While this isn’t a split season in the same way we’re used to seeing splits, we do have a long stretch ahead of us, so–as is tradition–let’s review what we all just spent 10 week watching. Y’all know the drill: answer the questions
1) What was your favorite episode of S6A? Runner up?
2) What was your least favorite episode of S6A? Runner up?
3) We had a lot of new characters crop up this year. Who was your favorite and who was your least favorite?
4) What storyline fascinated you the most? And which one frustrated you the most?
5) What do you hope to see more of in S6B?
6) Final grade and thoughts on S6A?
[adrotate group="5"]"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"December 4, 2016 at 10:43 pm #331211RumplesGirlKeymaster1) What was your favorite episode of S6A? Runner up?
My favorite episode was 6×7 “Heartless.” It was a delightful reminder of how powerful Snowing’s love story really is. It felt like a nice character study instead of plot plot plot.
Runner up: 6×4 “Strange Case.” Any time the show tries to have a conversation with society, cultures and values, I tend to be a fan. I may not like what the show says (the treatment of Mary still bothers me) but at least it’s more than plot plot plot. Also, Jekyll and Hyde were really well acted.
2) What was your least favorite episode of S6A? Runner up?
My least favorite was 6×5 “Street Rats.” What a total waste of an hour! Aladdin’s story was dull, rote, and added nothing to the universe or the story at large. I also find Aladdin to be really grating. Jafar is wasted which is frustrating since they went to the trouble of recasting Naveen.
Runner up: 6×9 “Changelings.” I am 100% over Rumbelle drama and the sick feeling I have watching them.
3) We had a lot of new characters crop up this year. Who was your favorite and who was your least favorite?
Probably Hyde. He had a real presence on screen and I loved his chemistry with the EQ. I also though the twist in the story was a good one.
My least favorite is definitely Aladdin. Between his accent and his total lack of screen presence, every time he showed up I felt my eyes close in boredom.
4) What storyline fascinated you the most? And which one frustrated you the most?
I don’t know if it fascinated me, but I did like that the show is trying–clumsily and slowly–to explore Saviorhood. I don’t know that they’re doing a great job because it’s not actually going anywhere (perhaps yet) but it’s important to the universe so I appreciate that.
Rumbelle frustrates me to no end. I cannot with them. I went from being devoted to this ship to loathing it.
5) What do you hope to see more of in S6B?
I’m just gonna say answers. That’s all I want. Some meaningful, well thought out, non cheap, non exploitative, non-fast and easy answers.
6) Final grade and thoughts on S6A?
Grade: C
I guess it’s safe to say that I wasn’t really a fan of this first half. It’s not that it was bad in the same way S5A was bad–which rubbed against me morally, ethically, and as a feminist. It was bad because it didn’t matter; there were so man stories going on at once but none of them got any sort of real attention or focus because apparently everything is happening next year. That is one way to write, but I don’t believe it’s a good way.
We got no further explanations for the Land of Untold Stories (keys! doors! people go there a lot apparently!) because once Jekyll and Hyde died, that story and those ideas/people exited stage left to the metaphorical Forgotten Character Island. Jekyll and Hyde themselves, while well acted, never felt like a real threat because they were kept either off screen or locked up, making snarky comments at anyone who visited.
The Evil Queen was supposed to be the real threat this first half and it’s true she managed to create some small measure of chaos (like with Snowing) but for someone who was was conceived as “totally evil” she was left mostly to make witty comments, kiss Rumple, and lament with Zelena. The fact that the Evil Queen was out getting manicures like it was an ordinary day and she had nothing better to do is downright bizarre. Regina, in the first season, did more dastardly and “Evil Queen” things to Emma than the actual Evil Queen did to anyone this year! The Evil Queen’s storyline also continued the maddening insistence that all evil/fallen women must somehow be sexually aggressive. More time was spent on her making out and flirting with Rumple than any long game she was playing against her real enemies; and this was not out of affection or genuine interest or even because sex is great and fun, but because in the minds of the writers, if a woman is evil then she must also be predatory in a sexual nature. It’s a gross trope and it needs to go away already.
The other major storyline this year was Aladdin and the idea of Saviorhood but like the Land of Untold Stories and Jekyll and Hyde, it went basically nowhere. In this case, it’s likely because it’s going to come up next year, but that doesn’t mean that some decent amount of time shouldn’t be spent at least exploring those ideas. Do you know why Aladdin is a Savior? I don’t. Do you care about his story, Jasmine’s story or anything to do with them? I don’t. Instead of laying groundwork into one of the biggest mythological constructs in the Onceiverse–the idea of Saviorhood–Aladdin simply appeared when needed, helped Emma see the light, and then became a genie.
