To me, it appeared that certain events and actions by certain characters in FTL ran parallel to similar events or actions in SB. A neat way of connecting the storylines in both worlds. Which leads me to a theory…
For season two, I believe one of the major themes for the season will be the arrival of magic in SB, and the disappearing of magic in FTL. I’m not suggesting that the magic in FTL moved to SB, but that magic in FTL was, and had been, disappearing over time. We know of the season ending event that will lead to the arrival of magic in SB, but it seems that the producers/writers may have been hinting to the loss of magic in FTL. We were told that there were no more magic beans, and that the enchanted tree was the last remaining. I welcome additional examples to support this theory, as I believe it may be an important theme of season two, and beyond.
My really off-the-wall theory for the entire show is that all the “major events” of the show that we have seen during season one (Bae sent to another realm, Rumple’s goal of developing and finally creating the curse, Regina using the curse, Rumple’s need to return something lost – magic), and major season events yet to be seen in future seasons, have been loosely manipulated by the Blue Fairy with the ultimate goal of restoring the original magic of FTL.
One question may be, well why didn’t the BF just go to Lake Nostos and wish for the return of the land’s original magic? My thought is, she needed the most powerful magic (True Love) to complete this task, but was unable, or not permitted, to make it herself. It’s a very loose theory, but hey, we have only completed one season of the show, so we shall see in time if this theory is true.
I believe in the end, magic will be restored to FTL, from the magic that was brought to SB.

Maybe there was no more fairy dust; they didn’t seem to be mining any more since Rumple was imprisoned in the mine. Also, the dwarves seemed to be readily available.

Could this be symbolism for the ecology movement are we not loosing our rain forest by deforestation. Current theories for desserts are the results of deforestation in ancient times resulted in expansion of desserts. Could this be a warning for our generation on what will happen if we do not take better care of our planet? We too will suffer the loss of magic due to the careless cutting down of trees.

I should never post at 2am… I tend to pontificate.

I thought the dwarfs quit mining of their own volition when Grumpy went off the help SNOW WHITE, the others followed.

The transcript for the Price of Gold states that they converted the mines to hold Rumpelstiltskin and that a lot of dwarf blood had gone into making his cell. I don’t understand why the mine would hold him unless it was enchanted somehow or the unmined diamonds they used to make fairy dust somehow have a magical property that could keep him from using his magic. Although the EQ visited him in the form of a mouse and morphed into Regina right there. So, how the mines rendered Rumple powerless I am not sure. I always thought it more likely that it was where he wanted to be when the curse was enacted… that somehow it would not affect him the same or something.
Somehow I seem to remember the mines having been abandoned, but I cannot find such a comment in the transcripts. Only this one about the mines being converted to hold Rumple, which perhaps alludes to them being abandoned because the dwarves were helping Snow. But I thought I heard in one of the epiosdes that they were no longer producing fairy dust. Anyone else?

Luv it, luv this theory. Makes a lot of sense too.

A tiny bit of evidence for the idea that fairy dust blocks Dark One power: Rumple tells Bae, “Fairy magic doesn’t mix well with what I am”– maybe it’s the Dark One Kyptonite.

I just sense that, although Rumple has has long-term agenda of finding his son, that there must be someone (the Blue Fairy) that has even a bigger, longer-term agenda. It just makes for a more interesting story, and its an agenda that benefits all.
Question, in The Shepard, was it mentioned by King Midas, or a knight, that the dragon they needed to slay was the last of its kind, or was it just a dragon that was terrorizing King Midas’ kingdom?
June 16, 2012 at 4:24 am #148764hjbauParticipantI think they said it was the last dragon. And we know that there was another dragon alive at the time of the curse because it flew at the camera in The Pilot trying to outrun the curse. That could have been Maleficent though i would imagine it is another dragon, but either way.

Yes, I can’t believed I missed this topic until now because after the back to back episodes of The Stranger and The Return, I was wondering if FLT was in fact a dying place because Bae happened to get the last magic bean and the Charming clan was suppose to use a wardrobe made from the last type of magic tree.
I thought that in “Dreamy”, the other fairy told Nova to be careful with the fairy dust because that was all that they had for the year, which I thought was weird, because I would think it would just be something that never ran out it, it was just always there because of the magic of FTL. Maybe we’ll find out more when we find out about the diamond that Grumpy stole and got imprisoned for since I’m still confused about the backstory on all of that.
Also, I love the idea that one of the parallels that the show will do to FLT land besides rebellion in both worlds will be showing how one world was losing its magic while this new world is gaining its magic.
Plus, it does set up the Blue Fairy to eventually be an obstacle later on down the road because they might have to do more than have every season be Regina and Rumple be the Big Bads. While I don’t think she’s “evil” like a Regina character at least right now who acts without thinking most of the time in her own interest, I do wonder at times if she has her own agenda like Rumple’s where her intentions are technically “good,” but how she achieved her end goal was not. I’ve been thinking about all the information that she’s withheld either by accident and wonder that if she does have some kind of master plan, I wonder if Baelfire might be connected with revealing that especially if he finds out that all his dad needed was true love’s kiss to be cured because he might be pretty pissed off and start wondering about the BF’s true motives once he finds that out.
