I can see it. People think he looks like Colin, and some also thought that Gal looked like Colin. Difference is, Gal has shorter hair.
If they’re giving Excalibur its own promo pic with a tagline like, “Mightiest of all Swords”, it will surely be related to the Dagger. Like, Merlin lopped Excalibur’s end off to make the Dagger from the special metal.
Then he was all, “Bugger, they’ll be able to tell I’ve messed around with it and it’s shorter now. I know, I’ll shove it in this rock and it can stay there for a couple centuries until there’s no one left alive who knows what it’s meant to look like, so no one will know the difference when it pops up again.” Or something.

Rumple was also quite knowledgeable about Merlin and Excalibur. He specifically tells Snow that he wouldn’t be able to destroy the real Excalibur, when he was presented with the fake. I can’t recall if it’s been said if the dagger itself is indestructible or not, but if it is, that’s another possible connection.
Now that we know that Mulan is appearing this Season, her own sword was powerful enough to deflect magic. Could there be a connection with Mulan’s sword, too? For the record, her sword looks different than Excalibur does in that promotional poster, so doubtful that the two swords are one in the same. Still, Mulan’s sword could have ties with Camelot:

That sword looks like a big version of the Dark One Dagger 😛 just thought i’d throw that out there. Its actually not even her Sword but the one of the bad guy’s but still.
