I wish there were thumbs up or like tags on these posts. I agree with so much of what has been said 😀 Great thoughts!

II. Rumple was the one that made the prophecy. How reliable is he? I hate asking this question, because honestly I hope what we were told is the truth. And he tends to make good on his deals. But we don’t know exactly how much information he witheld etc. And what he said could be true, but not until the endgame.
I’ve said before in a Rumpel-centric thread that Rumpel actually is a pretty honest character. From what I’ve seen, Rumpel hasn’t lied to anyone (except maybe himself). He may not be open with what he knows, he may not share the whole truth, but he doesnot outright lie.
Agreed. Basically I just wonder how much information he’s withheld or not said. I believe everything he says is true, but I also think we are assuming everything he’s said is the full picture. Basically I don’t think the curse is fully broken and there is more to the Emma prophecy.

True enough that he commits ‘sins of omission’ but how else is he going to get anyone accept a deal? Is it his fault if they don’t dig for details? Rumpel is so powerful himself but also knows the strength of need and greed that he doesn’t have to worry about making bold-faced lies.
May 15, 2012 at 12:19 pm #146894hjbauParticipantIt is his fault that he lies by omission. If he wants to do a deal he should tell them what they are getting into. They may still choose to do the deal or choose not to, but at least then it wouldn’t be so evil of a thing. Like tricking a woman for her first born child just so that she could get out of poverty is pretty evil, but if he told her up front maybe she would have realized she could change her life on her own and just do it. I know it wouldn’t be as good of a story, but that doesn’t change the fact that what Rumpel is doing is lying and is causing pain and suffering and that he doesn’t care about causing pain and suffering as long as he is able to get what he wants.
I think that if we really go back and think about what we know all of the evil that is happening that we have seen has been caused by Rumpel. Even what happened to Regina because i think that Cora did a deal with Rumpel to get her power and that led to Regina becoming who she is and that lead to Regina gaining magics as well so the long consequences of Rumpel’s choices have are horrifying for the world. That doesn’t negate the choices of the people who did deals with him, they are still in the wrong, and certainly Cora and Regina are in the wrong, but the choices made by those people also do not negate the choices Rumpel makes to do evil and the fact that he is under the dark one curse is not enough to say he is not culpable. He knows what he is doing and based on Skin Deep he can make other choices, but he doesn’t.

They wrapped up a lot of things but then gave us just a bit of new information to wonder how they are going to approach next season. I thought this was a much better approach than the cliff hangers that leave you wondering if characters have been killed off or if characters are having affairs with other characters, etc.
I also thought that, once again, they did a GREAT job with messing with our heads with the “good” side of the villians. I actually felt the most sorry for Regina in the episode – especially when the BF told her she should go hide and she told Henry that no matter what anyone tells him she does love him. And then instead of going somewhere to hide she just went back home and went into Henry’s room and smelled his pillow and started to cry. It made me think “This poor woman – she just lost ANOTHER man she loved” but then right as they get me to feel all sorry for her the purple smoke comes billowing in and she gets her EQ facial expression all over again and I’m like “Ugh!! No – still evill!!!! No lesson learned!!”
Then you have Rumple who gets all lovey dovey emotional when he sees Belle and actuallu reaches out to touch her because he can’t believe that she is alive and is horrified that Regina did that to her. And then my heart is ripped out (no pun intended) when he breaks down and hugs her and tells her that yes, he will protect her and no, she doesn’t know him but she will. And when Belle calls him Rumplestiltskin and they tell each other that they love each other – JOY and HAPPINESS ALL AROUND. Dancing puppies and kittens!!! World peace on the horizon!! But no – once again they mess with my head, another character that simply cannot learn from his mistakes (and it’s the character who’s motto is “All magic comes with a price”????) and Rumple decides that bringing back magic is a super idea. I guess because with Belle at his side it will turn out better this time! (Said sarcastically).
Really, I get the whole reason for Rumple thinking he needs to bring back the magic, he just doesn’t seem to take his own advice very well. 🙄
But Carlyle is still an acting God. 😉

May 15, 2012 at 2:37 pm #146907kalliopekiseesParticipantOne thing I love about this show is how they develop characters, personalities and actions. Everyone has a dark and a light side. NO ONE is perfect. We are not saints. I love how the show provokes you to think about morality. I use to loth Regina, but as the show has progressed, I have come to feel rather sorry for her. She had a horrific upbringing, is hated by everyone, and continually loses the things she loves (even if she is responsible for the loss). There is no doubt that she would be pleased and excited that magic is returning. Magic is all that she has. It is what she hides behind and protects herself with. I think deep down inside, Regina is actually more fragile than we think. She does have a strong nurturing side to her. We see this side when she tends to her plants, her horse and let’s not forget Henry. I was actually sad when she was “defeated” and did not want to see her powerless at all . I really have grown fond of her as the villain and love to hate her so. (Better the devil you know than the devil you don’t)
Rumple is all about himself, but I also love him for it. I think people read too much into his relationship with Belle and are perhaps looking to get lost in a love story of sorts. (Ahhh True Love). It will be interesting to see how this relationship plays out. Perhaps Belle will be able to influence Rumple, perhaps not. Belle seems like a strong character and I’m not sure how long she will tolerate Rumples “bad” behavior. But, I cannot really state Rumple’s behavior is bad (except when he kills people. LOL). All I can state is that it is self-serving. He has brought back magic for a reason, whether he is setting himself up or protecting himself from something, I don’t know. He wants to be a contender in the final battle I’m sure. As he states Magic = Power. He obviously knows a whole lot more than we do at this time. I think her is suiting himself up and getting ready for war. Perhaps he wants to be king?
