Well said Watcher! Regina is essentially Emma’s step-grandmother hence why I don’t support SQ as a romantic pairing.
This is kind of nonsensical though and some of the canon pairings already cross these boundaries, like Hook having been with Henry’s grandmother, etc. they’re not blood related and while that doesn’t rule them out being “Family” in a sense they don’t have a relationship like that at all. For a “Step” family relationship they actually have to grow up with them and that didn’t happen with Emma. She never had a relationship like that with Regina, so the step part is effectively irrelevant.

It is not “nonsensical” and the step part is not “irrelevant”. It’s akin to pairing an older Henry with Belle. “They’re not blood related”.
Let’s use the Example of Hook.
Some people don’t like CS because Hook was with Henry’s grandmother and is now with Henry’s mother. It’s a valid reason, there’s nothing “nonsensical” about that. Some people don’t mind it.
Ship and let Ship.

Keeper of FelixSeptember 10, 2014 at 11:50 am #281933MyrilParticipantI would like to see FrankenWolf play out and that was the original plan for Ruby so I don’t think they would necessarily put her into a same-sex relationship.
Do you have that as word from the writers in interviews or as outspoken statement on the show? Or is more head canon of fans? Is it more fan speculation, assumption based on a few minutes of one episode, where Red and Frankenstein had a sensible talk about that maybe for them the curse had upsides even, and on Frankenstein harassing her while under the curse?
I respect, that you wish for FrankenWolf, though I didn’t see a compelling romantic chemistry between those two. What I saw was a hint of understanding of the peculiar situation of the other, a possible friendship but not necessarily a romantic interest. That Frankenstein found and maybe still finds Ruby sexy (well, he was portrayed as womanizer under the curse) doesn’t mean there is romantic interest. I am not saying they couldn’t develop something at all, but there is so far nothing decided. And whatever the original plan, a TV show is work in progress and things can change, even if not always into a direction we prefer.
You sound like Frankenwolf is a done deal, that is how you see what happened on the show, but I didn’t see those scenes that way. Regardless if they’ll put Red in queer relationship, I don’t see her with Frankestein at all. Frankenstein is full of self-pity and it’s mixed with some hubris, I would advice anyone to stay away from him, until he maybe has grown up. I prefer Red as single if the only choice would be Frankenstein.
So aside that you prefer a certain relationship, is there anything in the character that speaks against Red being a candidate for a queer relationship? Is there something that stands against Mulan and Red feeling more than friendship if they meet, some incompatibility in these two characters?
¯\_(?????? ?)_/¯
September 10, 2014 at 12:03 pm #281936PheeParticipantThey tested the waters with her and Aurora and it was met with positivity as far as I am aware. They can’t just go back and act like that never happened. They have to finish what they started.
Ah if only it were that simple, but alas they don’t have to do anything more with it if they can’t be bothered, (also there are still people who think Mulan was talking about loving Philip not Aurora, so there wasn’t blanket acceptance of Mulan’s sexual orientation from the fandom) and these writers do tend to skim over things and sweep things under the rug and just generally not give things – be they plot points or emotional reactions – their proper due.
It’d make perfect sense for them to bring back Mulan and give her a girlfriend, (Jamie Chung’s imdb page doesn’t list anything in pre-production that would be tying her up). RG suggested Red and Merida, but Merida could easily be paired up with Mulan. They’re both adventurous, headstrong, warrior types so it’d be quite easy for them to meet in the middle of a quest or battle somewhere and be attracted to each other.
But just like with Red, I’m not holding my breath in anticipation of Mulan showing up again any time soon. Maybe they could work her into 4B if Maleficent will be back and potentially posing a threat to Aurora in present day. You’d expect Mulan to show up to protect her, requited love or not.

They had a Frankenwolf fanart stuck on the wall in the writers’ room. If memory serves it was Adam tweeting about that that kicked off the Fanart Friday thing where they choose a new fanart to add to their wall. It’d be odd for them to have a Frankenwolf art on their wall if they hadn’t been thinking of exploring that storyline.

I thought Adam did say that the scene between Ruby and Whale in 212 was meant to be a set up for FrankenWolf but then they got the rights to Neverland and Ruby unintentionally became sidelined so Meghan Ory was released from her contract and FrankenWolf didn’t happen like they originally planned?

I always had the impression that Ruby was a “maneater” but whether or not the curse would change someone’s sexuality, I don’t know. Red had a relationship with Peter, that’s the only real indicator I can think of that may suggest she’s not queer, but even then that doesn’t necessarily mean anything as some people do engage in heterosexual relationships before coming out such as Willow in Buffy the vampire slayer.
I just think if they were going to make Red LGBT, then they would have at least hinted at it since we’ve seen a lot more of Red than we have Archie, and she has a closer relationship to the main characters than Archie. For example, they hinted at Mulan being LGBT in season 2 before all but confirming it in 3A. Archie is a real possibility because we haven’t really seen him outside of his professional role, but Red….I just think if they were aiming in that direction, there would be some sort of foreshadowing, though that is not to say that they couldn’t take Red in that sort of direction.
Tinkerbell would be an interesting candidate because we’ve not seen enough of her in Storybrooke and in Neverland, she was surrounded by Peter Pan and the Lost boys. It was suggested that something happened between her and Hook but that may have just been a one night stand “any port in a storm” kind of thing.

Whether or not A and E said that FrankenWolf was a originally planned, I can’t recall. Phee is correct that the FW pic started #FanArtFriday about a year ago. If you take the graphic novel as canon then it appears they were going to go with a Red/Graham pairing in the past.

But the important difference is, SQ is seen as a crack ship whereas CS is not.
Hell if two siblings love each other enough I’ve nothing against that in theory as long as they don’t reproduce, even if it’s kind of weird to me personally. I don’t object to CS on those grounds anyway, rather the whole No means yes thing I’ve already posted about. I don’t think Emma/Regina’s relation would really draw that much ire from anyone as most people have probably forgotten it already. It only comes up as an anti-SQ talking point. Ever.

Hold up – I’m going to use that word again. Heteronormativity. They would not necessarily have hinted at it. The writers obviously don’t plan anything in advance. As originally concieved, in S1, not a single person in the OUAT cast was queer. Which should raise some serious questions.

Part of my problem with the writers – they’ve had all sorts of ship fanart up there, but only ever het ones. Very troubling.

September 10, 2014 at 12:34 pm #281947Crystal PrincessParticipantI wish they hadn’t killed Zelena now. ZelenaXGlinda could have worked pretty well. I hope they bring her back, I wanted to see her being redeemed. Felt like a waste of a character, getting rid of her to make room for Frozen.
