Wow…I frequently Google the show for updates, and sometimes it amazes me how negative people get on the comment threads and forums. It makes me feel so sad. I’ve seen a number of people saying they need to kill off the Charmings and Henry! So much dislike for Henry- I don’t get it. Poor kid. I feel badly for Jared. Not to mention, the Charmings are the heart of the show. It bothers me when people clamor for the death of any of the main characters- that’s so mean!
Some people are saying the writers are incompetent and should all be fired and replaced. Um…there is a difference between bad writing and just taking the story in a direction that you disagree with. Everyone thinks they can do such a better job than the professionals. Writing for a series like OuaT is not easy. No one is perfect. They are most certainly not just winging it as some are claiming- that is not how it works. Lots of thought is put into every choice they make- for better or for worse.
Then there are the people who badger Adam on Twitter- it especially drives me crazy when people get all up in arms over spoiler pictures before the episode even airs! It’s not fair to the writers to complain about something being shown completely out of context. I’m really surprised that Adam actually responds to so many of the whiners. It’s their show- he would go crazy trying to please everyone!
I haven’t absolutely loved everything the show has done either, but it is my nature to give them the benefit of the doubt. I will never give up on the show because I’m too invested in the characters.
Sorry, I didn’t mean to get on a soapbox, and hopefully, I’m preaching to the choir for the most part. Of course, everyone has a right to an opinion, but man- the negative attitudes really bum me out sometimes. I really love this show- warts and all.

People complain about everything!
From MM’s hair and eyebrows to how unfair they portray adoption to the skin color of the actors and everything in between!
It gets rather annoying. Most of the ppl who whine about plot holes and the writing being bad are the same ones who haven’t figured out some of the things from S1 and/or who don’t get the clues/connections/allusions/nods, etc.
And they call themselves fans!
I feel like screaming at them – watch the show the writers want to show us or, if they can do better (lol) go write their own show and stop telling the writers what to do with THEIR story!March 30, 2013 at 4:31 pm #183332RumplesGirlKeymasterI literally have stopped looking at comments on news websites because I tend to be a very angry individual who wants to scream at the trolls. I have to keep tabs on Adam’s Twitter in case he says anything important or spoiler-y, but I try very hard to ignore all then negativity. With shows like this one, people become super passionate. And when something happens they don’t like, they think they have the right to demand a change or to inform the show runners. Viewers becomes enamored to a certain character or a certain ship and they think they know what is best, but the fact is this is Adam and Eddy’s show, not ours. I want to see the story they want to tell, not mine. I can write fan fiction or make fan videos if I want something. The stuff people tweet to Adam on Twitter makes me so sad and he is the nicest person ever because he responds to almost all of it.
The fact is, it’s a big cast with a huge mythology and storylines and the writers have to serve many masters. People think they have the right to demand changes or plots but we don’t and nor should we. The writers will try to please as many people as they can, but serving every individual member is impossible. If they did this show would be nothing but the ships and no story line.
Am I always thrilled some the episodes? No. I wasn’t overly fond of Selfless, Brave, and True. But that doesn’t mean I should bitch and moan and complain and rant to the writers. I come here, I say what I liked, what I didn’t like and then we as fans get to have a thoughtful discussion. It’s when people start marching out the doom and gloom and the “they’re screwing up the show!” crap that I get hot and bothered. I trust Adam and Eddy. Completely. If they think the show go in a specific direction, then I will sit back and watch and be entertained. I love this show. We live in a mad mad mad world and right now this show keeps me sane. I’m a full time graduate student who teaches, researches, and writes. This show keeps me grounded and reminds me to take some time off for myself. I adore it (and have a bit of an unhealthy obsession with it, I’ll admit). I hope Adam and Eddy know that there are more people who share my views than people who troll him."He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"March 30, 2013 at 4:56 pm #183335angiebelleParticipantExactly! It is possible to have a constructive discussion about what you did and didn’t like about an episode without going on a rampage and getting insulting and cruel. I, too, trust Adam and Eddie completely.
I have an almost unhealthy obsession with the show myself- for the opposite reason from you to some degree, RumplesGirl. I moved to CA with my husband a year ago when he got hired as a software engineer at a mobile start up company- a job he really loves. I am, at this point, mainly a housewife. I have a job as a puppeteer at a little local zoo and park, but I don’t get that many hours. OuaT is my escape from the humdrum of daily routine, and often these forums are my primary source of social interaction during the day. (I also do community theater, so that helps too.)
March 30, 2013 at 5:05 pm #183336thebeeParticipantI think one thing that upsets viewers is a growing impression that they are somehow irrelevant in the scheme of things far as the show goes. The show is not written for the writers. It’s not the writers who support it. One should never expect reward without merit.

