Wonder how they’re gonna handle that within the show or if they’ll even bother addressing it at all?
I’d been in two minds about it. On the one hand, they could probably just let it slide because even if the kid is growing, he won’t look that different, especially if he’s always dressed the same as he was in SB. On the other hand, it could be fun if they actually used the fact that he’s obviously growing as a plot point, because people aren’t supposed to age in NL, and if he still can, that makes him unique in a magical kinda way.
Seeing that pic he tweeted today, maybe the unkempt hair is adding to it, but is it just me or does his face look much more grown up now? Here’s a side by side that someone posted on tumblr…
Also, is it just me or is he starting to resemble Dylan Schmid a bit more closely now?

"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"July 4, 2013 at 11:45 am #199455HappyEndingsSpectatorI saw some where that in the show “Lost” they had a kid that started out to be important then latter he wasn’t I wonder if this happens on this show?
July 4, 2013 at 11:51 am #199459RumplesGirlKeymasterThat was Walt. Walt was semi-important. He reappered in later seasons. He wasn’t like Henry who is really one of the central foci of the entire show. It’s not like they need to address it either. Kids grow up, Henry’s a normal kid. He’s going to grow.

Yes, they’re in Neverland but I don’t think they’re going to be there for years so it shouldn’t be an issue. They already alluded to Henry growing up with Mr. Gold’s little dream about killing Henry on his birthday, so I don’t think it’s going to be that big of a deal.
I mentioned Harry Potter in another thread, but it fits here, too. People were complaining that the kids were growing up too fast, but I never understood the worry. Did they not realize that each year the characters grow older? Heck, Hermione was a few months shy of nineteen when the final battle occurred. When you have thirty year olds playing teens on tv, I don’t think Henry getting a bit taller is going to be a problem, especially when it can be easily written into the script…at least when they come back from Neverland. 😉

Also, the storyline of LOST occurred over a more condensed timeframe, so it was a whole different situation where they actually couldn’t keep him around while the actor aged normally over several years.

Well, we dunno yet just how long they’re gonna be in NL, most are guessing at least half a season, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s longer. Anyway, time in NL passes at a faster rate, so to speak. I just think it could be fun if they actually do use his growth spurt in the story somehow. Like, they could use it to sort of define just how much of a timey wimey discrepancy there is. If they get back to SB and to the SBers they’ve been gone a week, but Henry appears to have aged a year, that could help flesh out the laws of NL a bit in a cool way. (Of course, that’s assuming they wanted to write it as him being able to age in NL, but given he’s the only one who could age in SB, it would be consistent with his characterisation so far.)

They could even use it in the first episode of the season. When the CharMillStiltskins arrive in NL, it will seem to them that only minutes have elapsed since they left SB but it may have been a few months for Henry, which would allow them to acknowledge his growth spurt.
July 4, 2013 at 4:03 pm #199486MysteryKat25ParticipantKids age, it happens.
Time passes at a faster rate in NL yes so when they get back the people in SB might think it’s been a week and it could have been a month to the people in NL but nobody ages in NL (otherwise Bae wouldn’t be alive and neither would Hook) so I seriously doubt they’ll add it into the story in any way. It would be rather impossible to since the whole point of anybody being in NL was that they didn’t age (it’s why we couldn’t meet Henry’s dad until they got the rights to use NL to explain how Bae was still alive after all this time, it’s why Hook went to NL in the first place to get enough time to plot revenge on Rumple – it just can’t happen unless they make Henry some bizarre exception that defies the laws of everything we’ve seen so far.)
The age thing has always been tricky with this show, what with people being frozen in time and not aging essentially, but with regards specifically to NL, it may just have to be a suspension of disbelief thing because Jared is aging even though Henry isn’t supposed to be (for however long they’re in NL, SB was never an issue thankfully).
Hopefully they don’t spend too much time in NL if it becomes an issue as it will be harder to believe but it’s just one of those things. I don’t see how they can get away with saying that Henry aged however long NL felt like vs nobody else has ever aged while in NL (within the show to keep things OUAT canon). It would have to be some Henry-only exception. (Which isn’t impossible given that we know he’s special and PP wants him but we don’t know why – I’m just saying right now, with everything canon we’ve seen so far, it would have to have a really good explanation and not feel like a cop-out just because the actor is aging. We’ll have the same issue with Dylan for NL flashbacks with Bae but we know Bae didn’t age either…)
Perhaps soon after they return Henry will get a birthday party (that his parents can be a part of this time – I hate how he all of a sudden was 11 and Emma didn’t get to celebrate with him! There was no mention or anything of her being gone when it happened if that’s when she was in FTL etc, he was just 11 when she was back).

July 4, 2013 at 4:33 pm #199493Daniel J. LewisKeymasterAs we pointed out in the podcast, time works differently in Neverland. There’s a difference in Storybrooke time between when Greg and Tamara jumped through the portal and when everyone else goes through the portal with Hook’s ship. So that small difference (we could say it’s an hour or two) could be a gigantic difference in Neverland.
Because Henry’s special, he may also age in Neverland while no one else does. So they could explain the age difference that way.
July 4, 2013 at 5:24 pm #199498RumplesGirlKeymasterThat’s true, but we still don’t know the specifics of how NL time works, or any what “time” there means. In the PP story, it isn’t that the sun doesn’t rise and set like it would in any other world, it’s biological time that stands still. You freeze as you are. But we know that celestial time moves, we saw Bae with Hook at night on his ship and then it was morning. We don’t know if it’s 24 hour/day but that time does pass somehow.
