They both sound like crap.
[adrotate group="5"]January 20, 2017 at 8:12 am #332700RumplesGirlKeymasterMy point was the ABC might test the waters with one of these shows as OUAT’s replacement, especially the supernatural one. OUAT did extremely well for a niche mythology based show on Sunday night’s; ABC needs/wants to be able to replicate that. I’ll be interested to see 1) where these shows end up on the weekly schedule and 2) how their rating do.
ETA: and the same can be said for Hyperion, should it get picked up to pilot. It feels like OUAT’s natural successor.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"January 23, 2017 at 11:45 am #332753RumplesGirlKeymasterFor those of us really interested in ratings across the whole ABC board: a reminder that Quantico–a show @MatthewPaul and I both have pegged as cancelled–begins tonight on its new night. The ratings should prove interesting; it’s an attempt to save it, but it’s going into a spot that isn’t going to really help it any if past precedent means anything. The Winter Finale got a .7 in the demo.

Yeah, Quantico is a serialized drama that has gradually declined in viewership. I don’t expect a miraculously improvement just because it has the Bachelor as its lead-in. ABC does seem to really love the show and it’s clear that this is a desperation move to try to save it. Maybe this move would have worked had they done so this past Fall, but I’d say it’s too little too late.

Well….
.8 in the demo and 2.90 live eyeballs.
It’s not…horrible? It’s actually up slightly from it’s winter finale. But the half hours give a scarier look. 1.025 in the first half/ .693 in the second. That’s a pretty steep drop off. Next week might give us a better look.
In other news, TV Grim Reaper is now saying AoS is likely cancelled. We’ve been going back and forth all season about AoS.

ABC was probably hoping for a lot better, though. They wanted Quantico to be the next Scandal so badly, but it just doesn’t look like it’s in the cards. It was initially a 0.9, which I guess was the result of remaining Bachelor viewers briefly tuning in. Clearly most of them chose to bail. The half hour ratings make me think even less will watch in the coming weeks. I think if they had moved Quantico to this timeslot a year ago or even last Fall, this tactic may have worked out. But it’s too little too late, as the show’s lost too many viewers and they’re not miraculously returning just because it’s airing behind the Bachelor. Plus, how would a serialized show in the middle of its 2nd Season suddenly attract enough new viewers? Then again, the show may have continued to decline in ratings either way simply due to viewers dropping interest in it.
Yeah, I think AoS is done. If it had remained in the 0.8 range, I think it could have potentially gotten one more Season, but it dropped to a 0.6 last week. Then again, last week could have been a fluke, but not a good sign.

In Grey’s the show’s first focus is about the characters learning and becoming doctors. In Scandal the focus is very much the politics and the white hats fixing whatever problem they have been hired on to fix. Sure, both of those shows focus on the relationships as well, the characters sleep around and it is a soap opera like that, but that isn’t the entire focus of the show. It isn’t even the biggest focus of those shows, in my opinion.
Quantico focused way too much on the soap opera part instead of letting us like the characters first and then showing all their relationships. Also, the flash back, flash forwards, i don’t even remember which one was the present day, but that did not work. They would show more in the flashback and nothing would happen in the flashforward/present day. I don’t remember anything happening that was interesting in those scenes. Obviously, i gave up the show, so maybe it got better, but if a show is about a bomb blowing up part of New York then that needs to be the focus.
January 26, 2017 at 10:34 pm #332846RumplesGirlKeymasterI can’t remember if we’ve made a note of this or not, but I just saw a promo for ABC’s new “Time After Time.” It will air at 9pm (two hour premiere) on Sunday, March 5. In other words, OUAT is the lead in. Gotta wonder if ABC is hoping that the shows will help each other.

Quite a few people who follow TV ratings in the SpoilerTV and SpottedRatings comments were really hoping that ABC would move OUAT to 9 or even 10pm, in order to give a Time After Time a better chance by airing it at 8pm. 9pm has become a deathslot thanks to all of the stiff competition from The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones and other big cable shows that air on Sunday nights. Seriously, why do so many big shows have to air on Sundays? Not to mention OUAT has become a weak-lead in. Despite those factors, ABC still decided to keep OUAT in its timeslot for a reason:
1) OUAT is still an important show to the ABC brand, even if ratings have drastically weakened. The show makes money via other avenues such as merchandise, Blu-Rays, online streaming, international deals, and now even the official conventions. Aside from streaming and international deals, most of ABC shows don’t have that. Even the TGIT shows only get DVD releases, not Blu-Rays. It doesn’t hurt that the show is a Disney synergy marketing vehicle for the parent company.
2) Perhaps ABC lacks faith in Time After Time? It’s not only a genre show, but a period show. Those are very hard sells. Viewers may also suspect that its too similar to NBC’s Timeless, and pass.
3) Time After Time is also a Warner Bros show, while OUAT is solely ABC’s. The network is going to favor their own in-house productions when they can.
4) They want to retain OUAT’s family audience. 9pm is up for debate, but 10pm would be out of the question for that audience. You could argue that ABC had no problem moving Agents of SHIELD to 10pm, but I wouldn’t say it’s nearly as much of a family show as OUAT is.Speaking of promos, ABC should start promoting OUAT’s return soon. Last year I believe they started the Mid Season OUAT promotion with a promo that aired during the Bachelor on the first Monday of February. If history repeats itself, February 6th could be when promotion starts.
