I have seen so much discontent about the second season throughout the OuaT fandom. Many people are even claiming it is unlikely the show will be renewed after next season. I seriously doubt that- I predict it will run at least as long as Lost did, flaws and all. The ratings may have dropped compared to last season, but it’s still one of ABC’s highest ranking shows.

Let’s talk about what season two did right! Here’s what I liked (although I know you won’t all agree):

I love that the curse was broken and everyone knew who he or she was! Another season of “when will Emma believe?” would have been maddening.

Charmings, Emma, and Henry coming together as a family for the first time

Redemption arcs for both Regina and Rumple- I like seeing their good sides come out

Nealfire- I’ve suspected Bae being Henry’s father since last season and loved the reveal.

    Wonderful RumBelle moments

Dark Snow- I thought it was really interesting to watch Snow go against her nature

    Neverland!

Really clever connections and mash ups- Rumple playing the role of the crocodile, being able to communicate through dreams after the sleeping curse, Belle working with Mulan and ending up saving Prince Phillip, Bae living with the Darlings, a plotting session with the Evil Queen, the Queen of Hearts, and Captain Hook in a room together

Cora- seeing more of her backstory, seeing a villain even more vicious than the others we’ve known

Charming agreeing to help Rumple with Belle

I loved season 2. There were flaws, yes, but overall my obsession with this show grew beyond what is considered “normal.”

Manhattan was one of the finest episodes of the entire series; for me it ranks right up there with Skin Deep and A Land Without Magic.

We got answers! LOST loved to toy with viewers but we got solid answers this season.

Cora was a fantastic villain. I really loved to hate her.

Rumple’s arc was so great. Awards for RC. ALL OF THEM. The library scene in The Crocodile is one of my very favorites from this season.

Emma’s arc this season: from not wanting to acknowledge that Snow and Charming were her parents and still thinking she didn’t need anyone, to calling them mom and dad. Wow. Phenomenal.

Regina may have yo-yo’ed this season but her “Let me die as Regina” moment in the mines was one of her highlights all season.

    NEVERLAND. Ok? NEVERLAND.

Finally someone who actually thought season 2 was good. Yes it wasn’t perfect but it was very intriguing and it could’ve been a lot worse. I feel that OUAT will go for quite a while yet and I for 1 can’t wait to see how it all pans out.
