During that scene between Regina and Rumple where they were talking about how his son could not even bring out the good in him. She asked him who will?
Could this be foreshadowing? I always thought that his undoing would be the shedding of his power. Now I think so more than ever.
Now that we know Henry is Rumple’s grandson. Maybe he is able to get through to Rumple because he has no reason to be the dark one. He became the dark one to save his son. He used his powers to find him. Now their together again and Bae is safe. Henry may be able to help him realize that he does need to be the dark one anymore.

Love this idea! Hope it comes true!

Problem is that having his power is in direct conflict with at least one of the things he cares about protecting with it at this point. Poor guy.

Agreed. Obviously he, (and everyone watching) automatically thought of Belle when Regina said that, but it’s more likely that the person will end up being Henry IMO.
I don’t think he’ll willingly give up his powers, but there will be some situation involving Henry that will force him into it. Maybe it will also somehow involve the favour he now owes Charming.
April 22, 2013 at 1:22 pm #187745lilysmomParticipantI really hope his decision to not kill Henry has to do with his favor to Charming.
April 22, 2013 at 3:22 pm #187765KebParticipantHe obviously doesn’t -want- to kill Henry. Partly out of affection for his own son, of course, but he liked Henry and was friendly to him (save for once he connected him to the prophecy) from the start. I think this is partly his soft spot for kids in general (which we haven’t had much opportunity to see, but he did save the kids from the war as Morraine described, he likes to ask for babies, and he always wanted a family), but I think Rumple-Gold always had some affection for Henry. Perhaps partly because he realized he gave the poor kid to the Evil Queen, who, you know, sends kids to kid-eating witches. (His whole “this is what you do with my gifts!” to King George re James’ death seems to perhaps echo that on some level…)
Some have argued that his stealing the True Love potion from Emma and Regina in 122 was tantamount to letting Henry die, but I don’t think it was. I think he knew, on some level, that the kid would be revived by Emma. He knew the curse was about to break, and he might have had visions about how. We don’t actually know. Being Rumple, he used the situation to his advantage, of course. Wait, what was I arguing? Oh, yeah. Gold likes Henry even if he’s now a threat to him. That’s why the dream disturbed him so much, and that’s why he sought Belle’s help at that point.
Though I still want to know why he didn’t go to her earlier since at least a week (and presumably more considering how far along the beans are) has past since he recovered. That bothers me. Maybe he was scared of her not knowing him or her reaction to the fact that he’s alive or maybe he was still researching other options to bring her back. I dunno. Doesn’t look like he’s been bonding with Bae, though, since he’s just watching them from a distance.

April 23, 2013 at 2:37 pm #188051swanning-offParticipantYeah – Rumple seems to like the kids. And not in a creepy way – in a genuine way. The fact he’s having nightmares about killing Henry – not fantasies, nightmares. He is struggling with the divide between what he always said he would do and what it would mean to actually do it. That is a positive step for him.

Love That.
Because he lost his son the way he did, I feel like he always has had that soft spot for kids. If anyone can make him change his ways, its a young boy.

Not only do we not know exactly what “undoing” means, but we don’t know how it might happen. It could be an action of Henry’s that is his undoing, but it could also be that saving Henry is his undoing or harming him is his undoing. It could also be his fear of him or worrying about him. Getting Henry out of the way could be the cause itself!
If it is what will be and not what could be, then there’s no way he can escape it- it will happen regardless.
I agree that Gold is having a powerful internal struggle- he doesn’t want to hurt Henry but he doesn’t trust himself.
