Good point. and if you pay attention to the way he says “Magic is everywhere” it seems like telling a kid in our world that they were going to a world without water–just because they hated stromes, doesn’t mean they never played in a puddle.
Ha, I thought I recognized your name from Fan Forums, but it was actually here! Thank you so much for your story. I loved it. http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8678188/1/Stardust
ETA: Someone or several people perhaps have already tweeted Jane Espenson with the correct answer. It could still be anything, but I’m hoping it was the drawing of the dagger in the box.

ETAA: Here’s even more Jane Espenson spoilers mostly about the box, http://forums.televisionwithoutpity.com/index.php?showtopic=3209355&view=findpost&p=15338134
-She said what was in the box was both a “big… shiny… red… mystery” and then a “little.. shiny… mystery”.
-She seemed to imply that a potential Regina-Love-Arc was going to happen in the future. I could see this sense Daniel told Regina to “love again.”
-She said it wasn't Pinocchio's/August's fault that he gave into temptation because “he's just built that way.”
-She implied that August went back for Emma because of guilt, not because of a directive from someone else, but left this open ended.
-She would only say Neal “believed quickly” but wouldn't disclose if he had a FTL connection or not; this was as far as she would describe his connection to the object in the box.
-She confirmed that Aurora and Henry had the same dream.
-The reason August didn't tell Emma about her destiny is that he “doesn't deal with responsibility well.”I agree with the poster that wrote this that it's either a heart, the picture of a dagger, or perhaps both right now.
Interesting about August doing so out of guilt and not because the Blue Fairy contacted him, but there's wiggle room there since she left the answer open ended.
Ok, don’t know where I’m going with all of this as my mind is racing right now, but I’ll throw some thoughts out there.
I was tweeting with Jane on Sunday as I see the episode an hour before everyone else. Here is one of our tweets regarding the box:

Hide conversation Reply Delete FavoriteI’m going to look at her other tweets from the night. When I read about it being BIG RED SHINY I automatically thought of the Rubbie Slippers.
So here is what I'm thinking. We know that Jefferson's hat could only port between magical worlds. Oz is a magical world. We also know that both Dorothy and the Wizard travelled between Oz and the real world. What if Blue contacted The Wizard and gave instructions to keep an eye out for Emma & Pino? What if The Wizard were the middle man, looking out for Emma during the curse? What if he got a hold of the Rubbie Slippers and showed those to Neal? What if Ethan is the Wizard of Oz & Barrett, and that is why he is now mysteriously showing up in Storybrooke?
Like I said, just random thoughts that started running through my mind when I read those spoilers. Going to check on Jane’s other Sunday tweets.

Went to look up her exact tweet:
You think he was sent there? I felt that his guilt drove him to track her down. But it’s an open question.
Dontcha just love when someone answers a question with another question? ๐ I’m still not ruling out the possibility that Blue gave him orders. Perhaps he began tracking Emma down on his own, but if he and Blue were both following Emma’s trail, Blue could have caught scent of him too, and then contacted him. When I read about it being BIG RED SHINY I automatically thought of the Rubbie Slippers.
The slippers is an interesting prospect, but a pair of shiny, red shoes is a pretty generic item. It's easy enough to find any old pair of sparkly red shoes in our world, so how would Neal look at a pair of them and instantly know without question that it was THE Ruby Slippers?

Actually they were only that way in the movie. In the book they were silver and we don’t know which version the show would pull from. I mean they have pulled from both the Disney versions of fairy tales and the Grimm (or classic) versions.

I don’t know where Jane Espenson said that someone tweeted the correct answer. I listened to her blog and I went through all of Sundays tweets. There were only 3 guesses. One was that it was a nude picture of Rumple! LOL! We can safely rule that out. A second one was the briefcase from Pulp Fiction. I don't think so. The third was mine, that I tweeted at 8pm E/T and I've copied it below. IF and only IF, she actually said that someone's tweet to her is correct, looks like the dagger is the winner. How it could be construed as big, little, red, shiny, new & a mystery, I don't know.

November 8, 2012 at 2:24 pm #160012PanTheManParticipantThere have been several magical objects mentioned that aren’t accounted for yet. The Ruby Slippers being one. Rumple was looking for them. What if Neal is from Oz. They keep dropping hints. Dorothy would have returned to our world wearing the slippers, and maybe august found them. That’s why Rumple/Gold can’t find them.
I’m not convinced that Neal is Bae or Pan, but that doesn’t mean that he isn’t from another land. I think Neal believed in magic before he met August based off the answer he gave when asked, “do you believe in magic?”
Given the evidence, I don’t think Neal is Peter Pan or that Tink is in the box. Tink and Pan belong to each other, and i dare anyone to try keeping Tink’s personality trapped in a box. He’s not Pan.
There is more evidence to suggest he’s Bae, but i think that’s what the writers want us to think.
November 8, 2012 at 5:48 pm #160030NobodyParticipantAt first, I really liked the idea of him showing him theruby slippers (or silver depending on if the ruby ones are trademark or copyright protected by the movie company that owns that movie now)but the more I think about it the more I am leaning towards something else….the picture of the daggerseems pretty good if Neal turns out to be Bae.
The reasons I don’t think it’s the slippers is because in the book Dorothy lost them as she flew over the Deadly Desert on her way home to Kansas and they were never seen again in any of the original series. So, it’s looking like we won’t see them if they follow the book. It might be the easy out for the writers because if people got all up in arms about Frankenstein not being a fairy tale character and arguing that Frankenstein is the monster not the doctor (seriously…I read that a lot) then a lot of people will get mad about the shoes not being ruby (which as I said could be protected) and since it is a show about story book characters they should be silver anyways. Also, if Neal is just a guy from our world would shoes (no matter how shiny)be that impressive?
Anyways, I think the picture of the dagger is very likely given all the clues that point to Neal beingBae and Peter Pan (The Golden Key and Gypsy have found a lot of good connections).
November 8, 2012 at 6:50 pm #160043kalliopekiseesParticipantI posted it this in another thread but here it is again.
I just read on line that Jennifer Morrison was quoted as saying about Neal
“He obviously is posed with the possibility of coming back to Storybrooke because of the pigeon who brought him the little note. So I think definitely there's going to have to be a decision made on his part as to whether or not he decides to follow up on what he started 10 years ago.”
Hmmm… Why did she use the words COMING BACK TO instead of COMING TO? Did she let it slip that he already had traveled there?

That’s really something to think about Kallio ๐ฎ “coming back” vs “coming to”. Slip up or intentional. Oh, how I love/hate this series! ๐ ๐ฟ

I just remembered something. Remember how there was a deleted scene from I think it was either Hat Trick or The stranger with August and Jefferson and they never released it, even on the DVD. Put that together with the Cleaners & Hatters sign in Neal’s room and maybe you have some sort of information network? I’m just saying. I mean we are going on and on about how it might be the BF pulling the strings, but we keep frogetting that Jefferson remembered everything. Maybe he always knew more then it was letting on; i mean he did work closely with both Rumple and Regina.
I always found it odd that Smee knew the rumors about Rumple but that by the time of the curse no one knew anything. I think it’s impossible for them to have COMPLETELY died down and if Jefferson heard something about it, i think he would be smart enough to keep his trap shut.
Maybe he knew about Bae and then when He and August found Neal he knew enough to get him to listen and Neal/Bae filled in the rest (the info August would later use for his little trick). The only thing i can’t figure out would be how they knew Neal was Bae (if in fact he is). But it’s just a theory.
