You’re right MatthewPaul – it would still be retconning what was implied if she was actually dead when Alice read the book to her daughter. Still wouldn’t like it, but I could live with the “something terrible” that happened to Anna just being a separation, and that by the time Alice reads the book they’re back together ruling Wonderland (I’m trying to apply the same logic to “something terrible” that Gold applied to “tragic” in the Kathryn incident lol)

Why this constant “sniffing around Belle” nonsense. You make her sound like she is just an object and has no free will. If Belle and Will are spending time together, it’s because they WANT TO. She wasn’t fighting off that kiss. She wasn’t kicking him out of the shop. She wasn’t rejecting his coffee. She looked very happy with him in that brief moment we saw. She isn’t the victim of unwanted attention. This is a mutual thing, however much we may dislike it for whatever reason.

I mean, if Alice and Cyrus and their daughter are happy, then I don’t imagine she would need to return to Wonderland. I always felt that maybe that was her own head canon for how the story ended. Alice wrote her own fanfic basically.
Still bad writing because it’s implied that they visit each other in the future and remain friends.

Then later in the same scene:
Alice: So… this is goodbye, then.
Ana: How about “see you soon”?
Will: [says softly to Cyrus] I’ll see you later.
Alice: Will, wait. [Alice runs and hugs Will] I just want to thank you for everything. Hold on to your heart this time, all right?
Will: You hold on to yours.
Leading to viewers to believe, with the following scene of the White King and Queen ruling Wonderland that married and had their happily ever after. It doesn’t imply Alice never seeing her friends ever again.
It all boils down to bad storytelling, imo. Mystery is all well and good but when omissions and misdirections come off as lying to the audience then it goes back to the writing. I’ve made this comparison on the past, but as a teacher, if all my students fail it’s not the fault of the students. It’s my fault as an educator for not reaching my students.

Or Ana is still alive and Will just doesn’t know it?
This is what I’m hoping is the case. Will never stopped loving Ana, even during his heartbreak after she wronged him in WL. Sure, he had a couple of flings on the side to try and get over Ana, but that was when he’d removed his heart to stop feeling the heartache. Yet, despite everything, he always loved his Ana, and he forgave her when she proved her remorse for wronging him. I cannot ever imagine Will entering into another romance with any one else while knowing his Ana was still alive. If Ana has had a relapse as the Red Queen I’ll be very, very upset, seeing how she had already been redeemed as the White Queen of WL. And for obvious reasons, I don’t want Ana to be dead. I want Will just to think that she’s dead, and then for her to turn out to be alive in S5. (Though even that seems very repetitious after what Ana went through in W, but it beats the alternative).

We know they didn’t have room in their regular cast budget for her, because they couldn’t even make Robin a regular as a result of making Will one. Their recurring cast budget had to go towards the Frozen characters for 4A and the Queens of Darkness for 4B. They wanted Will on the show, so what do they do? They write around Anastasia’s lack of availability by creating a scenario where her and Will are currently separated. Therefore, they have opted to further explore his ties with Robin Hood (since he’s already there anyway), and to have him acquaint with other regular characters on the show (Belle). I’ll be impressed if they can even get Emma Rigby back for a flashback to explain the separation.
I cannot ever imagine Will entering into another romance with any one else while knowing his Ana was still alive. This this this. You do not give the speech that Will gave in the series finale and give up just because Ana made another mistake of something. And I actually find it hard to believe that Ana WOULD make another mistake. She spent so much time and effort trying to get Will back–and was even willing to let him go for good since she knew she had hurt him. And if they take that away…RAWR!!!! RG SMASH!!!!

Oh, I agree, but I was simply stating the likely facts. For whatever reason, they wanted Will on the show, but had to write around why he would no longer be back in Wonderland with Ana. I’m just trying to figure out what their main endgame plan for Will on this show, which is frustrating. Was it all for Scarlet Beauty? Was it all to merely be Robin’s sidekick? Or perhaps it was simply thinking “Hey, he’s the most popular character on our failed spinoff. Wouldn’t it be fun to randomly insert him on the main show?”
