Don’t be surprised if we see our demo go down a little for tonight’s OUAT, since they’ll be factoring both 508 and 509 together as one rating. I’m predicting a 1.5, or a 1.4 at the very least.
Same. Plus…TWD.
JUST wondering … do they consider DVD sales in the determination of keeping a show on lines… I am thinking all the ONCERS by the BLUE RAY & DVDs. Those that can not watch via streaming or on line probably add the dvds to their collection. . .
It’s not a major factor, no. And not all Oncers buy the DVDs. I don’t, for example. The biggest factor is live viewers because that’s where the money is. DVD sales *help* but not all 5 million people are spending $40 to buy the DVDs and even then the ad buyers don’t care because their commercials aren’t shown on DVDs
For the record, the current Blu-Ray/DVD sales aren’t spectacular, as someone who keeps track of that:

Ah, thanks. That’s nice to have. Yeah, those aren’t going to set the world ablaze, but it’s not surprising. Actually…how are TV-DVD sales in general? With Netflix having (close to) effectively taken over the world, I’d imagine TV-DVD sales are down all over, except (maybe) for HBO shows and other cable shows that Netflix/Hulu don’t/can’t pick up: Game of Thrones for instance (but, lol, that is still the most pirated show out there so…who knows)

There’s definitely been a decline in home video sales over the years, but it’s still a profitable enough business to continue. There are still plenty of people who prefer owning movies and TV shows on physical media, myself included. Take a look at the combined DVD/BD sales for October 18th to get an idea:

I thought that we were going to drop to a 1.4 / 1.5 going up against The Walking Dead. Once again, it goes to show how loyal our remaining viewers are.

I would say 508’s reception was more so split, while the reception for 509 was overwhelmingly negative. I expect that most people will stick around til the end of 5A at the very least. Every mid-Season finale has seen a drop, so it’ll be interesting to see if that remains a trend for when 511 airs. Even then, I doubt the drop would be significant. I still think 5B will be the true test.

We’re getting the dark one mythology done in 5A which is one of the “big” storylines that was left to be done. In 5B we’re getting Hades so they are literally going up against a god, you’ve got past big bads and villains returning. It all has a “final battle” vibe to it
I don’t know where Once could go that would up the stakes fro what we’re getting in season 5.

People said the same thing about Season 4, because many felt like the author of the book and Heroes vs. Villains were end of series type deals. However, Season 5 still happened despite all of that. I recall Adam and Eddy mentioning that they don’t have current plans to end the show anytime soon either, so Season 5 being the final Season or not totally depends on ratings and contract renewals.
November 16, 2015 at 7:01 pm #312696RumplesGirlKeymasterThe fact that we stayed steady on a two hour up against the juggernaut that is TWD is impressive. It shows ABC one thing–the fans that are left are loyal and will likely stay so until A and E say “the end!”
