To Arendelle! We got the arrival of Elsa to Storybrook (Who didn’t appear as Sisterly and Loving as in Frozen) at the end of the episode, which seems to imply we will be visiting (Or at least seeing) Arendelle in 4A.
Thoughts? Most of us thought Camelot, and Kitsis/Horowitz seemed eager to tackle the idea of Frozen. So, here we go! Attached is a picture form the scene.
Thoughts on who’ll play her?

May 12, 2014 at 12:12 am #268651AmdillaeParticipantI must say that as much as I like Frozen, I am looking forward to seeing Elsa as the villain (since I have read that was the original concept for Frozen). I am picturing Arrendelle flashback/s with visits to Rumple rather than the trolls and chaos kicking off from there. I am also interested to see how they could work Anna into this scenario.
Oh and Pan, interesting theory about Narnia, but I am no sure about adding Narnia to the chaos, as the wardrobe entry would seem to open some problems with the no travel between our world and a magical one (and there CAN NOT be a third version of England for the wardrobe to be in).

C’mon folks…Regina has seven uncles, surely one of them is Elsa’s father. Plus they’re around the same age….
But I think Elsa will be a villain to an extent. I think Adam and Eddy will go with the first draft of Frozen where Elsa was the villain, until a handsome stranger came around and melted her icy heart.

Time to hide your crazy, and start acting like a lady.

On one hand – yay, visually cool and interesting character on OUAT, potentially unrelated to the Swanmillsing family.
On the other, it’s pretty gratuitous.
Pretty much the only reason to use Elsa so soon after Frozen is that if they can build on what Frozen did.
So I’m looking forward to a chance to expand her character in ways the movie didn’t go into.
I really really really think they need to make Elsa gay. A huge part of the fandom read the character that way, her story was obviously touching on a queer narrative, and they specifically hired a VA known for her association with the LGBT community and playing queer characters like Maureen and (to a lesser extent) Elphaba. Whether people accept it or not, the whole Swan Queen movement makes up a HUGE part of the fandom and it would be wrong-headed to think that throwing in another random queer romance would do in place of a very specific one, it would be look very bad to shoot down that ship and THEN introduce a character with lesbian subtext and while not straightwash her since Elsa has no canon orientation, have her be yet another straight, white woman. Of course having her a villain would make her less than ideal representation, but we don’t even know if that’s the case yet, and there’s no way in hell they’re going to make Elsa unsympathetic.
I also dislike the “why can’t she be a strong independent woman” line because that doesn’t seem to fly as a defense against the het romances. Why not have another character be a strong independent woman, not one that has a HUGE queer following? If anything as much as I love Swan Queen I wouldn’t mind Emma and Regina remaining single.
I also think they should hire a Saami actress, but that’s probably not practical. What IS practical, since this is Canada, is hiring an Inuit actress.
Once has a really good shot at taking a potential money grab and turning it into something worthwhile here. It’s a chance to make the currently most visible member of the Disney Princess line-up queer and “get away with it”.
As for potential pairings, I’m gonna go with

May 12, 2014 at 1:04 am #268677Crystal PrincessParticipantlike tbh I feel like if they don’t, it would be giving the middle finger to OUAT’s sizeable queer fanbase and nothing anyone says now is going to change that. unless they have another queer romance on the cards, like wolfairy. but still.

Indeed, seldom used as argument against het romance, although, think I did once in a while, might have been even in connection with Emma. I am tired of women being whole only when they find their true love white knight, while for the white knights it’s their reward for being an accomplished guy, more the icing on top of finding a good life. And even less like it when finding true love is kinda used to put women into the “right” place, home, family, kitchen, kids, and that’s it, they’re reduced to it then. Yeah, great, with postfeminism it now has become a choice to stay there, ignoring how societal structures still make it a lot harder and close to impossible for women to be seen beyond (well, sorry, still more of an old fashioned feminist, so to speak, I see not much of a choice but plenty of societal constraints and restraining images).
Just to make that clear: strong never means having no weaknesses, flaws, struggle with things, it means interesting character, a character standing on its own and not just as an appendix to some other character. They’re trying with Emma, not always successful, but find it interesting, how people react to Emma. Prove to me that we still have to go a long way to overcome some images in all our heads.
So, strong female character doesn’t mean no romance, just doesn’t make romance all that she is about. It’s hilarious when people come with the strong, independent women trope any time when a woman might threaten masculinity and heteronormativity not just by being independent but maybe even by being attracted to women, and winning them. If a woman can do her own (sword) fights and doesn’t need a guy for pleasure either, that is scary.
Just hoping they’re not doing another whiny female big bad, because, Regina, Zelena – we had that, enough of it. Cora was a lot more intriguing as big bad until they decide to soften her and she became wishy-washy and her character development finally incoherent in this season. Time for a fiery cold female big bad. I could already sympathize with her when she simply calls out the main characters for their crap and foolishness, Rumple, Regina, Snow even Emma, they all are ignorant in some ways and too busy with themselves and their families to see how what they do does effect “bystanders”. No need for another sob story.
edit: One thing the TPTB (The Powers that Be, aka show runners, writers) did just with this last scene and tease for the new big bad: they got me intrigued again. My head is exploding with ideas for story, which I better should tune down, it’s so easy to get disappointed, particular on this show.¯\_(?????? ?)_/¯

I think they are going to make her pretty Disney-movie-ish. She’s got the gloves, the white hair, the dress (which was like an exact replica of her Let it Go dress), the side braid, and even the sash-y walk. I seriously expected her to slam those barn doors with her wave of her hand.
I’m not sure how I feel about it. I don’t want Elsa to be a villain because she’s not in Frozen either (and yeah yeah yeah I know: OUAT twists things).
