I’m really surprised that they introduced her on the show this way. The whole scene felt like something we should have gotten at Comic-con.
So now that we know we’re getting Elsa next season, I’m guessing the comic-con reveal clip will be of Anna.

Maybe it is more complicate. Just struck me, that I, we shouldn’t so eagerly assume that she is the big bad. I mean, she probably is the antagonist of the next season, or half of it, but as well we know, Regina has a reason for another big beef with Emma now, who destroyed her happy ending though without any intent (like mother like daughter), and Rumple betrayed in my view very much Belle, lied to everybody and I bet he is cooking something. Who the villain is can be a matter of view – which would be very fitting as story considering the movie character and that TPTB always insist evil is not born but made.

Pretty much the only reason to use Elsa so soon after Frozen is that if they can build on what Frozen did.
I’ve never seen Frozen, and while I can easily change that, I think it’s a mistake for OUAT to use a character that hasn’t stood the test of time. When OUAT has done its own take on story characters, the characters have already been part of our culture even apart from the movies and stories that made them popular. Frozen doesn’t have that broad appeal. Sadly, I think this suggests that the show has switched tracks from “Let’s attract new viewers” to “Let’s drag this out for as long as we can”.

Elsa herself is a twist on a character who has been part of our (pop-) culture for a while. They could very well pick up ideas from Anderson’s fairy tale to add.
Disagree that Frozen has not such a broad appeal, compared to who, Peter Pan, The Wicked Witch of the West, Snow White? Frozen is now the highest grossing animated full feature movie, it is in the top 10 of the highest grossing movies (not just animated) of all time. Frozen merchandise is selling great (they even have a shortage problem at the moment). Yes, it’s new, but it has a huge impact. Agreed is a higher risk to use a character that wasn’t already rewritten and parodied multiple times and for years because you’re one of the first to take a different look at it. People might cling too much to the character they met in the movie, but, well, seeing how people reacted to characters and twists on the show so far, think that always is happening, some people can’t let it go.
I don’t understand, why this should mean a change in the show’s policy from attracting new audience to drag out as long as they can. For one, don’t think that it was before all about attracting new viewers. For running show it is always as important if not even more important to keep viewers. And most showrunners have an interest to tell a story as long as they can and can come up with something (good), it’s business, they make a living with it.
Frozen is very attractive to (younger) women, besides that Elsa has gained some interest in the queer community. She is an interesting new character in the Disney Worlds, besides Merida, she is a female protagonist, something still rather underrepresented on screen. Of course she is of interest for OUaT.
The only worries I have at this point: Given the sometimes mediocre and even weak writing, and particular if it comes to character development, of the past two seasons, I am not so sure, if I want to entrust these writers with this character, it might not do Elsa that much good. The show can only win, but the character could lose.
Bringing in now Frozen has rekindled my interest in the show. I find that more intriguing than doing the umpteenth version of Camelot or 1001 Nights, Sindbad, Ali Baba, whatever. The only thing that would maybe get me even more interested again is discovering and exploring (fairy) tales from other cultures, become more diverse in characters and story resources. Otherwise the show would go on tracking only well trodden roads, boring.

But I think it’s more likely she’s going to be after Rumple specifically, for revenge or something, since I can’t see ouat turning such a beloved character into an outright villain. I just hope they don’t treat Elsa the same way they treated Zelena, plus I hope Anna’s alive (and not the reason Elsa wants to get Rumple!).
But I cannot bloody wait to see next season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And thus begins my solo performance of ‘I’m so excited’ by the Pointer Sisters…

"there’s lesbians in it"May 12, 2014 at 9:00 am #268796PanTheManParticipantRumple said, “My vault is for the darkest of magic that even i don’t often understand.” Something along those lines.
So I’m thinking Elsa will be a villain. I could possibly see her being like King Midas, where her touch causes more trouble than she means for it to.
I could also see them combining Elsa and the White Witch from Narnia. I really hope they do this and we go to Narnia next!
May 12, 2014 at 9:32 am #2688153princessesParticipantI’m excited about Elsa, but nervous at the same time. I’m hoping they don’t twist the story too much mostly for the sake of my daughters. Elsa & Anna are their favorites besides Ariel. They loved Joanna Garcia-Swisher as Ariel & that whole story line. I hope they can do something similar with Elsa.
My thoughts are that the events in the movie, Frozen, happen in flashbacks & we see how she got in the jar. Maybe she’s forgotten how to love and so she’s lost control of her powers. Emma, Snow, and Charming can help her remember what true love is.
I hope we get to see Anna too! She’s my favorite!

Combining it could also explain why Rumple would locked her up. In the books Jadis created a spell which was able to destroy her entire homeworld Charn and killed everyone inside of it except of herself just because she was loosing the fight against her sister for the throne of Charn.

I’m a huge fan of the novels and the films, so I’ve been following the rights pretty closely since Dawn Treader came out. Disney doesn’t have the rights (which they gave up after Prince Caspian, hence why Fox made Voyage of the Dawn Treader), and they’re not for sale these days – there was a couple-year period after Fox gave them up that no one could touch them, but it’s over and Douglas Gresham’s working on getting The Silver Chair going somewhere. There’s no studio yet, just a production company (the Mark Gordon Company, or something like that), but given PC’s disappointing box office, I wouldn’t expect Silver Chair and, thus, the Narnia rights, to go back to Disney.
Personally, I didn’t really like Frozen all that much, so I hope there’s more of the Andersen story in the show than there was in the film. I know there’s virtually no chance of it being MOSTLY Andersen over Frozen (though in my honest opinion, popularity or not, it should be because this is a show about fairytales and storybook characters not Disney movies but I seem to be in the minority in believing that since so many people seem to want every Disney character ever just because. I’d be pretty annoyed, at least briefly, if Merida showed up (as an example), to be honest), but I hope they at least go into the fairytale a bit.
As such, I’d like to see her as a villain, yes, and played by Natalie Dormer, but I wouldn’t be opposed to a Frozen-esque redemptive arc for her as it’s probably a given. The Wicked Witch can get stabbed to death and die unredeemed, but not the darling of little girls everywhere.
Keeper of Zelena's witch hat and the Black Fairy's wand.

I’m with you. It’s not that I don’t like Disney, but I would really wish to see more of the original stories. And the Snow Queen Andersen wrote about would be a perfect villain. (I remember that I was really afraid of her as a kid, more than I was of the Evil Queen or Rumplestiltskin. Everytime after reading when I had something in my eye, like dust, I really thought my heart and my feelings would freeze and I would start to be evil… lol).
