Re: other pairs. Well, I want them to get the heck out of Disney already. I adore Disney but there are so many other myths and stories we could be doing. I’d love to see them adapt something from Norse mythology or Native American mythology and put their spin on it. What if we had two Valkyries who were together?
And unfortunately when they have tried steering away from Disney and fantasy as a whole, it wasn’t too well received. For example, there were plenty who were disappointed in Dr. Whale being Victor Frankenstein and how that story was handled. And even when they tried to adapt a fairy tale, but completely stay away from the Disney adaptation, it backfired. I’m of course talking about how they handled Rapunzel’s story in “The Tower.” Had they taken enough elements from Tangled (Flynn Ryder instead of Charming, Mother Gothel, etc), it might have been better received and even better written than what we got. Changing Rapunzel’s race is a discussion in itself, but I think it still could have worked had they have done what I suggested. I think because the show started out as Disney the Fanfic by using Disney specific character names and even plot elements, it’s been hard to get the audience to accept whenever they steer away from it. Aside from the Rapunzel story just being a mess on its own, it was confusing for the audience to go from the trend of borrowing Disney elements for all other fairy tale characters, but not Rapunzel. To plenty of viewers, the idea of crossing over Disney and other fantasy lore was the appeal that got them into watching the show to begin with. It’s probably why we’re getting the Frozen characters in a manner that is faithful to the movie.
To get back on topic, this is essentially why the writers have been weary about separating Disney canon couples. The closest we got was Rumbelle, but they wrote around that by making “Beast” Rumple’s nickname and sharing enough of his traits. Of course you could also say Mulan is the closest they got from breaking Disney canon couples, due to her implied homosexuality, but as it currently stands she has yet to end up with anyone. And even when a couple didn’t get together in the traditional story like Ariel and Eric, they still opted to keep them together to appease the general audience who grew up on Disney pop culture. Maybe had the show not opted to use Disney names and themes specific to their adaptations in the first place, the show would have been able to get away with the suggest deviations from Disney culture, but it’s too little too late.

I recognize TV is a business so reception is everything but that doesn’t mean that they can’t try. You have to sell it to your audience. A lot of that is just poor writing.

They could have done so much with that plotline, I’m so mad. I know it’s getting OT, but can anyone think of a way to maybe bring it in line with the original? I guess she could still be locked up for her hair, but it’s not quite the same if she doesn’t have the history of growing up in a tower thing.
A female Flynn Rider would be really interesting. Also, the original Rapunzel was more badass than people remember since she actually took an active role in her escape. Tangled actually got some stuff closer to the original tale than people realise.

I’m kind of okay on some levels with OUAT being a Live Action Didney Crossover thing but it’s blatantly not what they’re going for in it’s entirety. I got annoyed at Lana for the first time in my life(didn’t think it was possible) when people asked her what fairy tale characters they could add and she was all “Who HAVEN’t we had? Humpty Dumpty? Humpty Dumpty is coming!” it was an amusing aside but there are so many things they could use. If they wanted to keep recognisable, they could use stuff like Swan Lake or the Nutcracker. I think they’re afraid to do adaptions of Fairy Tales that Disney might have planned, and that might be tying their hands.
Don’t forget though Red isn’t Disney stock really at all and she’s one of the best characters on the show.

I apologize if u felt offended by the point I made, but it is a valid point. We don’t know and won’t know unless we see it. I wasn’t saying be gay is like being a zoophile, I was saying Regina could be gay and she could be into a bunch of other things, zoophilia including, and even gave a potential sign of that with her loving relationship with her steed. If you found that offensive, sure, I apologize, but still. Point was, if we never see it, we will never know. The possibilities are endless if we are going by what we aren’t seeing rather than what we are.

Rapunzel was basically ONCE trying to silence their critics about race and only proving them right. Whether or not she’ll ever come back is under the umbrella of “who knows?” I kinda doubt it.

And utterly ignored to the point where Meghan Ory had to leave to find work.

Comparing homosexuality to zoophilia in any way is insulting, please don’t do it. “A potential sign of that with her loving relationship with her steed”. Urrrrghhh. No, you’re just mocking us now. Stop with the slippery slope fallacy/false equivalences, please. And don’t apologise for other people “feeling offended”, apologise for your part in hurting them.

Is that true though? She seemed pretty happy to be back. I guess the writers realised she was a big part of what made the show work. We’re supposed to be getting a lot more of her in S4?
You know what they need to change the main cast. Still have all the Swan Mills whatever stuff happening in the background, but have them tied up in less active stuff. Make the show about Tink, Ariel, Ruby and Mulan having awesome adventures.
I just realised there aren’t many guys I like on OUAT, lol. I used to like Hook but he was too creepy in S3P2 IMO.