Along the way we got still more stories that were teased before dropped like a hot potato for next year–like Charming’s father, the Black Fairy, and even Gideon. This isn’t to say that there weren’t good moments or ideas here. Lana Parilla got to act her socks off playing both the Evil Queen and Regina; Snowing’s centric episode was a delightful reminder of how powerful their love story is. Little things like costume, some of the CGI and witty one-liners remain a staple of the good parts of this show, but that’s part of the problem: only the little things remain.

1) the one with Regina and EQ sword fighting.
2) the first episode
3) favorite was Hyde. Or maybe Black Fairy. Least favorite was Aladdin.
4) EQ and what to do with her facinates me the most. Though she didn’t seem that evil, and they could have made her more evil by having her do all kinds of horrible things in the attempt to fill the hole in her heart other than Rumple (AKA Robin). What I find frustrating the most is the trumped up pre-curse attraction between Rumple and EQ. The rules of the lamp and the WWW are both a close second.
5) Hope to see plot holes/continuity errors sorted out. I wish for this each season, but sadly I don’t have a magic lamp so it never comes to pass.
6) 6/10. Sort it out writers. Please learn from fan’s complaints over continuity errors and stop creating problems with your world-building logic.

December 5, 2016 at 4:32 am #331239WickedRegalParticipant1) What was your favorite episode of S6A? Runner up?
Winner: 6×10 Wishing You Were Here
This was full of progress! David got to stand out on his own aside from his wife, we’ve seen how far Regina and Emma have really come in their friendship from where they started, and Bobby clearly had a swell time playing AU Rumplestilskin. Bonus Points, Sean Maguire returned as Robin Hood!
Runner Up: 6×07 Heartless
A lot of Season 1 Feels in this episode with the EQ out to destroy Snowing! And it also had wonderful parallel with Regina trying to protect Snowing while EQ was trying to kill them….not to mention I think Ginny and Josh gave one of their strongest performances in a while.
2) What was your least favorite episode of S6A? Runner up?
Least Favorite Episode: 6×06 Dark Waters
The episode was actually alright, the only reason it’s my least favorite is because of the kraken! I don’t do squids or octopuses….they’re literally my worst fear, and I wish they’d all go extinct, but you guys already know this! Lol!
Runner Up: 6×09 Changelings
I’m sorry….Zelena being defeated so easily by the EQ was just horrible, especially when it was established that only light magic can harm her. And Zelena was a magic prodigy, she shouldn’t have even lost! Also Regina saving Zelena because “that’s what heroes do” and not because they’re family along with being hypocritical, I just couldn’t. And the Rumbelle drama was just sad to watch, seeing a once strong ship slowly tear itself apart.
3) We had a lot of new characters crop up this year. Who was your favorite and who was your least favorite?
It’s a tie between Morpheus/Gideon & Hyde as favorites of mine! While Morpheus/Gideon seemed like such a sweet and kind gentlemen, clearly his grandmother has done a number on him, so it’ll be interesting to see how this plays out. And there was a mystery to Hyde that not a lot of our past guests had, and I definetly feel there was more to his story. Too bad we’ll never see it, it’s a shame he had to die.
I don’t really think I had a least favorite character…unless that Kraken counts.
4) What storyline fascinated you the most? And which one frustrated you the most?
The most exciting storyline so far had to be Evil Queen & Zelena’s sisterhood…the good side of it at least. From forcing Archie to babysit to pampering one another….it was nice to see what WickedSisters would have been like.
The least exciting storyline had to have been Aladdin so far. The actor and actress are doing a fantastic job, it’s just the storyline seems to keep getting pushed to the side to make room for other stories. We’ve never even seen Jafar again….maybe next year.
5) What do you hope to see more of in S6B?
Definetly more Robin Hood and OutlawQueen! That’s number one! And maybe perhaps more Snowing, I think it’s time for them to become front and center again along with everyone else. Gideon and Rumbelle is something I’m really looking forward to. And improvement on WickedSisters Relationship…that has to be fixed asap!
6) Final grade and thoughts on S6A?
Season 6A Final Grade: B-
What can I say…it wasn’t the best, but at least it wasn’t the worst!
Lana Parrilla was the shining grace of this entire season half, and really pulled off playing simultaneously Mayor Mills and the Evil Queen, sometimes even with one pretending to be the other. Even though I firmly believe that the Evil Queen’s arc could have been far greater as teased in the first three episodes, I can breathe knowing they didn’t make the ultimate mistake in killing off EQ as I still firmly believe her and Regina should be reunited in the end.
I don’t know what to say about Rumbelle, except that perhaps Gideon will probably be the best thing to come out of that relationship. I have very little faith in this ship as Adam and Eddy have dumped toxins upon toxins on it, but a little faith is better than no faith.
