After watching the first 2 sneak peeks, my thoughts are that this is going to be a really good episode. In the first scene, it feels like David is finally becoming a better man by apologizing to Kathryn for cheating on her. Let’s hope it remains that way, and he’d better not fall for Regina’s attempt to seduce him. Also, Kathryn seems remarkably well-adjusted considering the trauma she must have just come out of. Could she have no recollection of what happened to her in the woods?
In the second clip, my first thought was how human and normal Rumpel’s voice sounds. He seems to have more of his humanity at this early stage. It is rather like Golem’s transition in Lord of the Rings. The longer he possessed the ring, the more the ring possessed him. I wonder if Rumpel becomes less human and more creature-like the longer he is the Dark One and the more power he gains. He was able to stop the Ogre War and save thousands of children, but acceding to Bae, Rumpel hurts people all the time. I wonder if Rumpel, in his quest for more and more power, concocts a potion which has the consequence of creating the vortex we saw in the third promo.

So much for my idea that Kathryn would remember fairytale land! Oh well.
Maybe she does but doesn’t know how to tell anyone.
I’d love to believe that theory, but I’m just sure if I’d believe it, given this scene. She seems far too composed, far too familiar with calling him David and talking about their marriage like she remembers it. So unless she’s working a split personality thing, I don’t think she could be Abigail.
Love the scene of Rumple and Bae. YAY for him having saved the children from war, just like he said he would. Was hoping that would happen. Wonder if that maid is gonna end up being anyone of significance, or if she was just there to show how they’ve moved up in the classes now. No longer poor, Rumple actually has a housemaid to help out. Wonder if he’s always had one, various girls coming and going over the centuries, right up until Belle.

Yes, he IS becoming a better man. Owning up to his mistakes, taking responsibility. This makes me positive that any attempt Regina makes to crack onto him will be doomed to fail. He’s not gonna make a similiar mistake again.

Usually sneak peeks come from the beginning of the episode, so I would not count Kathryn out yet. I am interested to see what happens when she meets Jim, the gym teacher, LOL. She is a prime candidate for remembering since her resolve in leaving was to find happiness. She just needs the right “trigger”. I am wondering if we will see that scene where Regina tells Rumple he “broke our deal” in this episode?
I agree that Rumpel seemed most “human” in this clip. I wonder what Bae sees that he doesn’t like. Perhaps the seduction of power — like the ring and Gollum in LOTR as slurpeez108 said. The scene starts with Bae saying he hurts people. Was that Ashley that came in the door with the food? So, Rumpel and Bae are connected somehow to Cinderella? Also, it looks as though their station in life has moved up a bit.
I wonder if they are showing that with the seduction of power comes the inability to always control the “price” incurred when using it? And I wonder if “losing” Bae doesn’t put Rumpel on the edge of his mental “rocker”, so to speak, and he beomes that more edgy person we have become so endeared to?
April 20, 2012 at 12:01 pm #142975hjbauParticipantIt seems to me that Rumpel threatens people just like the last Dark One threatened the parents of that girl they took so that Rumpel can show his power over them. Maybe that is how Bae hurts his leg. They are playing and something happens and then Rumpel goes crazy on them. Or maybe even someone attacks Bae because he is Rumpel’s son so Rumpel being the Dark One has actually made Bae less safe because people are after him.

I have a feeling Kathryn is faking in her scene with David. It was just a little too…perfect. I hope I’m wrong though. I’d love for David, MM and Kathryn to all be friends someday.
*Sigh* And Bae. Bae Bae Bae. OUAT writers, why must you always pull on my heart strings? 😥 I agree with the theory that maybe Rumpel’s quest for more power ends up getting him punished in the form of him losing Bae. That’s probably why he’s always saying “All magic comes with a preice.”
But I’m still curious about what that green vortex is. I can’t help but think it’s either Oz or Neverland.
And is it just me, or did Bae seem errily like…like…August? I don’t know. He’s just really reminded me of August in that clip.

I find it very interesting that Bae feels less safe now that his father is the new Dark One. You’d think with all that power that he’d feel more secure.
And I agree that he was probably attacked by some of Rumpel’s enemies. However, I have a feeling the fairies had something to do with it. I doubt normal human beings would ever dare to attack Rumpel. And even if they did, they would go down as quickly as Gaston did. So, Bae was probably attacked by the fairies. Maybe they were aiming for Rumpel but hit Bae on accident.
I think it’s the fairies that Rumpel is trying to protect Bae from. That’s why he feels he needs more power. But in the end, he probably fails. But I don’t think the fairies harmed Bae, they probably just sent him to another world. Neverland and Oz seem to the be the most popular theories.
And back to the wound on Bae’s leg. If it was caused by a Fairy, then that means there’s a chance that it could have carry over into Storybrooke. A magical wound may not be able to heal normally like a regular wound. And if that’s the case, ENTER: AUGUST. 😉

Nope, it’s a separate character, from memory she’s credited as “mute maid”.

I could see other kids bullying Bae coz his dad’s a freak. Kids probably wouldn’t think of the potential danger of picking on the Dark One’s son like an adult might.
We don’t know what his reputation is at this point in time though. Maybe he’s considered somewhat of a hero by most people for saving the children from the war. Even if people know he’s the new Dark One, so far he appears to be using the power to do good instead of evil. Maybe it’s only Bae who’s really seen his dark side so far. And if that’s compounded by other kids giving him a hard time, I can see why that would all fuel his desire to rid his father of the curse.

I think that’s right. I remember Robert Carlyle saying in an interview that this episode takes places like 7 months after Desperate Souls, so Rumple hasn’t totally ‘lost’ his soul yet. That’s why he still has those human qualities.
