You don’t die for good from a sleeping curse, though. Henry flat lining was the sleeping curse taking full effect. That’s how I took it at least. So yes he was in a state of death, but he was essentially in limbo
It is my understanding that he did die, because Regina said she didn’t know what would happen because magic is different there and unpredictable…after Emma said, “what’s gonna happen to him!?!?” That led me to believe she didn’t know what would happen but that there was a possibility of him dying.

You don’t die in FTL. We were in a land still without magic.

Let us recall in Sleeping Beauty, Maleficent planned to release Phillip after 100 years to awaken Aurora from the sleep. One can assume that the magic would have kept her alive and sustained for all those years and I assume the same is with the sleeping curse. I think the curse, in FTL, kills the victim without killing them. It takes away their consciousness, and the body is left a hollow shell “sleeping” while the magic sustained it.
In our land, I think the sleeping curse made him fall asleep but could not sustain him since there is no magic on our land and thus he started to die. Afterwards, after magic was released. charming wad okay when he went under the curse.

Either way, let’s just say this is yet another case where the writing wasn’t clear enough.

I think the simplest answer is the correct one. For the general audience, flat line=death. They sure made it appear like he died, so I have to believe that is what they were trying to communicate with the audience; it was clear, because one moment they’re sad enough that he is in a sleeping curse… the next moment they’re devastated because he is actually dead.
I think because he died from magic, a curse, the kiss worked. Death was the consequence of the curse. The curse itself was broken, bringing henry back to life.Keeper Nealfire's/Bae's scarf, Henry and Neal's bribery ice cream sundae, Baelfire's sword, the coconut map, and more.

While I agree that the writing might not be clear in some cases, the *visual* aid here is. He flat lined. In our world, this land without magic where the Evil Queen doesn’t know what will actually happen to Henry, that’s dead.

Yup. And I know I’m broken record by there is a reason why Emma is called “the Savior” and not something less religiously charged. Yes it informs her own character journey (Emma will die at some point, I fully believe that) but it also helps us understand what her role is to the others. In media (like TV) the Savior archetype or Messianic archetype is an echo of Christ. And part of that is the idea of resurrection because of love.
And I’m totally not trying to force Christian belief on anyone (I’m not a big believer) but if you want a Biblical parallel here:
Death is a consequence of sin (the Curse that broke happy endings) that was only overturned by an act of pure love, ie: Jesus Sacrifice (Emma’s TLK) which will, in the end times, result in resurrection of the deserving (Henry wakes up)
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"April 5, 2014 at 3:58 pm #259288CrownedWithLaurelsParticipantAnd even further on the spiritual level, our SB friends didn’t know who they were (Children of God, not just slaves to religion and sin- a big theme in the New Testament) and were awakened to their true identity because of the Savior instead of a slave to the lie that they are bound to identities that just caused pain.
There are deep elements here woven into her role and identity … Even though it seems lately it hasn’t been alluded to very much.

April 5, 2014 at 5:43 pm #259307once_dudeParticipantI think here is a good place to insert the White Rabbit’s quote:
“Wonderland is more than finding love, it is finding yourself.”
That was what this show was originally to me, however with a certain character assassination and death (I’m looking at you Neal) it seems to be getting darker and ddarker.
Magic always comes with a price, so I pay with visa.
