How odd; I thought for sure we’d have it off so that the politicos could ramp up to the debate. Well, your initial prediction might be right—airing the first 8 straight through and then a week off.
I actually think, if they really are planning to air episodes in January and February this Season, then maybe they’ll just start the winter hiatus earlier. We’re still getting a winter hiatus no matter what due to the December holidays, as per normal with any TV show. Perhaps it would be smarter to take all of December off, when TV ratings are typically low that month anyway. It would be similar to Seasons 1 and 2’s schedules, but with a slightly longer winter break. Here’s what I’m thinking:
601 – September 25th
602 – October 2nd
603 – October 9th
604 – October 16th
605 – October 23rd
606 – October 30th
607 – November 6th
608 – November 13thWe start our winter hiatus with the American Music Awards the following week, and it lasts til January 1st, New Years Day.
609 – January 8th
610 – January 15th
611 – January 22nd
612 – January 29thWe take a week off for the Super Bowl.
613 – February 12th
614 – February 19thWe take a week off for the Oscars.
615 – March 5th
616 – March 12th
617 – March 19th
618 – March 26thWe take a Spring hiatus, which includes Easter Sunday.
619 – April 23rd
620 – April 30th
621 – May 7th
622 – May 14thNow this is all still a prediction, and several variables have to be taken into account. Like, perhaps ABC would still want to do a 2 hour OUAT at least one week.
[adrotate group="5"]September 18, 2016 at 2:49 am #327271RumplesGirlKeymasterMatt your schedule seems pretty on point and logical. And actually it’s not as on/off as I expected when they announced the end of split seasons. I seem to recall s2 getting really choppy in its back half.
Also…wondering if the finale will be a two hour event or not. Neither s1 nor s2 were, even though the episodes still worked together as a two hour episode, similar to s3-s5.

September 18, 2016 at 9:39 am #327275hjbauParticipantDo we know for sure if they are going to not still air the episodes as a split season? Are they going to air in January? Also, they always air episodes til like the second Sunday of December and i doubt that is going to change. They didn’t skip for Thanksgiving every time either. We will see.
About the two hour finales, since they never have anything to do with the arc, i would rather they just stop.

It’s been confirmed several times that they’re doing away with Split Seasons, at least in terms of Split Season storyarcs: http://tvline.com/2016/06/11/once-upon-a-time-season-6-dropping-half-season-storylines/
Logically one would think that would apply to scheduling in some way, too. Channing Dungey, the new ABC President, has also said that she wants to do away with the very long winter hiatuses. I think preferably, she’d want OUAT airing new episodes in January and/or February.: http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2016/05/17/abc-2016-17-huge-in-season-hiatuses-may-no-longer-be-a-thing/
In regards to airing episodes in December, that could very well change, too. Some ABC shows have started their hiatuses at the end of November, so that practice could be applied to other shows. Also, it’s not the Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend that they skip, but the Sunday before Thanksgiving. This is because of the American Music Awards, which airs that Sunday every year. This has been consistent since Season 1. This years AMAs have already been confirmed to air on November 20th: http://www.theamas.com/2016/08/2016-amas-november-20/
September 18, 2016 at 6:11 pm #327282hjbauParticipantI am not talking about the arcs. Then can not have split season arcs and still show episodes into December. I don’t think that at all logically then applies to airing dates. Especially when before they started doing the stupid split arcs, they were still airing into December. If they just move the really long hiatus up til November then they have changed nothing, in my opinion. They have just changed the time of the too long hiatus and the hiatus would still be too long. I don’t think they should go back to skipping a week here and there and only having two episodes in a row. That didn’t work at all. We will see, i guess.
September 20, 2016 at 8:47 am #327360RumplesGirlKeymasterMaybe something worth mentioning but ABC did announce that Scandal, which is being held until midseason because of Kerry Washington’s pregnancy, will return in January. If ABC is considering January the start of their midseason (as opposed to late February or March like it was pre-change in regime) then I think Matt’s schedule is even more likely.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"September 20, 2016 at 9:55 am #327362thedarkonedearieParticipantIf Matt’s schedule ends up being what they do, I would be so very satisfied with that. I too remember season 2 being way more choppy in the back half. However, I enjoyed the first 8 episodes of season 2 a lot leading up to the Queen of Hearts which was a great episode. I hope we get a solid story played out for the first 7, then get a great episode 8 before taking a small break. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I felt the story changed a lot after Queen of Hearts. The first 8 episodes sort of felt like a split season, and I would appreciate it if they did something like that again here for season 6, and maybe not botch the back half of it. I’m maybe thinking the first 8 will MOSTLY be about the Evil Queen and splitting halves and Mr. Hyde and I’m thinking all of that and the untold stories will wrap up and then the rest of season 6 will be setting up Jafar as the next big bad. This is at least what I hope happens. I’d prefer not to dink around and spend an entire season with the Evil Queen and Mr. Hyde wreaking havoc. It’s a cool thought what they’re doing, but I think it could get old real fast. But that’s just my opinion.
