Why on earth would you drive past Portland international airport to Boston and then bother to take a plane to New York?

Sorry, Mainer here is getting annoyed at Mr. Gold’s travel planner 🙂Seriously, if you’re driving all that way already, just drive a few more hours to NYC and avoid the airport stress.
I’ve previously thought that perhaps they fixated on Boston just because this show was airing internationally, and they wanted to give the worldwide audience an instantly recognisable city name to latch onto, but here, they just say “Logan Airport”, so there’s that theory going out the window, (I probably wouldn’t have known where that airport was off the top of my head if I hadn’t been in it a couple of times).

It’s not some tiny small town operation! As a Mainer I sit around picking apart all the flaws in the uses of Maine on Once and Haven. I know it doesn’t matter but I find it so funny and get so OCD about it. Is this how people in NYC and LA and more common setting locations always feel :)?
Once is a great deal more accurate than Haven, though, so I’ll let it slide and call it Mr Gold’s lack of knowledge about the outside world.February 10, 2013 at 4:07 pm #172309gypsyParticipantI’ve previously thought that perhaps they fixated on Boston just because this show was airing internationally, and they wanted to give the worldwide audience an instantly recognisable city name to latch onto, but here, they just say “Logan Airport”, so there’s that theory going out the window, (I probably wouldn’t have known where that airport was off the top of my head if I hadn’t been in it a couple of times).
Don’t through your theory out yet.
In the very beginning of the clip, you can see it clearly says “Boston Regional” on the wall behind the ticket desk.I’ve wondered myself what was up with all the Boston connections.
Almost as if Boston was the only other place that existed besides Storybrooke.Emma came from Boston.
Ruby was supposed to go to Boston.
Katherine was going to Boston.
Ashley/Cinderella was going to Boston.
Nicholas and Eva – Hansel/Gretal were going to Boston.
Now they go Boston airport to go to NY…………February 10, 2013 at 4:26 pm #172311JosephineParticipantWe know they’re on the water, so maybe they’re clear down on the border between Maine and New Hampshire and for some reason the people of Storybrooke don’t know how to look north of the town on a map. 🙂
If this was real life, I’d say that it was cheaper to fly out of Boston. But then I’d say if you’re driving to Boston and doing a road trip drive on down to New York is worth the 4-5 extra hours of car time. Can you tell I don’t fly?
Sometimes it’s quicker just to drive. I live in Western PA and my mom used to have to fly out to the other side of the state for conferences sometimes, usually a four hour drive. One of the people she went with decided to drive. They left at the same time and the guy was waiting for them at the airport to pick them up. By the time they drove to the airport, checked their luggage, flew, got their luggage back, the guy had already made the trip. They drove after that. That was before 9/11, and I can’t imagine how much more time it would take now.
I would say that they use Boston not just for international audiences. The United States is a vast place to travel and Americans are sometimes sadly unfamiliar with geography outside their own region. I still have trouble deciding on map puzzles where Iowa and Nebraska go, but I can piece the East coast together in nothing flat. So if they mention Portland, people might not know exactly where it is, but most people, hopefully, know that Boston is in New England and north of New York.
I rambled way too much there.
