Yeah, Cora is pretty evil. I think she scares the crap out of Hook, too. That’s why I think he was so willing to work with Emma in the very beginning, and why Cora accused Hook of choosing “her”. He wants revenge on Rumpel yeah, but he also wants to get away from her!
Hmm, we’ll see. He took Aurora’s heart and was more than willing to kill Belle. His actions confuse me sometimes.
I can’t shake the feeling that Barrett with have some sort of connection to Neal’s life.
That’s my thinking as well. 😉
[adrotate group="5"]December 11, 2012 at 4:29 pm #164549oncewatcherParticipantHook never intended to kill Aurora. He is a chess player and she was expendable to his own purposes, but he has least has a sense of honor. Otherwise, he would have let her heart go through that portal, and wouldn’t have taken the time or effort to save it (and give it back).
As for Belle: I don’t know, but I still don’t think his getting ready to “hook” Belle was a random act, and he’s not the type to let his emotions lead him into poortly thought-out acts of foolishness. It had reason behind it. But, what was it? I don’t think Belle is a villan by any means of the word, but I do have to wonder if there may be more to her, than meets the eye.
I do think though, that he already knew Belle was important to RS. That being the case, is that why he wanted to kill her? An eye, for an eye? Or, was it because he believed she was protecting RS, and was going to be an inhibitor to the justice he wanted for Milah?
There’s still a lot to learn here, folks.

but he gave back her heart…yeah he was willing to kill Belle he’s a pirate he is looking out for himself and his revenge… He knows Belle is important because Regina wouldn’t really put that much emphasis in locking her up if she wasn’t
(and honestly the whole back and forth just gives more ammo to my Peter Pan theory hehehe) btw Hook doesn’t have magical abilities Regina enchanted his hook to be able to take out 1 heart (which he used for Aurora)
Same!
December 11, 2012 at 4:37 pm #164554oncewatcherParticipantOh, that’s right! I had forgotten about that! So, no more magical Hook. That’s not a bad thing.

That scene was pretty easy to understand. I honestly do not believe that the reason why Hook almost killed Belle was because he thought she was evil. He hit her and called her “useless” right before he almost killed her. Hook is called a villain for a reason.

Wait…WHAT? You think Hook was going to kill Belle because he thought she was evil? 😆
December 11, 2012 at 4:49 pm #164563oncewatcherParticipantIf he thought she were protecting Rumpel, then in his mind, would she be any better than him? That’s the reasoning I put into that. I’m still confused by why he would just randomly want to kill her for being of no use to him. Hook puts calculation into everything he does. He’s not the type to lash out with his emotions like that.
I really hope they’ll gradually redeem Hook though, from a villan to a good guy. It’d have to take a long time for them to do it, but it could be a great story. He’ll have to bury his axes, and it’ll take a lot of time and perspective to convince him it’s worthwhile to do that. The events that teach that perspective are where the story comes from. Namely, I hope, Emma.
December 11, 2012 at 4:50 pm #164564magickingdomParticipantJudging by what I saw, it really did seem as if Hook was going to kill Belle because he thought she was useless. When she refused to give him the information he wanted, he slapped her and said “so pretty and yet so useless.” And then preceded to raise his hook as if to kill her. The only reason why Belle survived is because of Regina…oddly enough. 😆
But like others have said, he’s a villain, so he’ll behave as one. Trying to justify his actions isn’t going to make them any less terrible. I had to learn that with Rumpel. I love him, but I’m not going to excuse his behavior. Sometimes our love for a character gets in the way of our judgement.

I disagree. We don’t know enough about Hook’s character to know if he’s that calculated. Rumpel is calculating. Cora is calculating. All we’ve seen from Hook is that he’s a vengeful pirate with a strange sense of “honor.” Which apparently includes taking an innocent girl’s heart and almost killing another innocent girl just because she wouldn’t do what he asked.

Yeah, I’ve never viewed Hook as calculating either. His move with Aurora’s heart might have been calculated, but his actions with Belle probably weren’t.
And I agree. Trying to justify someone’s actions is just unnecessary. There are people who make excuses for Rumpel killing Milha or Regina killing her father all the time. I’m not going to do that with Hook. The scene in the jail cell was very straightforward.
December 11, 2012 at 5:02 pm #164569oncewatcherParticipantEither way, I still hope they do more with him than make him a villan. It’s too shallow a story for him to just be a bad guy, and stay that way. That doesn’t take much effort, imagination, or brain power. Honestly, I’d feel short-changed.
Hook definitely has the qualities needed for him to be Emma’s Charming. He’ll have to definitely learn how to let some stuff go, though. It’ll take a long time, but this character will have to learn how to forgive people who hurt him. It won’t be limited to Rumpelstiltskin,. He’ll have to give grace to people, who he really hates; whether they do the same for him, or not. It’ll be hard to do that, but he’ll come out better for it, and so will the story.