At the end of the day…..I think this season half was all over the place, but the cast made the mess work the best way they knew how. Let’s all just pray and hope that in March 2017, Season 6B will be better than it’s predecessor.

December 5, 2016 at 10:34 am #331261AKAParticipant1) What was your favorite episode of S6A? Runner up?
Favorite Episode: A Strange Case. Loved the Jekyll and Hyde story line and all the surprises that came with it. I would have loved to see more of Mr. Hyde I think Once killed him off way too soon.
Runner Up: Heartless, it was great to get back to the roots of the show and revisit Snow and Charmings true love story in a new way and the twist at the end was GREAT
2) What was your least favorite episode of S6A? Runner up?
Least Favorite: Changelings, really hate what the show did to Rumbelle and just saying well now they have something to bring them back together does not change all the damage they both did to each other this arch. It was horrible and really sad to watch, hated it.
Runner Up: Street Rats: still don’t care about Jasmine and Aladdin or there story line. This episode was completely boring
3) We had a lot of new characters crop up this year. Who was your favorite and who was your least favorite?
Favorite: without a doubt Hyde. Least Favorite: Baby Morpheus or Aladdin
4) What storyline fascinated you the most? And which one frustrated you the most?
Fascinated: I loved all the untold stories and the classic literature piece. We somehow just dropped that after Hyde died which is a shame I was really looking forward to more stories and how they interconnected with our main characters.
Frustrated: Rumbelle. The writers actually destroyed a beautiful love story and made it into a complete and utter mess, really badly done.
What do you hope to see more of in S6B?
Well they definitely have a lot of loose ends to clean up, I hope they clean them up and answer all the unanswered questions. I also hope they don’t answer these questions in an easy and pointless way; give us some in depth character growth and analysis while answering these questions
Final grade and thoughts on S6A?
I give the season a C+ it had a lot of potential but some of the stories (Aladdin) fell flat and other story lines were completely ridiculous and unnecessary (Golden Queen) and others were just horrible done (Rumbelle)
December 5, 2016 at 8:54 pm #331315RumplesGirlKeymasterBonus question!
How would have changed this season? What would you have written instead (even if you loved most of this arc, what would you have done?)

The idea of the Evil Queen coming to town and facing down a unified front, including Regina, and everyone having to battle their own demons feels like the final chapter in a long Hero’s Journey. We’ve battled and defeated the agent of Death, now here comes Chaos Incarnate to upset our happy home. Emma defeating the Evil Queen–preferably by reintegrating her with Regina–and saving her own Saviorhood, as well as the home she previously tried to run away from, is the perfect end to her story. She’s come home; she’s come into herself. Emma accepted her own identity and everything she is–mother, daughter, Savior, witch, Dark One, Light One. A complete circle–round and round it goes, until we arrive back home.
Why not make this entire season about Emma’s Saviorhood; keep the Evil Queen as Chaos Incarnate with a small helping of Jekyll and Hyde to provide commentary on the separation of self, which would provide a nice parallel to Emma wanting her Savior-side to be gone, but drop everything else and focus on the core: Emma’s internal struggle with this last bit of her journey–ultimate acceptance of herself.

OMG where do I begin?
-No kissing and sex between Rumple and EQ. There was enough drama without this. And there are other ways to show that the EQ still has a hole in her heart and craves attention.
-Hyde would stick around a bit longer. Maybe he could have been EQs love interest instead. Hyde was sex-y!
-Regina would not be so hypocritical towards her sister. I would have included Robin’s rape into this conversation also. (Going forward, I would like Regina to admit to the whole Graham mess).
-OUAT would fall in step with Wonderland and it’s rules e.g. the lamp.
-Belle would stay permanently away from Rumple except to work together to solve the Gideon issue. (Admittedly, this is more of a going-forward thing).
-Rumple becoming the Ultimate!Dark One by harnessing the powers of all the previous Dark One’s should have been addressed by now.
-I would have made it more clear if WWW was fake, created just for Emma or new real world created because of Emma.
-TLK from Emma and Regina would wake up Charming and Snow (respectively) simultaneously. Either that or a better Snowing curse to create drama.
-No Aladdin or Jasmine. Don’t need to introduce them for Rumple to own a lamp.
-Blue would be Black
-I would prefer that Hade’s was lying; that it is possible to get Robin back by some other means rather than creating a lamp-wish-fake! Robin scenario. Meanwhile, Zelena could refuse to bring Hades back along with Robin, which could build trust between the two sisters.
-They set up the Untold Story thing in ep 1, and I would like to see more of this world, and more of the characters from this world. I would like to see some of their untold stories played out.
