I think the problem is… and it’s tempting because the show is so complex…. that we overanalyze things to death. And the writers do their best by hiding hints and clues all over the place and writing what we want to see, but we are making their job extremely hard, because if they get it wrong, for instance if Robert Carlyle accidentally leaves his wedding ring on, we come down on them hard, even though most people won’t have noticed.
So maybe it’s us that need to calm down. Enjoy the journey, rather than worry about every step.
Writers are just humans too.Yup!!! 😉 I actually like it if they make little mistakes. It’s amusing(not in a critical way, mind you)

I know we all love Once, and it’s one of my favorite shows on right now, but there are loads of Emmy-worthy dramas that are out there so saying that “everything else on TV is crap compared to OUAT” is just not true.

H&K has stated that last year they did not think they would get picked up beyond the first couple of episodes … they kind of wrote them to be stand alone. When they got pick up they shifted gears and started thinking more long term. .
Not quite sure either, why they brought up the moment Regina and Snow met at great length here. Maybe it was there to tie it all in for people, who aren’t following the show so intensely as fans are, after all it has been a while, that Stable Boy aired. Not everyone has seen and discussed all so far aired episodes umpteen times.
I personally think they are foreshadowing Snows turning to the DARK SIDE. They are reminding viewers the reasons for the change in attitude. I think this is a common technique used to clarify things for viewers and bring the show to the next level. .

We all make mistakes, give them a little credit. They can’t please everyone, it’s impossible. Rather than focusing on the things you don’t like and getting yourself upset over it, focus on the good stuff – and there is plenty of that. I hadn’t even noticed these ‘mistakes’ before I read this. And I highly doubt every other viewer would too. The only way most people notice mistakes, such as this one, is because they purposefully look for them. And then they get upset 😆
The writers put a lot of effort into writing the episodes, and I thnk their effort hasn’t gone to waste. We’re not getting paid to watch this show, so you don’t have to watch it if it’s upsetting you 🙂March 5, 2013 at 2:34 am #177199jessieparadoxes of peopleParticipantI agree,Jolly Roger!!!!And those “plot holes”are meant to be “filled in” when the writers think it would be most effective too.

It’s a heckuva lot better than most of the stuff out there right now.
And I believe that young Regina only asked her mother whether she knew the king was in the area–she suspected but she didn’t call her mother on it at the time.
I just re-watched that part of the Stable boy what she says is that ‘you knew the king was traveling through our land, that steed that Snow was riding didn’t go wild on its own” and Cora only says “I have no idea what you’re implying….

Agreed. One of the things that makes a good show is when you can go back and rewatch previous eps and realise that certain things were setups and foreshadowing for a big payoff. If every little answer was filled in immediately the first time we see any given scenario, then it wouldn’t be nearly as much fun to speculate and anticipate how the pieces will all eventually fit together. Every ep would be stand alone, instead of the intricately woven, evolving story threads we get. Didn’t K&H say at Paley that they put a lot of effort into mapping out the major story arcs for this season? Everything we’ve seen is them laying the groundwork to build up to the end of season climax.
March 7, 2013 at 6:59 pm #177962raulybarraParticipantI’ve had some concerns for a couple of episodes now. For me, making Bae a couple of hundred years old is now the biggest plot hole of all. How in the world would Rumpel have any expectation to find his son alive after all this time? As the holes accumulate, it’s going to get harder to get the suspension of belief that these kind of fairy tales require.
I think the problem was less one of laziness and more one of having too many threads on the loom. We’re not getting the tightly woven tapestry that the story could be. I’m certainly hoping they either have a plan or that they realized it themselves and make the corrections.
It’s not so much a matter of Once being better than anything else. It’s a question of whether or not it engages me and my family. It is something we share together, debate and talk about. It’s something we engage in in the online communities. It’s not a matter of how good it is in comparison to others, it’s an issue of it being the best it can be for its own sake. To put it another way, if I wasn’t watching Once, it’s not that I would be watching something else. Instead, I’d be reading or playing games with my son or writing for TheChristianGeek or doing something at that early evening time that watching TV.
From what I’ve seen, Oncers tend to be a fairly bright crowd. Many having been spoiled by highly intelligent shows like LOST or Fringe. If they let it descend to the level of soap opera, they run a very real risk of losing much of their core audience. For a serial, that’s a death sentence.
