Don’t know about anyone else, but I’m starting to tire of this 11 episode arc story theme they’ve been doing since S3. While I am thrilled to see Male come back, I am missing folklore, fables and stories outside of characters that exist in Disney Productions.
I want to see more story lines surrounding supporting cast that we first came to love in S1. How about a storyline surrounding Whale & Ruby? What about a story line about a young Granny? Why don’t the delve into stories about the Ogre Wars?
So much they can do yet they seem to be only working on what sells for Disney. It’s almost as though the advertising is dictating the story lines. Every commercial this evening was about purchasing Frozen dolls, DVDs & CDs.
Let’s get away from all the Disney commercialism and get back to K&H telling their stories.
Anyone else feel that this series has really sold out to Disney?

Yes, 100%! The title Frozen was name dropped 2-3 times in just this recent episode alone, probably because that film was Disney’s biggest hit in a long time. Even though Elsa and Anna grew on me, I’m ready to see them go. I also felt as though their story could’ve been told in 2-3 episodes, and even Ingrid’s story could’ve been flushed out way before. There were probably at least 4 non-essential episodes of filler this arc. The epiosde of the citizens being under the spell could’ve spanned at least 2 epiodes, which would’ve given the people of SB way more to do than just fade back into oblivion.

Don’t talk about such things that will only depress me because I know they won’t come to be. *sigh* (I dunno how many eps iZombie has, but thought I read somewhere it had a shorter season than usual? Get him back on OUAT before he leaves Vancouver PLZ. And is Meghan doing anything? I think she did a movie recently but dunno if she has any ongoing commitments? She’s a freaking Vancouver local. If they have a story line about the woman who likes to skin dogs and they don’t involve the freaking WOLF, then I can’t even.)

There’s another thread somewhere that mentions how the anniversary or whatever special edition of Aladdin is due out next year, so decent bet is that’s when we’ll get those characters on OUAT. Admittedly in that case they’ve already established Jafar in the OUAT universe, so it was pretty much inevitable that he’d show up on the main show sooner or later. But I can’t help but think that if not for them clamouring to capitalise on the Frozen hype, we might have got Jafar, Aladdin and Jasmine in the same season we got Will, which would make a lot of sense because Will has a history with Jafar.

Yup. Of course they have. Cruella coming just in time for the diamond edition of 101 Dalmatians to come out of the vault? Not a coincidence.

Yup. I think S5 will be Aladdin

And despite the fact that it’ll be totally inspired by the Disney re-release and a cheap promo grab, I can’t help but be a little bit excited, because Aladdin was one of my fave movies, almost tied for first with The Little Mermaid.
December 8, 2014 at 9:38 am #292432CindersParticipantI’m expecting a long 11 weeks of fan complaints. Why are they featuring Cruella so much? Why aren’t they showing more Meleficent? I want more Ursula! 3 villains! Where’s Belle? They lock up Belle AGAIN! Too much Cruella!
This town is too small for 3 villains at once. Ursula deserves her own story arc, why are they wasting her arc in a Cruella story? Where’s Maleficent? Too much Ursula!
Our main characters are under featured because of the 3 villains.

Next season half is totally a Rumple Centric Season 4B…and if not Rumple, then probably Regina. Those two probably have the most history with Cruella, Mal, and Ursula. As a matter of fact, next season 4B is just Villains Centric in general about villains getting their happy ending.
Place Your Bets! Whose Rumple’s past lover, and whose his past student! 😉
For some odd reason…I’ve got that strange feeling Rumple and Cruella were a thing…I maybe wrong though. When Mal was peeved off at King Stefan(no doubt Adam and Eddy are about to just go the Maleficent Movie route) Rumple probably trained Maleficent, and used her as an advantage against the “flea” fairies! 🙂
Not a clue what Rumple’s history could be with Ursula.

And, if they’re all looking for happy endings, you’d think they’d have a bone to pick with Snow who seems to be the only gal with a happy ending so far.
Plus, if those Dalmatians, sea gulls, ravens and such, start midnight howling and communicating distress, maybe Snow can decipher their language and come rescue them. As in, maybe Belle’s new puppy tells Snow where the villains are hiding Belle. Snow can rescue her so she’s free for Regina to kidnap later. Sorry, kidding.

I disagree, mainly because Rumple and Regina have already had their centric arcs in 3A and 3B. Pan was Rumple’s villain, Zelena was Regina’s, and now Ingrid & 4A was Emma. I see 4B being villains centric (I sure hope so anyways) and about villains getting their happy endings for sure, and Regina’s quest to get hers will probably be a major part of it, but as for who the arc will belong to if they continue to go that route, my money’s on the one former villain we have who is arguably most on his way to achieving a happy ending right now – Hook.
That or, like Cinders said, I’d like a Snow-centric 4B as well. Her, Hook, and Will are (I believe) the only main cast to NOT have had any backstory this half, which leads me to believe one of them will take the forefront in 4B. Though they’ve said we’ll get more Will in 4B, I tend to think they’ll wait until Jafar in 5A to give him a real and proper villain arc instead of thrusting him into the limelight right after such minimal appearances in 4A.
I have to say, though, while I appreciate people’s desire to have the show go back and focus on the core and original supporting casts, can any of you name one long running, successful genre show that didn’t frequently add new antagonists, supporting characters and plot elements? I can’t think of any – doesn’t mean they don’t exist, but they’re not the norm. I feel like the only reason OUAT gets so much flak for it is because unlike adding Bill and Jane for an episode or an arc, they introduce characters like Glinda and Tinkerbell that come coded with years of previous adaptations and personal feelings about said characters. Just my opinion, but it doesn’t bother me as much as it seems to a lot of people because to me it’s the same as Buffy’s legion of supporting characters, or the entire groups they introduced in a couple of Lost seasons.
Have they sold out? Yeah, maybe, though it can be argued that that started all the way back with ABC’s going ahead with Once Upon a Time instead of the previously-in-development Fables adaptation (a comic series from Vertigo that has a similar premise but without the Disney ties). Honestly, though, even if every arc since 3A has coincided with some sort of release or anniversary, I’ve also enjoyed each of them so far and I say bring on the Queens of Darkness. The villains are always my favorite and personally I’ve been wanting a villain mashup again since season 2, so I’m eagerly awaiting 4B.
