Was it up against anything particularly special last night?
MTV movie awards and NCIS LA finale part 1

A screening open to about 100 fans, which meant the entire episode was spoiled on Tumblr within hours.

I had no need to watch the episode because I’d heard all the songs on Spotify, seen clips of most of them (entire scenes) and anyone could have guessed that Fiona would crash the wedding. Also, for most people, musicals are such a polarising thing. Generally you either love them or hate them. It will be interesting to see if people tuned out after the first half hour…
Oh! And a curse hit. Shocker… I imagine most casual viewers are so fed up of the same recycled storylines – I know we are and we have actually stuck with the show.

Hmm, I imagine people would rather watch MTV awards live and record Once to watch later? Especially if they’ve already heard all the music for it anyway.

Dunno if either of those played a heavy part. NCIS seems to have done the same as the week before and the Princess Diana special actually doubled OUAT live eyeballs (and ticked up to a .9 in the demo) even though the MTV awards were still on (ie: people didn’t care to miss the second hour of MTV)

If that’s the case then it’s self-inflicted! Haha

Good point. Especially when DVR exists and the show has been mostly spoiled through various song sneak peeks.
Has anyone seen half hours yet?

AF Home Videos ………………. 1.016 … (0.978 … 1.054)
Once Upon a Time ……………. 0.775 … (0.802 … 0.748)
Last 100 Days of Diana ……… 0.907 … (0.831 … 0.898 … 0.964 … 0.934)Not the ugliest unroundeds I’ve seen, as I was honestly expecting worse. Still, ouch. Especially since Diana managed to grow from it.

As much as I enjoyed the music, the episode felt really rushed, disjointed and out-of-place. And with all the added publicity, and rumours of cancellation, this episode really just made the show look pathetically desperate in it’s attempts to get people to tune in. I honestly think a full episode surrounding the wedding and intimate character moments would have held more viewers. Instead we got CGI-fest. It is particularly bad when you have a character like the Black Fairy who is supposed to be the originator of evil, who stands awkwardly not knowing where to look when Emma is singing, rather than just releasing the black fairy dust to shut her up.
I just wish we could go back to a time where plot wasn’t everything. They seed in these really great character moments in some of these episodes and I crave for more of that. Scenes like Regina talking to Emma in New York about her struggle with the darkness inside of her. That is one of my favourite scenes. If they didn’t feel the need to throw in gimmicks, macguffins etc all the time, I think some of us might just enjoy these characters trying to live a normal life without the threat of a curse every five minutes.
