did you think of this sacrifice?
I think the sacrifice proves everything I just said, that Rumple is a good person who wants to make right decisions. He does this not to get back to Belle but because he truly is who Belle has always seen, a Good Man with a Pure Heart.

That’s a pretty good point. I actually don’t know that Rumple is going to rid himself of his curse and then tie a rope around his neck. I think he wants to pass like Belle did, of old age. So it’s not exactly a suicide mission and I sincerely hope it doesn’t play like that on screen when/if the time comes.
