When I saw this thread, I was all YAAAAYYY and took a deep breath as I clicked the link.
Then…yikes. We waited that long for that?! Dunno whether to laugh or cry that they’ve been taken down already. Hopefully the ABC promo goons have been chained to Photoshop until they come up with something better. The fan created ones are a frillion times more impressive.Last year’s were fun and creative and this year’s are just blah.
Last year’s spoiled us. Multiple, clear pics of each character, in really creative and fitting scenes. Isn’t S3 all about them being in the land where imagination is born? They couldn’t use a little imagination for the photos?
That one of Emma, for example, could have been really fun and creative. They’ve got her standing there looking unimpressed in a princess dress that we’ve seen her mother wear previously with a big smile on her face. They coulda roughed Emma’s face and hair up more, stuck her in a NL jungle setting, and had multiple shots of her struggling with the dress. Hitching it up to step over a big log, climbing a tree, just sitting in a heap in the dirt looking lost, stuff like that. It could have been really fun and fitting, the reluctant princess coming to terms with who she was born as, while roughing it in the wilds of NL.

This is a FANTASTIC idea for an Emma shot. Her just standing in the gown doesn’t make sense. But her trying to fight against the dress (her destiny and heritage) makes a ton of sense.

I liked the ones of Belle and Neal (Henry looks all right too) but dang, that cloud background thing was HORRIBLE and made everyone look all hazy and cloudy. This cast is all ready gorgeous….ease up on the Photoshop people!!! 🙁
Love JMo in the dress but agree that it does NOT work for Emma. I hope these get replaced and I don’t even care how much it costs. This show is too good to have crappy publicity shots!
#MoreBOOMLessGloomSeptember 12, 2013 at 11:31 pm #209495PheeParticipantAnd it’s a concept I came up with in about 2 whole minutes. Yet people who are meant to do this stuff as a profession, who no doubt had an entire production meeting about it, all they could come up with is, “put her in a dress with no makeup and have here stand there and pout”. Like, seriously?
Oh, and in my ranting, I forgot to mention that that CaptainSwanFire photo is utterly adorable and I’m glad they finally published it.

I’m half wondering if they decided they didn’t like the original background, Photoshopped it out, and then had to blur the edges to try and make it all blend together with the new background. If so, mission FAILED.

I really wanna hear your takes on the rest. The Hook photo is by far the worst. What is his face? Why does he look like he has white hair? What is with the terrible blurry!!!
The CSF photo was the bright spot today.

I was wondering if we’d ever see the final product from that photoshoot. Now THAT is a picture that needs to be tweeted and promoted a LOT to erase everyone’s memories of the crappy promo pics, LOL 😆

Colin retweeted this. I really wanna know what the cast thinks of these photos.

Rumple – It’s Mr Gold in Rumple’s clothing. At the very least have him doing a Rumple pose, for starters. Have him look like a menacing man on a suicide mission, instead of, ya know, totally bored and just standing there.
Snow – Ginny’s face says, “This is so not anything Snow White ever wore, WTF are they doing?” It’s a gorgeous dress, but it’s not Snow. The concept for her needs to go all the way back to the drawing board.
Belle – Shoulda kept the costume but shoulda been shot in the library, similar to how last year she was in her FTL dress in the Diner. They’ve got her in her little superhero costume now, but her weapon isn’t that dagger she’s holding, it’s her books and her smarts. Have her standing behind, (or sitting on) the circulation desk of her library, wearing that costume. Climbing a ladder to put books back on the top shelf. Give her book on elevator repair and have her standing next to the broken elevator with the book in one hand an a screwdriver in the other.
Regina – Her costumes have such fabulous lines, which last year’s photos really played up well. She had that big, red dress that she was swooshing around in and they draped it so it looked like dripping blood. This costume has cool curved lines, in the neckline, the belt thingo, her necklace and her headpiece, but she’s not posed to play up those lines at all. Stick her amongst some trees with cool, curving branches all around her. With her arms out like they are in the pic we got, if she was surrounded by curving tree branches, it’d look like she was using magic to make them reach out, which we know is one of her tricks, so a photo like that would illustrate her power. Get some movement shots with the bottom of the dress fanning out. She could look seriously Ursula-ish cool and slick and dangerous in that thing if they’d actually used the dress like they did in last year’s shoot.
Charming – His costume is fine, though I feel like we’ve seen it before, is it the same one from last year’s pics? If they’re gonna stick him in a cape like that, again, use it to create some drama in the photo. Have him running through the jungle, or even along a beach, determined look on his face and that cape flapping wildly in the wind. Beach shot would be especially good if they have him in a blue cape that’s flying around, because the cape would look like a wave that’s about to come crashing down, and it’d make him look powerful, instead of just standing there like a dumbarse.
Hook – This photo wants to make me weep, and not in a good way. First of all where’s his big pimpin’ pirate coat?!?! Wanna make him look imposing, (which I’m guessing is what they were after because of his expression), don’t take away his signature coat! Have him on his ship FFS! OMG, like, the Captain, posing at the wheel of his ship, it’s a freaking no brainer and all the Hookers would keel over in a swoon. Give him a sword, have him spin around so his big coat fans out around him and get a supercool action shot. Like, seriously, hot photos of Colin Hook O’Liferuiner should not be a chore to attain, so how did they manage to screw it up so bad?!
Neal – Nothing really wrong with his clothes, though a bit of colour would have been nice. Just giving him his signature scarf with the red stripe would have been enough, (and would have been a nice connection to the Henry pic too, I love that father and son both wear red striped scarves). If they’d shot the rest in the jungle, they could have shot him in the forest, because he’s in a different world. His expression screams disinterest, which isn’t in keeping with his character’s S3 journey at all. The guy is gonna be determined and desperate, so let’s get a little bit of that in his posing and expressions, please. If they wanna have that rock in the shot, have him sitting on it, fists clenched together out in front of him, steely expression, almost like he’s praying for a way home.
Henry – The kid is in the midst of the biggest adventure of his life right now, and that’s all we get for the photo? Rough him up a bit, give him the same determined expression that the photo of his father should have. Give him a weapon of some sort, even if it’s just a big stick, and have him in fighting and heroic poses, because Henry has always wanted to be a fairytale hero and now he’s getting his chance.
September 13, 2013 at 12:32 am #209501SlurpeezParticipantPhee, you should be a set designer/photography stager (not sure what title to use) if you’re not already! Your suggestions are so well thought out and would really improve the images! Now if only the graphic designer would get rid of the blurred effect on the photos!
