Well as someone who did stop watching the show -at least live that is I might catch it all at once on Netflix I do still listen to the podcast though- it started with season 4 where watching Once became this chore it was kind of exhausting to watch especially with the repetivness in the storytelling – and maybe that’s what it is OUAT is a genre of TV that doesn’t age well unless you take major risks there just not enough story there it’s not your Law and Order NCIS Grey’s Anatomy type of show that can go on seasons upon seasons and still deliver or maybe it’s the mouse shaped phone that’s in the writers room that causes them to revert to overused tropes and super predictable twists (remember when WR predicted the Wicked Sisters plot line before the actual season aired) but Once just isn’t shiny and new any more and maybe it’s that lack of risky TV that turned off a lot of viewers I know it did me

Oh, and I think they’re going to start the “final season” marketing in the spring, hyping up the 100th episode and having it end on a solid 12 episodes.

    Yes, this.

Yep. I’m agreeing with everyone. This is it. Final season. It makes me upset to say but it’s time to face facts. The show is too expensive to make with these sort of ratings. By the end of the season we’ll most likely be down to the 1.0 – 1.4’s and if by some miracle there is a Season 6, we’ll be dipping into the Wonderland ratings. I think our only hope now is that Netflix will save us and give us another season after this one.

But would you really want one? I mean…this is the perfect way to go out. The Darkness is done; the Savior fulfilled her ultimate destiny; her monomyth is complete. She gets to live happily ever after, her family reunited and restored. There’s…nothing left to tell except to keep inserting new Disney characters for “reasons”

The highest we ever gave OUAT is Seven Seasons, and the most minimal was Five. At this rate…it does seem like ABC may have hinted to Adam and Eddy to start the wrapping up process. Though I wonder if it all depends on whether or not they have anything to replace Once? Will they continue bouncing a ball(that’s going out of air) till they can afford to buy a new one?

My opinion is this: ABC put OUAT on notice. The execs told A and E that if they didn’t bring in some numbers for S5, then this would be their last. They wanted a little bit of a jump in the premiere and a small decline, landing only slightly below where they ended in S4 (1.8). But that didn’t happen. So I suspect that A and E had a meeting/have a meeting soon in which ABC makes it official: S5 is the end. The marketing team will start pushing “this is the end!” material right before the 100th

Final Live+SD ratings are in for episode 501 “The Dark Swan”

We rose in overall viewers slightly, to a 5.93 million but kept our 1.8 in the demo.

SpoilerTV has a really great cancellation predictor table they use: LINK

The closer a show gets to a 3.0 (on the table) the more likely it is to be cancelled. Right now, OUAT is sitting in the green, meaning it’s “safe” BUT if you look at the number it’s being given 2.82, we are very close to the dreaded 3.0/cancellation prediction. This is going to be something to keep an eye on moving forward into S5

I find it ironic that the story is currently centered on “The Dark Swan” and we’re all singing our swan songs. It’s well-suited, especially since the ratings are declining (never thought I’d see the day we go under 6 million), but ironic and sad.

I may be in the minority, but I don’t find it that sad. I’ve long thought that OUAT should’ve been max 3 seasons long. It was evident even by S2 that the showrunners weren’t clear which direction to take the show in after the first dark curse was broken. They just wound up re-hashing the dark curse and memory-forgetting spells.
