KeymasterDo you think that abc can still afford keeping the show with those ratings?
Dunno. I’ll be very interested in the ad buy ratings for the new season. It’s odd, this TV business thing. The ad buy rate actually went up in between S4 and S5 even though the ratings dropped from 401 to 422.
While I do think we’re going to go fractional tomorrow night, I’m expecting a bit of a rebound the following week and then for it to stay steady for at least a few episodes (2 maybe?) which puts the next drop around 5×18, then we might be fractional with more frequency. I do think you’re right that it’s not just Easter and other factors but that people really are losing interest overall. That’s what happens to all TV shows though. Even something like Grey’s Anatomy ain’t what it used to be.
ABC’s decision about S6–how many episodes, if it’s the final season–might come down to how many fractional episodes we have in 5B

ParticipantWell, it has happened. The first bit of ratings news is out for The Brothers Jones and we have gone fractional.
We got a 2.2/2.1 in HH and a 0.9 in the Top 25.

ParticipantWait! I take that back – we just dodged going fractional by the skin of out teeth. 18-49 are out and we’re on a 1.0.

ModeratorFor Easter Sunday, I was expecting a far worse drop. Likely we’ll at least go back up to a 1.1 next week, and I do think we’ll remain fairly steady for the remainder of the Season with minor fluctuations. When ratings are as down as they are for a veteran shows, the noticeable large drops tend to stop, because we’ve reached a floor. The lower the ratings are, the more dedicated viewers that remain. For example, look at Castle’s ratings for this Season. It started at a 1.2 at the beginning of the Season, went as far down as a 0.8, but went back up to doing 1.1’s regularly. I guess this upcoming Sunday will be a good indication of how the rest of the Season could go.

KeymasterMatt and I are more or less on the same page for how the season plays out, except he tends to be a bit more optimistic. I’m not wholly convinced we won’t see a fractional before 523.

ModeratorAn important note about 515’s ratings from ABC directly:
Please Note: On Easter Sunday, overall Adult 18-49 TV usage was down a significant -7% week to week during primetime(29.7 vs. 31.8). ABC’s Sunday programming on the holiday will be coded as “specials” with Nielsen and excluded from the season averages.
I recall this was done for 318 a few years ago, too. Yeah there are cases of #FanExcuseBingo, but Easter Sunday is a valid exception.

KeymasterThe HH numbers are in for 5×16 “Our Decay;” the demo numbers will be out in another hour or two.
It looks like the HH numbers did rise from last week’s Easter viewing (as expected) so it’s possible that our all important demo numbers will either stay steady or even slightly tick up.
HH analysis from Marc Berman: Elsewhere, ABC could not compete with its Sunday combination of veteran “America’s Funniest Home Videos” (#3: 2.9/ 5), “Once Upon a Time” (#3: 2.5/ 4)

KeymasterRatings are in for episode 5×16 “Our Decay”
Total Eyeballs: 3.78 million
Demo: 1.1
That is a .1 increase over last week, as expected given that last week was Easter and numbers were down across the board.
