So, in this ep we meet Silvermist, and her presence raises a lot of questions:
Where is she getting her fairy dust? It has to come from somewhere, so logically we can conclude that:
- Wonderland has diamond mines
- Wonderland has dwarfs or its own breed of mining creatures
- or Wonderland is being supplied with dust from another realm. Jefferson could have amassed quite a fortune transporting dust between realms. So that’s what portal jumpers are good for…
Who is in charge of the fairy hierarchy in Wonderland? Is there a Blue Fairy equivalent there? Does Blue somehow make her will known across all worlds? Is Silver gonna be in trouble? Because SHE GOT BIG FOR NO REASON (both in this ep and in her previous relationship with the Knave, unless he ate a piece of shrinking mushroom). Jus’ sayin’. 😉 Also, attempted murder. Wonder which way Blue would lean on that, seeing as nobody really likes the Knave.
Proud of myself for actually vaguely recognizing the name Silvermist, since I don’t have children.

Silvermist was clearly in a romantic relationship with the Knave (Blue does not approve) but you clap to get her attention (which is very NL)

The chapter books by Gail Carson Levine (Ella Enchanted) aren’t bad, but the movies are definitely more in the cute advertisements for toys variety than artistic vision/creative imagination variety. So I don’t know how entirely well-thought out it is, but the fairies date and have boyfriends (“Sparrowmen”). Tink’s best friend is Terrence who has an obvious crush on her, and Rosetta has references to having broken up with one guy, and forming a crush on another. The Secret of the Wings featured a whole ban on crossing fairy territory based in part on a tragic love story of the Queen of the Fairies.
So I don’t know, maybe they’ll tackle the idea of multiple versions of stories/characters that are inconsistent with each other in Wonderland, because, well, it’s Wonderland and anything is possible there. I think it would be an interesting idea to wink at the idea of the mash-up of the ONCEiverse itself.
So I would like it if Silvermist and her brand of WL fairies actually are NOT under the sneaky blue thumb of BF.

If originally fairies came from one world: Wonderland, Neverland, or another, and fairies have scattered to different realms over time (not unlike the Elves of Middle Earth leaving Valinor in order to set up their own realms in Middle Earth). I could just see an episode of Once sometime where the queen of the original order (or her emissary) shows up and reveals that Blue was a rogue fairy who ran off from the original order and set up her own order, and is now under arrest for abuse of power and general mismanagement. No, I don’t expect it, but a girl can dream.
October 18, 2013 at 11:44 pm #217045TheWatcherParticipantThe way I’m taking it is that Fairies are virtually the overseers of all the magical worlds. They exist in all the magical lands and are all run by that ole Rheu Gorem. We saw that fairy dust has to be delivered, so I assume its made in one land and delivered to others OR each world has it own way of developing fairy dust. EF has diamonds, maybe NL has shadows, and WL could have mushrooms that can be made into dust. Apart from that, notice Silvermist’s wings? She seems to be an aquatic fairy. Even her magic looks like bubbles. That raises questions to me. It could explain why blues and tinks wings are different. They are different kinds of fairies.

Tink’s other friends in these expansion stories are various talents, but not only is Silvermist water, she has a bit of borrowed fame from her voice actress, Lucy Liu (who has done some movies and is on a prime time show). So water fairies are shown doing things like putting dew drops on spider webs, making bubbles that can contain things and stuff like that.
I”m not expecting to see the character again because she really felt like a one-off, and they are doing only one season (if it survives).

I don’t think we’ll see her again either. I think her role was really to prepare us for the Knave’s background and his relationship with Anastasia and how that affected him.

Maybe Blu is an upstart!