-Where is Regina’s light magic? Logically, she should be able to do this now that EQ is roaming around separately!

December 6, 2016 at 10:40 am #331354GrimmsisterParticipant1)What was your favorite episode of S6A? Runner up?
It was this last one “Wish You were here” episode 10. It was Brilliant!! imo one of the very best from all seasons. Reasons- My two favorite characters Regina/Evil Queen and Emma had lots of scenes which were all super brilliant, well written, well acted. Rumplestiltzkin was at his best. Henry god to be a KNIGHT. The Charming David screwed up the way he does it best. Also It was a great storytelling idea to let us see how things would be without the dark curse (even though this was a bit different, because it was a reality that sprung from Emma’s wish) The costumes were on point, really beautiful. I could go on with stuff that where great, but I will save it for the review of this ep.
My runner up is a tie between e2 “A bitter Draught” and e7 “Heartless” – Reasons- “A bitter Draught“ was where the first meeting between EQ and Regina happened and it blew me away. We all got to know a bit more about the entity of EQ. And it was the Monte Cristo story, which I enjoyed.. “Heartless” was a really good episode for the Charmings and the relationship between them- Regina and EQ. And I loved that the show was exploring the heart mythology more. Also it had such brilliant throw backs to season one. (actually, I think “Heartless” is just as good as my Fave, so I have two Faves 😉 …and e2 is the runner up)
2) What was your least favorite episode of S6A? Runner up?
Hmm if I have to choose one it might be e6 “Dark waters” Only because it didnt do much for the overall story. It centered on Hook and Henry’s relationship and that didn’t doo much for me.
I cant choose a runner up because Ive liked all the episodes
3) We had a lot of new characters crop up this year. Who was your favorite and who was your least favorite?
Definitely Mr Hyde is my fave. He was awesome, mysterious, Dark, but with a soft spot in his heart, sooo well acted- His and EQ scenes were sparkling with chemistry. He died way too soon.
Least favorite- HMMM Maybe Jafar just because he didn’t really do anything and we had so high hopes for him, but he might still come back and redeem himself..
4) What storyline fascinated you the most? And which one frustrated you the most?
To no surprise to anyone who has read my other comments- Im most fascinated by EVIL QUEEN and REGINA’s story… I feel like I will be repeating myself if I go into an explanation why.. Plus I have so much to say it takes up too much room 😉
Im frustrated by Belle and Rumple and their relationship. Im also frustrated by Aladdin and Jasmine’s story they felt so much like filler to me.
5) What do you hope to see more of in S6B?
Of what I know we WILL see- Im soooo exited to see a bit more of this world that was created by Emma’s wish- To see Robin (or is it Roland..-..) And how Regina deals with that situation.- Im exited about what will happen to Emma- The Charmings who, poor them, are still under the sleeping curse.
Of what I hope to see- I hope to see much more of the Evil Queen, I will never be ready for that character to not be on screen anymore, so please show- turn her back from snake to human form real fast. I hope for many more scenes between the sisters Regina and Zelena and for them to work out their differences. I hope to find out what happened to Charmings father. I hope to become more invested in the Rumple and Gideon storyline. And I agree with the people mentioning wanting to see more of the Charmings, they are core characters and should be given more storylines.
6) Final grade and thoughts on S6A?
I will give them a 8.5/10 or a B Im very happy with this season, but there is room for improvement.
Bonus question what would I change? OH wow! that calls for some more thinking, I might answer that one later.
December 6, 2016 at 11:11 am #331356thedarkonedearieParticipantMy favorite since season 3A….
1) What was your favorite episode of S6A? Runner up?
This goes to Heartless. Runner up: Changelings and Strange Case.
2) What was your least favorite episode of S6A? Runner up?
Wish You Were Here. Runner up: Street Rats
3) We had a lot of new characters crop up this year. Who was your favorite and who was your least favorite?
Favorite: Hyde and Black Fairy. Least Favorite: Jekyll and Gideon
4) What storyline fascinated you the most? And which one frustrated you the most?
Fascinated: Someone murdered charming’s dad. Snowing’s new curse. Oh, and the Savior mythology. Oh and black fairy. And the person under the hood. Least fascinated: This AU world. No interest in things that aren’t actually real.
5) What do you hope to see more of in S6B?
Two words: Black Fairy. And Agrabah and Jafar. Need to see answers to charming’s dad, what’s up with Jafar and Agrabah, more Savior mythology, a resolution to Emma’s death sentence.
6) Final grade and thoughts on S6A?
Final Grade: B+. This is based on the intriguing storylines and the overall feeling of a season 1 vibe that I think they definitely accomplished. For the first time, I’m intrigued with all the open storylines and I hope they deliver on all the answers in the back half.
