“On the heels of British beauty Emma Rigby (the UK’s Hollyoaks, inset) being cast as the Red Queen in the four-scene “presentation” [see glossary], TVLine has learned that Barbara Hershey‘s Cora might also serve as a royal pain – if ABC picks up the limited series to bridge Once’s winter 2013-14 hiatus. (Official talks with Hershey likely won’t take place unless the pilot moves forward.)”
Is it me or the bolded sentence suggests they’re planning to postpone new episodes of Once season 3 after the winter finale until March and use this big hiatus to show the proposed ‘Once Upon a Time in Wonderland’ should it get approved?
[adrotate group="5"]April 4, 2013 at 4:55 pm #184433RumplesGirlKeymasterHonestly, I wouldn’t even speculate at this point. Personally, I think making us wait for OUaT (original) from Dec-March is a HORRIBLE idea because with a show with such an extensive mythology they really can’t keep it away from casual viewers for more than 4 weeks and expect the numbers to be good. But I also know that there are lots of complaints about hiatus breaks for this season (which I believe was the same schedule as S1).
At this point I think we just have to see what happens.

I know hiatuses frustrate fans, but if they can tie these two series’ together, this might not be a bad idea. It’s a good way to keep fan interest active and tuned in, while they have the freedom to iron out the details they need for their other project to flow freely. Then there’s the curiosity aspect about the new series. That’s a good opportunity for them to really make a big deal of Wonderland as they bring it in.
That might actually work to their favor.

Hiatuses is a chance for the writers and the cast to get a break or in some cases for short ones to catch up in filming. if Wonderland is even half as good as Once it will give the Once cast a good break, stop these short 1 month hiatuses 2 to 3 times a year, and most important give us the thing we want most, more Once, and in Wonderland.
also quick question is the new series just Wonderland, or Once Upon a Time in Wonderland because ive seen both.
but I think depending on ratings/Wonderland ratings that it will work in their favorKeeper of Swanfire's dream catcher, the Blue Fairy Plot Device, the contact name "Her", the lanyards, the trigger, the Netherworld room and necklace, Charming's quote on Thanksgiving, and PP's pic of Henry
April 5, 2013 at 12:42 am #184509MatthewPaulModeratorIf this means just one longer winter hiatus and no further ones for Season 3, I am totally ok with this. People have suggested that ABC give Once a split Season treatment. With the Winter Olympics in February, this might be another reason. If Wonderland will air on Sundays too is the question, though.
April 5, 2013 at 12:46 am #184510RumplesGirlKeymasterThe Olympics! Totally forgot about them. Then yeah, they need to take a hiatus during that time cause nobody but the Olympics will win that ratings battle.
Airing it on Sunday is a risk. I suppose they could do it at 9 right after OUaT and move Revenge to 10 but they haven’t had a whole lot of luck with shows on Sundays at 10 (666 Park Ave, Red Widow)."He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"April 5, 2013 at 1:05 am #184513MysteryKat25ParticipantAs much as I hate the idea of having to wait longer, at least we’ll a) have something to watch still (I’m going off the assumption that most of us will at least check it out and will most likely like the show) and b) less breaks later on so the majority of the season should be back to back!
As much as it’s nice to have the show back in Jan it always has award shows etc and now the Olympics to contend with so I’ll be happy if they extend the break to just running everything back to back later on, ESPECIALLY if we have something else in a similar universe to be following.
I think it’s been re-titled to Once Upon A Time In Wonderland but I’m hoping it’s in a similar vein to the main show so that we have that void filled while we wait for Once to come back. *fingers crossed*
It wouldn’t surprise me if it airs in the Once timeslot while Once is on hiatus for the winter but we’ll see. The way I’ve understood the show is each season would be a mini-arc so that could be really good if done well. Something nice and concise to keep our attention while we wait. 🙂
Also it will give them a better idea halfway through the season as to what is working with the fans and what isn’t. Not to mention more time for editing, special effects, etc which can only help the main show.
This is the perfect year to do this with as a test given the Olympics (and the pushed back Oscars) and I love the idea of essentially having a much longer season. We’d essentially have little to no breaks in winter (I’m assuming that an episode wouldn’t air actually on / near Christmas), and we’d hopefully get back to back eps Sept – May of Once, then Once in Wonderland, then Once…so summer would be the only dry spot! May – Sept is long but it’s the same as always and at least we’d have more material to go off of.
I know Once fills my HP void (as well as Lost etc) so perhaps OUAT In Wonderland will fill the Once void over the holidays. I’m going to be optimistic for now. New material in OUAT worlds is a good thing!

The conciseness is what gets me excited. Network tv often results in stories that are ended too abruptly or that drag on way too long (or even both sometimes) because renewals & cancellations can be a bit of a surprise to showrunners.

April 5, 2013 at 9:38 am #184543nonnieParticipantI personally am not looking forward to WONDERLAND … Have it as a summer replacement but DO NOT mess with OUaT
April 5, 2013 at 7:14 pm #184611MysteryKat25ParticipantOUAT scheduling is already messed with because of awards season and sporting events (especially the Olympics coming up) so at least for season 3 I think it would actually work.
Usually I’d agree and say summer cause it’s a longer break but I’d rather have the long break IF we don’t have any real breaks during the actual season except for the winter hiatus and if that’s got something like Wonderland to keep us busy then all the better.
I’m just sick of the 2 weeks on 3 weeks off nonsense we’ve been getting to stretch the season from Sept – May so if we can get back to back to back episodes in 2 chunks + something to keep us going in between especially in a year when the Olympics are on and the Oscars have been pushed back to March (which takes a week away from us since they air on ABC…) then I’m all for it. Try it out this year, see if it works building the momentum with no breaks once it comes back and see how it goes.
Summer break will still be rotten but at least we’d likely have 22 episodes of OUAT + 13 or whatever the mini-arc one of Wonderland is to work with and tide us over.
If we love both it’ll be like getting a season and a half from Sept-May (though not with all of the OUAT characters we love). I know we’ll all be itching to get back to OUAT but it’s better than random reruns and constant breaks and people getting frustrated with never knowing when it’s on and just not watching live. We need to keep the ratings up and back to back would help with that bigtime.
