I keep rewatching that sneak peek looking for Rumple with a torch, and I don’t see it. I get the feeling the only Rumple we see in this episode is in the past when he transforms Regina into the hag. And one glimpse of him in SB with Lacey.
Ok, try this link it is the No More Happy Endings clip right before you call out the dogs you see Gold in the same place before Regina shows up with her guard.

I just posted an interview that Lana Parrilla gave in anticipation of this week’s episode. She drops some hints like Regina plans to take Hook along with her and Henry to the EF! EvilHook lives (at least in my own mind)! 😀

It is really unlikely that it came from Malificent, since Regina said that her punishment was different from everyone else’s. It seems if Malificent would have put anything in the curse that might have benefited her that Regina caught it.
Rumple, I can only see him wanting a fail safe for two reasons, because Bae has gone to another realm or has died. But Regina didn’t know why Rumple wanted her to create the curse. He told her to figure it out. So I doubt that there was a Baelfire clause in there at all.
Rumple asked Regina for the “please clause” and she agreed to it…so that proves to me that she was capable of altering the curse. So I think that the failsafe is Regina’s doing in case it was her last chance to (literally) destroy the happiness of Mary Margaret and David, although I think that she would prefer watching them suffer if at all possible. Going into this curse she didn’t think that there would be any magic besides what she had brought, and she knew about Jefferson’s hat. I wholeheartedly agree with those who said that the failsafe is Regina leaves. Eventually even an Evil Queen could get tired of revenge.
April 26, 2013 at 8:06 pm #188988RumplesGirlKeymasterVery well reasoned out, and I’m inclined to agree. Rumple wrote (discovered? I don’t know, the full nature of Rumple and the Curse has yet to be given) the bare bones of the Curse but Regina filled in all the blanks.
I just don’t know if I agree with the fail safe being Regina leaving, the more I think about this. A and E have hinted that Regina may have left town during the Curse years, because the barrier didn’t affect her that way it did the others.

I was saying (and I didn’t explain it quite right) that if she jumped to another realm the fail safe would activate.
I have toyed around with the idea of it being other things. But it almost has to be tied to her leaving otherwise it could backfire on her and she would die as well, or if you are right(and I think that you are) that she could leave Storybrooke, at the very least be stuck in the real world by herself.
April 26, 2013 at 8:21 pm #188995SlurpeezParticipantI don’t think Regina even knew how to kick-start the curse on her own, let alone alter it. She depended entirely on Rumple to create the curse “for her” and to learn how to cast it. In 1×2, Rumple rather impatiently told her to “stop wasting everybody’s time” and just cut out the heart of the thing (person) she loved most. If Regina couldn’t figure that one out for herself, how on earth could she be counted on to change the actual DNA of the curse? She’s smart, but not as cunning as the Master of Magic himself.
Plus, if Regina had known about this fail-safe all along, why didn’t she simply activate it before Emma ever broke the curse? Adam and Eddy have confirmed that since Regina was never cursed herself, she could’ve crossed the town line at any point. So, she could have activated the fail-safe, taken Henry and crossed the town boarder before Emma even had the chance to break the curse. Instead, Regina was all panicked and coming to Mr. Gold about why her apple tree was dying and why the curse was weakening. She had no clue about the intricacies of the curse. She actually believed Mr. Gold when he told her killing Emma would break the curse, prompting Regina instead to retrieve her poison apple, which we all know ultimately led Emma to break the curse by kissing Henry. Regina doesn’t strike me as being very in the know about how the curse would actually work. So, again, Mr. Gold was one step ahead of Regina, and she was left in the dark, and she completely fell for his scheming. She was shocked that Mr. Gold even wanted the curse broken.
Mr. Gold is the author of the dark curse and ultimate puppet master of people and events. He’s the one who put a drop of True Love potion on the parchment which the curse was written on to create a “safety valve” that Emma was the savior. I believe he’s the one who added a “self-destruct” button into the very fabric of the curse. Despite not knowing about Rumple’s motives for casting the curse, there might be some little tidbit in the wording of the curse that has since tipped her off in the present day, but I doubt she added that part about a “fail-safe” herself.

April 26, 2013 at 8:28 pm #189000RumplesGirlKeymasterOk, everyone needs to stop making such well reasoned arguments so I can make up my mind. 😆 😆 😆
I am totally conflicted on this. Regina did alter whatever she intended for Rumple with the “please” clause and gave him an estate. She also promised Jefferson she would write him and Grace a new story for them if Emma died after eating the apple.
But this is Rumple’s Curse. He engineered it knowing all about Emma and when she would arrive and what the final outcome would be.**EDIT**
But is this Rumple’s Curse? He engineered it, added the stop valve. But the Curse was already in existence back when he lost Bae because the Blue Fairy (in)advertently led him to it. What if all Rumple did was add the True Love potion part of it? What if the Curse, pre-Rumple, had the Fail Safe already built in?
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"April 26, 2013 at 8:53 pm #189008PriceofMagicParticipantI think Rumple had to create the curse himself. He only knew that “a curse” would get him to the land without magic, not what the curse would be.
All magic comes with a price!

Maybe it’s my deep suspicion of the BF but the way she reacted when he guessed a Curse makes me thing that the Curse was already out there in the world, but it needed to be..I don’t know..fine tuned? by Rumple.
Rumpelstiltskin: A curse?
Blue Fairy: No.
Rumpelstiltskin: Ah! So, it is a curse.
Blue Fairy: Of course you would think of a curse instead of a blessing. Your magic is limited by its own rotten core, Rumpelstiltskin. Anyway, it can’t be done. Not without a great price.
Rumpelstiltskin: I’ve already paid a great price.
Blue Fairy: So, you’d be willing to sacrifice this world for the next? Because that’s how great the price is.
