Now that our “Trio of Villains” is officially confirmed for S4B, I was thinking about all the other characters ONCE might incorporate into the season when doing “backstory.”
Ursula
Obviously, we already have Ariel and Eric from S3 but we might see Triton who is often Ursula’s brother (and I think sometimes lover).
Maleficent
We have Aurora and Philip, but we know from 201 that Mal first went after Aurora’s own mother. So we need Aurora’s mother, father, and potentially Mal’s raven (especially given the popularity of Dival from the recent Disney live-action adaptation)
Cruella
Pongo we have, but we need a Perdita.
We need a Roger and Anita and the rest of the dogs. Plus, perhaps, Cruella’s henchman.
Given that ONCE likes to take already existing characters and mess them up by adding different myths to them, do you think any of these characters that we might “need” we’ve already met? Could Rumple, for example, actually be Triton? Or could Hook stand in for Mal’s raven given that he somehow knew her in the past.
Thoughts? Other characters I might have missed?

We need to see Belle more, whoever else we add.
But this is a great excuse to bring back Ariel, Phillip, Aurora, and more Pongo. And maybe Mulan.

I hope they go with brother rather than lover, as Ursula seemed dang near crazy in the ONE book/comic where she has like a giant crush on Triton. The brother thing was deleted from the movie but kept in the broadway show. The only thing is it would mean Ariel is…a mermaid goddess too… hmm… Well that would explain why Ursula threatened Regina even though no one had seen her for thousadans of years. Regine screwed with her neice.
Could Rumple, for example, actually be Triton?
NOOOO!!!!! PLEASE NO!!!!! Rumpel does have a trident in his shop though >.< I hope this isn’t so.

I don’t think they’ve ever acknowledged a sequel character, have they? I doubt they’ll start with an incredibly contrived (“URSULA’S CRAZY SISTER!” I rest my case) villain from one of the worst of the DTV bunch. Maybe I just have a really strong bias against TLM2 because the first one is one of my favorites of all time, but I sincerely hope there’s no sea-witch Morgana. Especially since the Black Fairy will be coming to town with that name down the line somewhere and that’s unnecessarily confusing.
I could see Horace and Jasper bumbling around Storybrooke, though. I think I’d get a kick out of that.
I *really* hope Ursula means we get more Ariel, but with her story having been wrapped in a pretty little happily-ever-after bow in S3 and the fact that Ariel’s “Ursula” was really Regina, I’m worried we won’t. I hope I’m wrong, I really really do.

Well, technically in OUATWL, Anastasia (sister to Cinderella and Red Queen) getting married to a poor person (Will Scarlet) despite the wishes of Lady Tremaine came from Cinderella 2. So that may count.
Especially since the Black Fairy will be coming to town with that name down the line somewhere and that’s unnecessarily confusing.
That’s assuming Black Fairy is Morgana.

Fair enough, I WAS thinking about that when I was typing my reply, but a plot point like “rich girl falls in love with poor boy” is such a widespread, universal one that I wasn’t really sure how much credit Cinderella 2 can get for that since Will isn’t a baker and there aren’t any other similarities that I’m aware of.

Of course it is. Doesn’t everyone around here assume their favorite pet theories are true? I honestly kinda feel like the trio of villainesses almost makes it even more likely – Maleficent’s really the only other major candidate, and I’d expect the Black Fairy with her be-all-end-all deus ex machina wand to be her own thing, not need two other antagonists with her.

Wonderland also had Silvermist from the Tinker Bell direct to video movies. Not a sequel, but still a direct to video character no less.
