Well looks like my timeline was off for season 2 as there was a week they were off in between child of the moon and into the deep.  And queen of hearts was actually episode 9.  But if they could avoid a break and just have 8 straight episodes, I think that would help.

If Matt’s schedule ends up being what they do, I would be so very satisfied with that.

Same. The more I look it, the more I like it.

Just another thought—608 might not be the winter finale only because A and E didn’t write it and they usually do write any sort of finale/premieres. Of course, this isn’t a hard or fast rule so it’s possible that A and E chose to put more effort into writing 609 (the spring premiere) and let someone else take the winter finale, especially since now that split seasons are gone, the winter finale is not the finale of an entire storyline.

But there are no more “spring” premieres, and they didn’t write the episodes which followed the winter finales in s1-2.

Oh good point. And in both S1 and S2, they wrote at least 3 episodes (Pilot, The Thing You Love Most, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter; Broken, The Doctor, Queen of Hearts)

Hmmm. So if they write 609 then maybe that’s the final episode for winter? But that would be so awkward in scheduling–one episode, two weeks after the last one, because of the AMA’s. Unless, they air 608 and 609 on the same night?

    This sounds logical.

Good point. Even back in Seasons 1-2, Adam and Eddy wrote the Winter finales (“The Heart is a Lonely Hunter” and “Queen of Hearts”). ABC was still calling them that, even before Season 3. It’s always been common for shows to have Winter/Mid-Season finales for right before the holidays. So the next episode written by them could imply which episode will air last this Fall. If 609 is the Winter finale, then airing 608 and 609 back to back as a 2 hour event could work. It would honestly make more sense to make the Winter finale a 2 hour, as opposed to the random episodes that got the 2 hour treatment the previous 2 Novembers. If there is another 2 hour this November, then I expect Adam and Eddy could announce it at their NYCC panel in a few weeks. We could get some more schedule news then either way. One other factor to consider is if ABC decides to give OUAT a 23rd episode again, like they did with Seasons 4 and 5.

In a new interview, Adam said this, seemingly regarding the schedule:

We hope that when the audience finishes watching the first 10…

So I guess they’re airing 10 episodes before taking off for the holidays?

So first 8, then a break for AMA’s, then 2 more afterwards?

I would guess so. We shall see.
