The new game show Child Support premiered with a 0.9 in OUAT’s slot last night
I think Child Support is going to crash and burn with next week’s ratings. I love gameshows, and shows like Master Chef Jr., or Little Big Shots, and I thought it was pretty uninspired. The kids who help the contestant aren’t even there in person, and it’s one of those gameshows that’s anti-climactic where the top amount you can win keeps going down the more questions you get wrong. OUAT may be over, but I don’t think this show will contribute to that.
[adrotate group="5"]January 7, 2018 at 9:35 pm #345306RumplesGirlKeymasterThe actors seem to be looking elsewhere. It is time.
If ABC doesn’t announce a cancellation at the TCA’s we’ll have to track some of the actors like Lana and Colin–if they appear to be going out for Pilot season (which is now beginning) well have our answer that way. The hard part will be telling if they are in LA to visit or to read scripts for pilots.

Even if ABC is on the fence about a possible Season 8, I wouldn’t be surprised if at least the veteran cast members pass on the opportunity to resign back on. They must realize that the show’s days are numbered, and they’ll have to look for new acting gigs sooner rather than later. If they get the chance to audition for Pilot Season, they very well may take that chance, rather than take the risk of resigning onto a show that could get cancelled by May. I think it would be smarter for all parties to just quit while they’re ahead, and decide that this is the final Season with a formal announcement at the TCAs tomorrow. Don’t play mindgames with this “we may or may not do a Season 8” nonsense, like they did last year with Season 7.

Totally. I think Bobby is 100% done and only came back for S7 because of this particular Rumple/Rumbelle storyline.

Again, totally agree. A and E have said that they’ve planned for multiple seasons but I *really* need this show to have a proper ending and not something that feels incomplete.

I do have a hard time imagining the old cast wanting to return after how little they have been given. If they find pilots, they should definitely seek work elsewhere.
January 8, 2018 at 2:49 pm #345311MatthewPaulModeratorChanning Dungey’s comments on OUAT at TCA today:
“Turning to Once Upon a Time, which just entered its annual midseason hiatus, Dungey says the low “live” numbers (Season 7 is averaging 2.5 million viewers and a 0.5 rating) aren’t painting a full picture of the show’s loyal audience, seeing as delayed viewing‚ which last season averaged around 55 percent, now is in the triple digits.
“So the actual fan base [measured by total audience] really hasn’t shifted very much. It’s more that they’ve been watching it more time-shifted since we’ve been on Friday,” she noted. As for the prospect of renewal, she is waiting to hear the Season 8 plan from co-creators Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis.”

“I would say I’m cautiously optimistic,” ABC boss Channing Dungey told reporters at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour Monday. “It’s always hard at this point in January to know because some of it is also dependent on your new development and how you feel about those things, so that’s why it’s really hard at the top of the year to know exactly what’s going to happen.”
In its rebooted seventh season, Once Upon a Time has been averaging 3.7 million total viewers and a 1.1 in the 18-49 demographic season to date. “The thing about Once Upon a Time is that the ratings have been a little bit lower on Friday than they were on Sunday, but our delayed viewing, which we were averaging a bump of about 55 percent, this year has been into triple digits, so the actual fanbase really hasn’t shifted very much,” Dungey says. “It’s more that they’ve been watching it more time-shifted since we’ve been on Friday.”
Dungey notes that a potential season 8 would also depend on the creative, which she has not yet heard. “Eddy [Kitsis] and Adam [Horowitz] are going to be coming in shortly to talk with us about what they would want to be doing if they had another season, so I can’t really say until we’ve had that conversation,” Dungey said.

So it sounds like they’re being vague about it, and we probably really will have to wait until May. So much for a “Final Season” announcement.

BOBBY signed because he has kids going to school and he was trying to not up root them … He will probably look for other shows/ movies to do … but I think his family needs is his highest priority.

Wow, I wasn’t actually expecting that sort of super vagueness. She barely acknowledges the low demos and suggests that people watching it after the fact is playing a part in all this.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"January 8, 2018 at 11:23 pm #345315kranenParticipantAnnnnd I’m back to not being sure again. I was certain that this was the final season before. But now after that comment about the delayed viewing figures being in triple digits (compared to 55% last year), I just can’t tell.
I personally feel like it’s time to end. I still feel like it should have ended last season. The live ratings say it all. But Channing seems to be happy with these delayed figures. The question now – I suppose – is will Eddy & Adam have a strong enough pitch for an eighth season for her to completely ignore the live ratings and only focus on the delayed ratings?
January 9, 2018 at 4:23 am #345316ry4christParticipantIt’s nice to see channel heads like Dungey are starting to understood how the tv viewing landscape has changed so much. Based on her comments here, I’d venture to say as long as A&E have a decent storyline planned and at least one of the older cast stays, we’re getting a Season 8. Whether we should get a Season 8… I, like many of you, think the show could have ended in a satisfactory way about 4 years ago. But as long as they keep making it and I keep enjoying it, I’ll watch it, and right now I’m enjoying it.