I understand this and yes, the writers aren’t writing for themselves, they’re writing a TV for fans. However, I think you’re over stating the number of viewers who are upset about this. I find that, generally speaking, when one group finds other like minded individuals who share the same feelings about a topic as they, they tend to believe that their opinions are more common than they actually are. I’m not going to point to a certain group or groups within the Once fanbase but this seem to be the case. They believe that there are so many people who think and feel the way they do that they must be the majority and therefore should have a greater say in the TV series and in the writing. But the fact is, they are just one group in a whole community who feels different things all the time.
I’m going to use myself as an example. I have a very intense love for Rumple. He could do anything and I would defend him. In my opinion, the more Rumple on this show the better. However, I know that there are people out there in the OUaT community, heck even here in our forums, who do not like him who do not wish to see him getting so many story lines. On the other hand, I’m not a huge Regina lover. I much prefer to see her as the Evil Queen and like it when she’s devious and cunning. But others really want her redemption right now. The problem comes when I think that my views should be the majority just because i know people believe the same thing. But just because I’ve found a few other people who feel the same doesn’t mean I speak for the community as a whole. They are averaging 11 million viewers per episode (live +7). They cannot (indeed should not) appeal to each and every single one of those. If your character or your ship has received less attention this season than you like…WAIT. Each season has an arc, each season has a storyline. This season is not an accurate reflection of what next season will bring. Eddy and Adam are smart. They know what they’re doing. We have to trust them. They want this show to succeed as much as we do. But we cannot make it succeed by making outrageous demands and then threatening to walk away. If you are truly unhappy then I’m sorry and you are free to stop watching. But don’t impose your views on to the entire community. I love this show. All of it. I am thrilled with the second season. I am thrilled with the character devlopment. I think we have gotten some truly exceptional episodes (Manhattan and The Miller’s Daughter for instance). I feel wanted and respected by the writers and the fact is, if everyone truly felt this show was going downhill, the numbers would look a lot worse than what they are. It would look like some shows over on NBC that are barely hitting 4 million and getting less than 1.0 in ratings share. So the fact is, everybody is obviously happy enough to keep watching."He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"March 30, 2013 at 5:17 pm #183348gypsyParticipantThe viewers are “irrelevent in the scheme of things as far as the show goes”!
The viewsers have no right to expect that they are ‘relevent’…to the plot, to the s’ships’ (a term I hate btw) or to how the show progresses or character developement.
This show is not wirtten for the writers, you’re right, it’s written BY them…and it seems that lot of ‘fans’ are forgetting that!
March 30, 2013 at 7:01 pm #183363laurieanneParticipantAngieBelle and RumplesGirl, I don’t want to quote your entire posts, but I agree with everything you said and I feel the same way. I just don’t read “comments” on sites like TV Guide etc because of this very reason. Such meanness and negativity! It affects me too much because I LOVE the show and fully support any direction Adam and Eddy want to go with it. I am so excited for what we are going to see the rest of the season – even this weekend with all of the extras put into an episode we’ve already seen!
March 30, 2013 at 7:07 pm #183365CrownedWithLaurelsParticipantThe way I see it is that all this stuff has already happened. Not only as far as Adam and Eddy creating and writing the basic direction (didn’t they start over 10 years ago?) But also because it is set a couple years ago. In my mind, it has already happened and I’m watching what happened. I’m not concerned about changing the future because in my mind it is already the past.
My husband was telling me about the movie Misery (based on Stephen King novel) . I’ve never seen it but he told me the basic plot. He said it reminded him of the lady in the movie, how some of these people are acting.
Its one thing to be disappointed and voice that opinion. But its another to be nasty and people to act like they know all about writing a hit tv show. And the accusations woah. Its so sad. Because this is such a gift. This isn’t about giving the fans “what they want”, this is about a story that’s already been written and planned. I want Adam and Eddy’s story, ALL the way.I like what Adam has said on twitter recently. We can’t take a few comments on the internet and create our show around them. This show wasn’t created with what people wanted in mind. It was just birthed out of an idea, a dream. And it is enough to see it through to fruition and get us this far. A couple comments from rude individuals who lack tact and common decency is not enough to steer a show in a completely different direction. 10+ million viewers. A couple hundred on the web whining is nothing compared to those who don’t even get online. The majority of watchers just watch every week to see what is going to happen. They work hard all week and sit down to a cool unique show with their family. They’re not complaining on twitter or tumblr. They’re living their lives and watching the show.
Mad respect for Adam. Seriously.
Lol here are a few names my husband @MemeOuat created on the subject. The first two are my personal fav.
Adam’s alter-ego lol
Keeper Nealfire's/Bae's scarf, Henry and Neal's bribery ice cream sundae, Baelfire's sword, the coconut map, and more.
March 30, 2013 at 7:19 pm #183370gypsyParticipantOmg! Love that! SK’s “Misery”!
Yes, that’s exactly what the nasty/obsessed fans remind me of – Annie Wilkes! 😆 -
