If Tinkerbell saved Regina from suicide, a strong bond could easily be formed between them. Failing to bring Daniel back was not enough to send Regina in to darkness on its own.
Hmm. But it wasn’t just failing to bring him back. Up until that point, she retained some small bit of hope that she OR Rumple OR Frankie could bring him back. When all solutions are tried and failed (Jefferson says, “if he [Frankie] can’t bring him back, no one can) then it’s not only that she can’t bring back Daniel, it’s that she has to accept that he’s really. So long as magic was an option (in her mind) then she never really thought she lost him. She enchanted his body with a spell believing that someday she–or someone else–would be able to bring back Daniel. So what we see in The Doctor isn’t just her failing to bring back Daniel but her full acceptance that she really had lost her soul mate.
I know it sounds like semantics. I’m just not sure if Tword wise it would work that way.

Well who was to say it was short notice? Maybe he had multiple students? We know he was looking for other ways to get to our world without the Curse–so maybe he had a few students on hand in case Regina didn’t work out but when Regina took the Gypsy’s heart, he realized she was ready and he never bothered with them again.

He also doesn’t seem to be the type of guy to be a) sociable and B) the type to teach someone magic unless doing so benefitted Rumple in return. Teaching Regina magic definitely benefitted Rumple. Also Rumple has been burned before by teaching someone magic (Cora), he’s not stupid enough to teach a load of random people magic, especially as they might try and use that magic against him.

he was teaching some other woman magic before Regina killed her. Wonder what’s up with that

No I agree that I’m stretching here. It just seems like the Frankie/Daniel thing was really only a day or two. Regina met Frankie and Jefferson at night, took them to Cora’s to get a heart, Frankie did his thing very late at night, Regina was devastated, Frankie and Jefferson go back to LWC the next morning, Regina puts on the black as the EQ for the first time.
I guess this episode could fall in between pushing Cora through the mirror and learning from Rumple. Once she starts learning from Rumple her clothes become more brownish, signaling her transition into darkness. But she’s in pure white here. Which we’ve only seen once before. *rubs head* This episode hurts the Tword already.

I think the gypsy girl was a “Look how easily I can replace you” dig against Regina. Rumple wasn’t bothered when Regina killed her.

I think you may be right. We did get the scene between Rumple, Whale and Jefferson, where Rumple was happy that he had made his “monster”. Whale wouldn’t hangout in FTL longer than was necessary.
Perhaps Regina didn’t immediately start learning magic from Rumple.

I think that has to be true. She didn’t want to learn magic at first because of how it made her feel. I think she probably resisted. Maybe whatever happened with Tink is what pushes her to Rumple. Oh man, if Blue banished Tink then Sneaky Fairy is Sneaky to the extreme.
