I always just assumed he could teleport (or any equivalent name for it) …
[adrotate group="5"]March 19, 2012 at 7:13 pm #139215hjbauParticipantHe seems to be in the room though. Like he heard what was said. And the queen apparating was all smokey like. What Rumpel does is different. I don’t know though. I think he goes invisible.

I’m not sure Rumple’s point in giving SW the bow and arrow was ever to kill the queen. Like we have seen before, he carefully answers SW question in a way that she wants but perhaps has a deeper meaning. Rumple carefully chooses the words “The arrow never misses it’s target” but who is it to say that Charming wasn’t the target all along. Perhaps in order for the two hairs to combine into the love potion, they had to be in love in that moment. It was clearly paralleled that as SW and Charming kissed again, Rumple bottled their hairs together.
Completely agree with this. Which leads me to think that Rumple acquired that special love makin’ bow and arrow from a guy named Cupid, (they’ve already used Midas, so we know that figures from ancient mythologies are fair game in this Fairytale-verse). Wonder if in a future ep we’ll see poor Cupid get vaporised like the poor Fairy Godmother was. 😯
Count me in the group who doesn’t believe that Rumple can see the future. He lives to manipulate people into doing what he wants, cheeky bugger that he is. So he decides what he wants to happen, tells someone it’s gonna happen, then sets about making it happen. The result is he ends up looking like he predicted the future, which makes him appear more powerful than he really is, so folks are a bit more scared of him, which is always fun.
Whatever his end game with this curse is, he’s been planning it at least since Snow and Charming came to his attention, possibly even before. He just needed the perfect loved up couple to come along for his plan to work. He manipulated them into situations where he could get the hairs from them both, so he could bottle love, so he could build it (ie: Emma) into the curse as the antidote.
I suspect his reason for creating the curse may have something to do with him trying to put an end to all magic. After Belle, maybe he realised that being The Dark One isn’t really all its cracked up to be. He doesn’t want the dark power any more, he doesn’t deserve it, it doesn’t make him happy because he rejected his chance at happiness because of being power hungry, and now his one chance at love and redemption is dead. He sure as hell doesn’t want anyone else to have his power either though, so manipulating someone into killing him like Zoso did to him isn’t the solution. He just wants his dark magic gone.
And we know he’s not a fan of that sickly sweet fairy magic, and if he strips himself of the dark magic, he can’t have the fairies and their good magic still going strong, (or anyone else with dark powers, like Regina, swooping in to claim his throne as the most powerful being ever, that wouldn’t do AT ALL), therefore ALL magic will have to go.
So what’s a good way to rid the world of magic? Firstly, you’ve gotta remove everyone from the magical realm. Then, once everyone’s mortal, make the final curse fail and hey presto, no more magic.
And as the icing on the cake, if he manipulates dear old Regina into being the one to enact the curse, he can eventually crush her in the process, and won’t that be fun for his final trick ever. Set her up so she thinks she’s high and mighty, then her ultimate fall and his ultimate victory will be all the sweeter. He’ll be able to rub it in her face for the rest of her mere mortal life. *insert creepy Rumple giggle*
He’ll hafta be patient because this is a LONG con, it won’t pay off for about 30 years, but he’ll get what he wants in the end, so the wait will totally be worth it.
That’s the theory I’m currently subscribing to anyway. Might completely change my mind by the end of the season. 😉
March 20, 2012 at 9:36 pm #139330miaParticipantI absolutely like this theory! Ridding the world of all magic would totally be in consistency of Rumpel always saying that “all magic comes with a price”. Magic seems to cause more trouble than it solves (we can argue about Pinocchio, Cinderella, Red’s coat, but still …).
The arrow part certainly had a Cupid/Robin Hood character. Maybe we’ll see something about it, though I doubt it.
Hm, I really like this “destroy all magic”-goal. You got me believing (no pun intended).March 21, 2012 at 1:10 pm #139375obisgirlParticipant@weedith wrote:
Possibly something to do with breaking the dark curse? Possibly ridding the world of the dark magic?
I definitely think the bottled “true love” has something to do with breaking the curse but ridding the world of dark magic? 😯 That would definitely “take care” of the Evil Queen.
March 21, 2012 at 1:14 pm #139376PheeParticipantThanks, mia. 🙂 There’s every chance that that theory is completely off base, but half the fun of watching this show is the ever evolving speculation about what it all means and what’s gonna happen next. 😉
With the arrow, I didn’t even consider Robin Hood. Thought of Cupid because that arrow Snow fired caused love to happen, which is what Cupid used his bow & arrow for. If by chance that IS the case and they wanted to explain it, I’d only expect a quick scene like we got when Rumple stole the Fairy Godmother’s wand. Would make sense for him to want to track Cupid’s arrow down and steal it if his grand plan required the creation of love. That arrow would be a handy tool to have at his disposal.
March 21, 2012 at 1:19 pm #139378obisgirlParticipantI thought of ‘Cupid’s arrow’ too. 😀 especially when Rumps said that the arrow never misses its target. 😆
March 21, 2012 at 2:09 pm #139384killianhookfanParticipantHi Phee, and welcome to the group. I was in Australia for business several years ago (Sydney and one of the Rydes can’t remember which one), loved it and want to go back!
I completely agree with your theory. I don’t think Rumple likes his power at all really – I think he really sees it as a curse but in order to get rid of it, he needs to have an immense amount of power so he has to keep it. Does that make sense?? I think the thing that Rumple hates is the battle between good and evil within his own soul. In one of the episodes someone said that Rumple’s downfall is that he can’t stop making deals with people – I think that is part of his curse.
So he doesn’t want to be evil but he has this power and ability to do really strong magic so people come to him and he can’t help make deals. But he always warns them that magic always comes with a price and he gives them only what they want. So I think he does his best to try to use his magic/curse for good until he can find a way to destroy all magic. But then you have Regina who wants to use her magic for evil, so Rumple has to make sure he stays on top of his game so that she doesn’t get the upper hand. For someone who didn’t really know what he was getting himself into it’s really kind of a tragic situation. I do think that he is also hoping to find a way to get Bae back before he does away with the curses first, though. I do think it is interesting how they have managed to keep humanity in both characters through the use of objects. Here you have Rumple who is the most powerful man in the world – you figure he could have whatever he wants, yet his most prized possession is a chipped tea cup. And the EQs most prized possession is an apple tree that she has had since she was a child.

Thanks. 🙂 I’m in Brisbane, which is about half way down the east coast. Hope you get to come back again one fine day.

My heart breaks for him. All he wanted to do was save his son and didn’t realise the price he’d have to pay.
March 21, 2012 at 11:18 pm #139419SnickerdoodleParticipant@ Phee So appreciate your ideas and candor. Have you seen the release for the title of the finale? A land without Magic…
It will be interesting to see how your theory pans out.Liked the cupid’s bow idea, but also realized that Granny’s arrow when she shot Red as a wolf was a silver tipped arrow, so wondering if there is any tie-in there?
