I think it’s to show which son is the favourite. Victor’s younger brother gets a family heirloom which has been handed down throughout the generations. Normally the eldest child gets the heirloom so to give it to Victor’s brother is basically a kick in the teeth to Victor. Victor being given a commission basically means he’s being sent away.

What exactly does purchasing a commission mean? I know when commissioning something, its pretty much giving the authority to go foward with something, approval… right? But obviously his dad is high ranking military, so why would he have to “purchase” a commission? Hope this part of the story has a point.
A commissioned officer means that you have a much higher rank in the army. Rather than having gone to a military school, as many did back in the old days, you were awarded a high ranking position from government or people in power. So, Gerhart earned his military position whereas Victor’s was granted his based on his families high status within society. So he would be in charge of a troop and made important decisions without any actual experience based on his high status.
I don’t know about anywhere else, but here in Canada as an example, one can only be an Officer if they’ve have a University Degree. They are considered to be commissioned soldiers and start at a much higher rank than others. If education is less than that, they are called non-commissioned soldiers and can only rank so far up.

I love Snow White and Prince Charming for how dedicated they are to each other, and how they have over come many obstacles and still be strong and supportive towards each other.
As for ships, everyone has a right to ship who they want. Personally, I’ve never really seen the Captain Swan ship happening–if it were to, it would have to be, the writers would really have to show them bonding in a way in which they would trust. Also, there is Henry to consider. Emma will never chose anyone over Henry. A parent always puts their child first.

Also, I seriously cannot help but find Captain Hook pretty easy to beat. Emma and Belle have both bested him numerous times. And most of time when he flirts with women, they looked more bored and unimpressed with him. And now with him beaten up and chained, it just makes him not much of a threat, except with how he managed to erase Belle’s memories.
I was thinking the same thing too, but Hook bested Emma and Belle too and I think he was trying to turn Rumple truly evil so Belle would leave him. That’s my take on it.
I do love Hook and Emma together. And have the most pity for both of them. They both had such a hard life.
I hope Hook continues to flirt with Emma because that’s the only way I think he can express his emotions to her. He can’t outwardly tell her how he feels. He has his own walls, I believe. Like Roger Sterling in Mad Man. He’s interesting. Notice how Hook wasn’t flirting with Belle, in my opinion, she was just business and hurting her was his only solution.
I really can’t wait for this episode. I feel it in my bones we find out the true character in each and every one of them.
Someone buy this person a drink. I want to hug you 😆 😆
And I don’t see what was so creepy about Hook’s flirting 😕 I may be biased, but it was more funny than gross, because even though he was in pain he still manages to be his cheeky self with Emma 😆
Sure it would be a little creepy if he was a complete stranger to Emma and said those things, but these two are no strangers to one another, and no one seemed to have a problem over the sword sex joke! 😆January 19, 2013 at 6:59 am #169067sarah_tnParticipantAgreed 100%. Besides, I still think Hook felt he had to look like a tough-guy in control in that moment even though inside, he was probably terrified and feeling very distraught. That was his pride talking, not any sincere desire for intercourse. I mean come on, he broke his ribs, all he’d want is to lay there, and for nobody to touch him! My Dad broke his ribs helping my sister move once. It hurt for him to breathe, much less move!
I like watching him flirt with her, but I hope we’ll see that become something more serious, and sincere in their conversation at some point in the future.

It’s undoubtedly to show which son is the favourite and which one is clearly not, but I remain suspicious about their choice of that particular heirloom, because they could have made it any number of things, but they made it a freaking pocket watch. A show about fairytales and storybooks, where they’ve already shown us Wonderland, and they make a pocket watch a significant heirloom to one of the families. A family where we’ve seen one of the members jump between worlds. And they show it being handed to a guy dressed in white. I’m just sayin’, suspicious. 😉
Like, maybe, their grandfather, the original owner of the pocket watch, was also a soldier and wore that same white uniform. And he was a jumper like Jefferson, but his tool was the watch, instead of the hat, and because he was dressed in white, that’s why he became known as the White Rabbit. And maybe Viktor has heard tales about it, may even be old enough to have seen it being used at some point, even if it hasn’t been used in years, and that’s what his reaction to it is about when he gets kinda wide eyed all, “I remember,” when he sees it. (Clearly I think too much about this show, but God help me, it’s fun. 😆 )

I personally thought his crack during the sword fight was hot, and it’s somewhat endearing that even when he’s beaten, broken and in a hospital bed, he’s still having a red hot go at flirting with her. Gotta give him points for persistence. 😆

True, Snow and Charming’s relationship is exemplary couple for the show. And it may be the love that everyone on the show wishes to strive for (Like Gold wanted to as he hinted in The Croc episode).
Yes, again, good point. I think both Hook and Emma would have to change. Hook becoming a hero and not an anti-hero and Emma being more open and accepting her role as the savior. It sort of reminds me of Jack and Kate’s relationship. Jack being Emma and Kate being Hook. Jack, in the end, had accept that destiny was involved and Kate needed to let go of her troublesome past. I think the writers wanted to make both Hook and Emma’s characters sooo complex because they wanted to develop them more as seasons progress. Snow and Charming is just what every couple on the show wants to strive to be. In my opinion, their character development is done.

I like hugs and drinks. 😉
And his cheeky self is why everyone loves him so much. Colin really is an amazing Hook.

I agree. This show tends to not be random. If he gave him that pocket watch, and the camera focused on it, and then on how Viktor reacted to it…it’s important. Either it will come into play just for Viktor (maybe he still carries it as a reminder of his brother and his attempt to bring him back) OR we just met the freaking White Rabbit (every time I watch that scene, I am struck that everyone is wearing black EXCEPT Gerherdt. And it’s not just because he is in his military uniform, so is the PapaFrakenstein, and it’s black). Has anyone seen SyFy’s miniseries “Alice?” In it, the White Rabbit is the name of the Queen’s military/spy organization. Their job is to abduct people from the “real” world and when he fails the QoH has him executed. Anyone know if Cora was spotted in the black and white land of the past???

He stands out like a freaking beacon in the otherwise grey and black room. There’s no way that was an accident.

Haven’t seen that show, thanks for posting the info. Wonder if Cora could be the reason that poor Gerhardt ends up such a mess…and in need of a replacement heart.
Viktor was working on bringing Gerhardt back to life around the time that Regina was starting to use magic, which was not long after Cora had been sent to Wonderland. Maybe the duties of the White Rabbit weren’t so perilous up until that point, but then on one of his trips, he ran into Cora who was in the process of asserting her power in Wonderland, and he got in her way and ended up coming home in bits and pieces that Viktor had to stitch back together.
