I’ve been looking this and I finally found it again. Most likely, we will find out Charming’s real name next season but I saw this months ago around the time, or maybe after the airing of the episode. It’s a screenshot of the script, featuring a scene between Shepherd James and his mother.
It was the last scene mother and son share together in that episode.
from Prince Charming fanforum thread.
It’ll be interesting in the future if the writers choose to keep these names.

There was a King Richard the Lionheart of England from the Robin Hood legend, but I doubt that has any link to Prince Charming. I did discover that the name Richard means “powerful leader” which does fit nicely with PC though.

I do wonder if Gold’s name will be Adam, the rarely known name given to the beast in Disney’s version.

I doubt they’ll make a huge deal about the reveal of his real name, but it’s one of those little things I’m curious about. Pretty sure there was an interview somewhere that mentioned that we’d find out his real name this season.
August 11, 2012 at 7:54 pm #153001AliasscapeParticipantYeah, Emma’s name was originally Anna. It seems like they couldn’t get Anna approved by whoever does name approvals rather than them actually wanting to change it. I can’t recall what interview made me think that.
I’d seen this supposed script page on a website months ago but I hope they don’t stick with it because I really don’t like the name Richard. David and James are both Biblical names and for me it seems like a biblical name would fit him best.
I could live with his name turning out to coincidentally be James anyway but I absolutely don’t want it to be David. I feel like David was such a perversion of who Charming was that the name now symbolically represents everything that was wrong with him during the curse. When it comes to melding the two together in S2, I think while Charming will have David’s memories, he actually can’t retain any of the personality because it was such a polar opposite of his true self. Thus the way Josh keeps describing it as “David is dead. Charming is back.”
And I agree and think David should be dead. It would be horrible symbolism for David to turn out to be Charming’s real name, making it impossible to ever truly bury who he was during the curse. I think they obviously want there to be curse repercussions for Charming of course but I don’t think they want the repercussions of David’s cowardice to be permanent. He’s lost enough in just time raising his daughter and grandson and the 28 years in a coma away from Snow. The marriage/affair issues I think are something that can be overcome. So it’d be bad writing in my opinion to force him to retain a name that would symbolize an inability to ever overcome the relationship problems.

Snow may forgive him for what he did but Charming wouldn’t forgive himself so easily for how he treated her. The fact that he and David would share the same name would be a reminder of that. Also it would make for an uneasy reconciliation with Emma. The David that Snow knows Charming as would be completely different from the David that Emma knows him as, yet Emma would still see the situation as David hurt her best friend/mother.
