It will be interesting how the new changes affect our favorite shows. I’ve read that some will definitely increase in ratings and some will decrease. The key is by how much. Not only in reaction to Once, but other shows we all watch. I know I have at least one show that is certain to be canceled that I’m praying for a “Hail Mary” play to be called.

I thought this might be interesting for some of you. Vulture is doing a weeklong feature called “The Ratings Game”. The articles deal work how producers, writers, showrunners handle with Nielson ratings. One of them includes a producer’s experience of being a Nielson family himself. Fascinating stuff.

Due to President Obama’s address delaying tomorrow night’s OUAT by 15 minutes, don’t be surprised if the fast ratings on Monday look really off. They might appear higher than normal, but the final ratings will adjust with Obama’s speech taken out of the equation.

Just a heads up, but usually Marc Berman of TVMediaInsights gives us the Household ratings (HH) and his analysis early in the morning while we wait for demos, but there’s a note at SpoilerTV that:

It seems that TVMediaInsights in closing down and as a result we get no early ratings analysis or HH. Marc will resume in the new year with a new site.

So no early analysis or HH for episode 5×11 “Swan Song.”

The live eyeballs and demos will be posted a bit later. Remember that it’s probably going to be fairly off just because of President Obama’s speech from 8-8:15pm

Numbers are in for episode 5×11 “Swan Song”

    Live Eyeballs  4.83 million

    Demo: 1.4

Slight uptick from last week’s series low. We’ll have to see how it goes tomorrow after the President’s Address is taken into account, if at all.

Here’s a bit more context for the ratings and an attempt to see where we might end up

    8:00 p.m.

    ABC – Presidential Address
    Viewers: 5.29 million (#4), A18-49: 1.4/ 4 (#3t)

    8:30 p.m.

ABC – Once Upon a Time
    Viewers: 4.37 million (#4), A18-49: 1.3/ 4 (#3)

    9:00 p.m.

ABC – Once Upon a Time
    Viewers: 3.92 million (#3), A18-49: 1.1/ 3 (#2)

So we went from a 1.4 at the top of the hour (President Obama) to a 1.3 by the time she show was officially on the air and then by the time the show was wrapping up, it’s a 1.1

If anything, we’re probably going to even out to about a 1.2 maybe 1.3

That drop could suggest that people didn’t like what they were seeing and were actively turning the show off.

Can’t blame it on TWD this time around. It ended its run last week.
