I think that box is like the Mirror of Erised from Harry Potter. You look at it and see what you want to see. So when Emma looked in the box she saw a typewriter– normal. When Neal looked in it he saw…? I’m banking on this guy being FTL. He was way too willing to help August help Emma break the curse. Not even Emma who had more proof than Neal had was that believing.

Maybe there was more and the audience is not let in on it. Of course if it was the Blue Fairy that means she can leave Storybrook..

It couldn’t have been anything magical like a fairy because magic doesn’t exist in our world. Why else would he have believed August? I love August but it was pretty messed up to have her in prison for 11months :/
November 5, 2012 at 7:51 pm #159665glothrParticipantSorry but I’m not buying the fairy in the box theory. First of all fairies seem to glow pretty brightly, especially at night, and when he opened the box there was no glow. No nothing. Whatever was in the box did not give off light. It had to be an item of some sort.
That being said, I think the theory I’m gonna stick with for now is that August’s box has a magical ability to show whoever looks into it what they want to see.

“The question I have is…what could he possibly see in there…what would August possibly know that would make him give up on the woman he loves? It’s gotta be something.” – Eddie KitsisThey also said they were going to reveal what was was in there “before the end of the year”. (Year or season? Year, I hope. 😉 )
They hardly revealed anything, but just thought I’d post it for inspiration. Theorize away!

I do like the ideal that the Blue Fairy set up everything she needed to remember and then help guide August to do as he was meant to. Yet as August said. our world had to many temptations. Maybe that is why she said that she had to leave so her and the other fairies had to make preparations to help a wayward August. I think the 20,000.00 was to much a temptation for August though..
So what ever was shown to Neil could not have been anything magical and a Tinkerbell in a box would be way magical. 😀

Look at the box itself: was i the only one that noticed that it opened upside down? The deep part we normally think of as the box was used as the lid. That meant that the “box” part was only an inch or so deep, and from the brief glance we got from the side, i didn’t see anything over the edge. So far the best bet is a piece of paper.

I don’t know about that Faux Pax. Both Phee and I seem to agree that the typewriter was in the box. I froze the frame where he started to open it, you could see the outline of a typewriter. Still going with the picture of the dagger (was on it, then off it, now back on it lol). That is, until some other theory comes along that has a little more credence.

November 6, 2012 at 4:25 am #159722itragikkParticipantI don’t think it could be anything magical.
Our world has no magic in it. Furthermore I don’t think Neal has any relations with the FairyTaleWorld.
Now the opening sequence points Neal to be somehow correlated with PeterPan – a lot of people have pointed out the clock tower etc etc. A lot of people have also brought up that Bae could be PeterPan, BUT Bae wanted to go to a land with no magic…Neverland has some sort of magic cause of the pixies (Tinkerbell is a pixie, not a fairy). Therefore I don’t see Bae being PeterPan. Now the possibility that Neal is Bae, not to sure about that either. The hairstyles are somewhat similar, but Neal was living a ‘good for nothing’ life as August pointed out (seemed to be turned around during the opening sequence of Season2) and Bae was a bit more ‘honorable’. August never met Bae, and I’m not buying that the Blue Fairy had her memories (though she seemed to have known August from before in that one episode in Season1…).I think whatever Neal saw in that box dealt something with Emma. Maybe Neal and Emma had talked about kids prior, and had pre conceived names if they ever had a girl or boy and what was in the box was Augusts typewriter and it wrote out the name ‘Henry’ (even though I am positive Mr. Gold is the one who named Henry).
BUT fact still stands, Neal tried to dodge the question about magic.
I am just not sold on Neal being from the FairyTaleWorld. -
