In regards to not having any villains for Season 6 (if the Kings of Darkness are used for 5B), there is an easy way for them to fix that.

IF 5B is the Underworld, all of the past villians will be there. The 5B cliffhanger could be them all escaping and coming back. And then Season 6 can be the final battle that Rumple predicted in the pilot.

That would actually be kind of awesome, though no doubt this show would find some way to screw it up.

This would…actually be very interesting. Adam and Eddy were very cryptic in the Hot Seat when asked if Cora would ever be seen, “Can’t say for now”, usually means yes or not yet.

Here’s both TVBTN and TVGR’s current predictions for this week:

    http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2015/10/20/abc-renewcancel-standings-week-4-greys-anatomy/479229/

Both still have OUAT as “likely to be renewed”, but that was expected. Believe it or not, this Season will already be a quarter done after this Sunday’s episode.

Starting to think that the real test will be how we perform in the second half.

I would also take a look at how their remaining new and returning dramas do. As you said, ABC won’t want to cancel too many dramas. OUAT’s advantage as of now is how badly Castle, Blood & Oil and Nashville are doing by comparison.

    New Dramas:
    Wicked City (Premieres October 27th)
The Catch (Mid-Season. It’s another Shondaland show, so it could be another hit)
The Family (Mid-Season. Supposed to be a part of the Sunday lineup. Probably Blood & Oil’s replacement)
Of Kings & Prophets (Supposedly Mid-Season. Was originally set to air on Sundays this Fall, but has been pushed back)

    Returning Dramas:
Secrets and Lies (Mid-Season. Probably won’t do spectacularly, based on how Season 1 did.)
Agent Carter (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D’s Mid-Season bridge in the Winter)
American Crime (Mid-Season. Based on last Season’s lackluster ratings, I don’t expect Season 2 to do spectacular. Still a little puzzling that it managed to get renewed)

My predictions. Wildly speculative, but let’s have some fun

    Wicked City (Premieres October 27th)

Fail. Heavily promoted but it looks…horrible.

The Catch (Mid-Season. It’s another Shondaland show, so it could be another hit

Hit. Or at least good enough for ABC to hang on to it

The Family (Mid-Season. Supposed to be a part of the Sunday lineup. Probably Blood & Oil’s replacement)

Up against GoT? Ain’t gonna last

Of Kings & Prophets (Supposedly Mid-Season. Was originally set to air on Sundays this Fall, but has been pushed back)

Dunno. But I wanna watch it….

American Crime (Mid-Season. Based on last Season’s lackluster ratings, I don’t expect Season 2 to do spectacular. Still a little puzzling that it managed to get renewed

Yeah but it did pick up a ton of Emmy nods (and one win?)

I agree that Wicked City will probably bomb. It also airs in ABC’s 10pm Tuesday deathslot right after AoS. AoS’ first three weeks were a 1.7, 1.6 and a 1.4 (granted that was the night of the debate). I don’t expect Wicked City to gain from AoS’ ratings. AoS itself is guaranteed a 4th Season renewal from the syndication Gods, while Wicked City is a newcomer.

I don’t know if I would completely rule out The Family. Both Resurrection and Secrets and Lies aired in that same timeslot during the same time of year, and both did well enough to get a 2nd Season. Granted, Resurrection did eventually get canceled after its 2nd Season. I don’t have the biggest expectations for it, but I’m leaving it at a tossup for now.

Regarding Of Kings & Prophets, I recall the main reason ABC pushed it back was because they wanted to retool it. Perhaps they do see a lot of potential in the show, but want to make sure its done right.

Blood & Oil has been cut down to 10 episodes. Even more certain it’s getting cancelled now:

Lot of weird rumors out there about #OnceUponATime — let me clarify: no one has any plans to end the show anytime soon. Thnx for watching!

So I’m thinking ABC are coming down to their cancellation decisions, and have given an okay to Adam and Eddy for a Season 6. Obviously they don’t want to cancel too many dramas.
