KeymasterOnce Upon a Time ……………. 0.496 … (0.550 … 0.442)
This is a trend we’ve seen for awhile. I’d really like to know what makes people turn off half way through (I mean, not that it matters anymore)

I heard that its apparently common for some 8pm shows to be inflated from their local lead-ins. Not everybody watching the local lead-in changes the channel right away. Another thing I heard is that it could be a side effect of Same Day delayed viewers. Some may only watch half of the episode, and save the rest for later. Or perhaps they start watching, but they don’t finish watching until after the Same Day viewing window (3am EST/12am PST) has ended, so only part of their viewing was counted. All of these could potentially explain the half hour drops, as we tend to recover at the top of the hour the week after as well.

ModeratorFinals for 713 are in. We stayed at our 0.5 demo, but adjusted down in eyeballs a bit to 2.378 million viewers.

ModeratorOn another note, ABC’s dumpster fire continues, with Deception dropping to a 0.8 and For the People dropping to a 0.6 for their 2nd episodes. Yikes. Seems like they’re in for a really ugly Spring. Tomorrow is the premiere of their heavily hyped Grey’s spinoff, Station 19, so they better hope it works.

ABC really wants Station 19 to be the new Scandal but I dunno; I see a lot of mixed reactions from people. It doesn’t seem to have a solid enough hook for people to tune in tomorrow.

From what I’ve seen and heard, it’s a blatant ripoff of Chicago Fire. They probably want to attempt to create a Chicago-ish franchise out of Grey’s with similar spinoffs, if Station 19 works. It’s actually premiering against a 2 hour Chicago Fire tomorrow, which NBC surely did to attempt hurting Station 19’s launch. This ties into ABC’s strategy to push for more procedurals. So far it worked for The Good Doctor (medical drama), but failed for Deception (crime drama) and For the People (legal drama). However, I think The Good Doctor worked because 1) Freddie Highmore and 2) the fact that it explores a lead character with Autism, not because it’s a typical medical drama.

ParticipantThe acting is pretty bad on Chicago Fire, as is the writing at some times. They have only recently had a female fire fighter where it actually stuck instead of having a female character become a firefighter and then get bumped back to the ambulance so that she wasn’t working for her husband. They killed their only LGBT character in an early season. Having a black, male commander is the only thing it has going for it. I already like the main character from Station 19, they had a Grey’s episode with her on it, more then any of the characters on Chicago Fire.
We will see what they do, but they are already trying to be more inclusive on Station 19, from what i have read, and Station 19 has a much greater chance of being character driven which is what makes a show good, in my opinion. The writers of Grey’s and Scandal and How to get away with murder are at least trying to create characters with personalities and then having them make decisions about what is happening around them and then have that drive the plot, instead of it all just being plot, plot, plot no choices, no character growth, like a lot of shows.

KeymasterRatings are in for episode 7×14 “The Girl in the Tower”
Demo: .4
Eyeballs: 2.30 million
That is a tie for our series low and down .1 from last week.

KeymasterChecking back in with the ABC dumpster fire…
Station 19, which is a new Shonda show and ABC’s great hope to replace flag ship Scandal, did a 1.2/1.1 in the demo which for a series premiere of a Shonda show isn’t pretty but not necessarily Dead on Arrival (which For the People was).
At this rate I don’t think ABC can afford to cancel two new shows–FtP is a goner so I can see S19 getting a second season if only to fill up the lineup of TGIT and keep it all Shonda (even if she’s cutting and running to Netflix…)

ModeratorRatings are in for 715. We went up to a 0.5 demo, but oddly enough down a tad in total viewers at 2.08 million. Half hours are 0.5/0.4, so there’s a chance we may or may not keep our demo. Depends on the unroundeds, when they come out.
