Our world is a land without magic, but that doesn’t mean it has no magic in it. Regina still had her crypt of magical objects and beating hearts. Graham’s heart was glowing so it had some magic attachted to it. And if Hook is in Ouat, that means Peter Pan and Tinkerbelle aren’t far behind. Both Peter and Tink visited our world. So I’m not ruling out something magical was in the box.

She is shown or rather her shadow in SB in one of the scenes.I am voting for it to have been a picture of a dagger. But not entirely sure. With the box opening like it did and the edge of a typewriter it could have also just been his name”Bae” or if they are throwing a curve and he is an entirely different character who knows!
The story has a tendency to wrap one fairytale in with another. Theories about the Mystery man’s identity may ALL be correct. So let’s say Bae went to the land without magic..just a theory our world OR another world. Then he is sad because his father did not follow being a resourceful boy, he finds some portal in this unmagical world and starts portal hopping in an attempt to reconnect with his father. He falls into Wonderland where he is nicknamed the White Rabbit..(explaining his love of watches and the Mad Hatter sign the rabbit on his desk etc etc) In his portal hopping he hops into neverland and is stuck there for awhile with other lost boys becoming Peter Pan. Never giving up his search for his father he falls into our world and is trapped then he ages etc meets Emma.
They could wrap up Neal as several different story characters.
I also believe that the Blue Fairy was just as aware and kept her memory like Regina and Rumpel. She could have very well given August guidance throughout the 28 years as much as she could.
Remember when he tried to trick Rumpel and told Rumpel that a little fairy told him about the dagger.November 6, 2012 at 5:08 am #159731itragikkParticipant@Josephine wrote:

I don’t know, I’m not really sold on Neal being anyone but an ordinary guy.
BUT this question really has me thinking and overthinking different scenarios.
Could Neal be Bae
Could Neal be PeterPan, and like you said ultimately have come to our world with the help of Tink and stayed here (the movie Hook has Peter falling in love with Wendys daughter I believe?)
Could Bae be PeterPan
Could Neal be someone entirely different altogether from the FairyTaleLand…?Reginas hearts had no magic, when Jefferson came looking for something with magic in it to power the hat she had to give him the ring Daniel gave her because it was the one of the only things in this world that had any magical properties – I could be wrong about that, maybe the hearts do have magical properties and she didn’t want to waste them to get the apple.
Now the writers set it up so Rumple was Hooks crocodile. Hook kept the bean and went to Neverland (a land he described to Smee as a place where they will never grow old). Now the writers have not introduced Hooks PeterPan (I mean they made Rumple the Beast, and the Croc, and Cinderellas ‘fairy godmother’) BUT the possibility that Bae got transported to Neverland (a place with limited magic, maybe Rumples magic doesnt work there, or even a place that the only magic that works has to come from an item with magical properties ie the bean Hook used) is a slim chance. AND on top of that, it also leaves room for Bae to be PeterPan.
My whole problem with Bae being PeterPan would be that Peters nemesis is Hook and Hooks nemesis is Peter, Hooks quandary with the Croc is brought upon because Peter feeds the Croc Hooks hand. In OUaT, Rumple cut off Hooks hand to get the bean, becoming Hooks Croc. So with those facts stated, it can only make sense that whatever they do with PeterPan can’t be related to Rumple therefore thats why I don’t think Bae could be PeterPan.
I think Neal being PeterPan and following more of a story line like the movie Hook is a possibility.
BUT that brings us back to the whole ~what was in that box?~ question…and at that stage I don’t think it could be TinkerBell or anything Tinkerbell related (reminding him of the FairyTaleWorld).
And all that is because I am pretty set on that Neal is a normal character…BUT I really don’t know, cause that box has me all sorts of messed up haha
November 6, 2012 at 5:16 am #159734cheri stringerParticipantBut doesn’t Bea KNOW his mom hooked up with hook? I mean he saw her getting wasted at the tavern with his crew and KNOWS that his mom left him for Hook. That would set up “Peter” to have a good reason to be pretty ticked off at Hook and antagonize him at every turn. Being a kid he couldn’t go right out and challenge him to a duel etc. The drawing of Bae looked very Peter Pan. He would want a different name of course because if anyone knew he was Rumpel’s son they would think he was evil too ..Hook did only see Bae for a few short minutes and perhaps never knew he was Rumpel’s son he left motherless.

True.

The best theory I have seen yet is the picture of the dagger, even though I really hope it isn’t. Look at the box itself: was i the only one that noticed that it opened upside down? The deep part we normally think of as the box was used as the lid. That meant that the “box” part was only an inch or so deep, and from the brief glance we got from the side, i didn’t see anything over the edge. So far the best bet is a piece of paper.
I don’t know about that Faux Pax. Both Phee and I seem to agree that the typewriter was in the box. I froze the frame where he started to open it, you could see the outline of a typewriter.
The box opens the same way as when we saw it in SB. Please excuse the dodgy quality of my screencap on the right, but I tried to lighten it up a bit. I think the curved shadows you can see there are the curved edges on the typewriter, as seen on the left:

I think he is a man of our world -at least I hope so, I have higher expectations regarding Baelfire XDD- so I don’t think that just a book or a picture could help Neal to became a believer. Maybe a magical item, in any sense -Tinkerbell would be a really good one ^^-
But, if August had some magical item, why not show it to Emma in season 1 to make her believe?
Now, I’m confused 😆WHY would you have HIGHER EXPECTATIONS of Bael?
Look at the reality of the situation…. Bael arrives in this world after the betrayal of his father. As a middle ages surfs son he has no education …. Could he read? Can he deal with anything the real world shows him. Does he have any friends or family here? Any support system? I am surprised he did not end up in the LOONY BIN.

A living breathing tinketbell was in the box.
August has always bothered me. Never liked him. Really dislike him now even more.
Neal is not Bae. Bae still may be Pan, but pretty sure not Henry’s dad.
As I said on another thread ….. DOES ANYONE HAVE A MATCH? BETTER YET A BLOW TORCH…. LETS TURN HIM INTO A PILE OF ASHES.
