You know there is something I have been waiting for since they broke the curse that just hasn’t happened. There have not been any reactions from the characters to the idea that their lives are part of storybook folklore in our world. Don’t they find that the least bit strange? Also, there is the fact that they know each other’s stories now- or at least our world’s versions of them. I’m dying for a moment when they compare the stories and films to what really happened.
And how did their stories become part of our world anyway? The story of Snow White has existed for centuries and yet only happened about 30 years ago in the enchanted forest. What about Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland? Those are novels written by specific people in our world!
[adrotate group="5"]March 10, 2013 at 6:11 am #178650PheeParticipantYes, I’m really hoping they get around to one day showing us exactly how all these stories became known in our world! Maybe the Brothers Grimm were realm jumpers?
March 10, 2013 at 7:07 am #178652KebParticipantWell, they have mentioned it once or twice–David, for example, has memories of reading Alice in Wonderland, and Mary Margaret before the curse was broken seemed to know the stories in Henry’s book. Also, Adam Horowitz said on twitter the other day that yes, they have seen the Disney versions etc of their own stories.
But I’d love to see more of that weirdness play out. I enjoy those moments when the characters have to deal with our world a little extra.

March 10, 2013 at 7:13 am #178653MysteryKat25ParticipantThat’s true, we haven’t gotten much of that. I’d definitely be interested in seeing how that would play out. We haven’t heard much other than last season when Emma is talking to MM and saying that the stories in Henry’s book aren’t exactly the traditional stories. We haven’t really seen them address it post-curse other than David having heard of the Mad Hatter from the Alice in Wonderland book and not from FTL. Would love to see them have some kind of conversation about how they were portrayed.
Emma should have some interesting stories for sure now that she’s meeting people! (I still love her constant Pinocchio references – implication that it was Henry in the pilot, freaking out that August was insane because he said he was Pinocchio in The Return, and then of course the ever classic you left me because Pinocchio told you to? in Manhattan. Time for other characters to be addressed! And of course we can’t forget her initial reaction to the curse being real: that she just had a conversation with the Evil Queen & Rumplestiltskin. Definitely needs to be more of that).

March 10, 2013 at 2:31 pm #178671timespacerParticipantI’d love to see more of that reaction too. I think Henry’s comment that Frankenstein isn’t in his book might be a hint that we are going to see more non-fairy tale stories and address the question of how those stories came to be in our world.
March 10, 2013 at 2:46 pm #178677kfchimeraParticipantI feel they really missed some opportunities to show these types of reactions in the name of the Brother”. Besides the Henry comment hinting at other non-FTL characters, we had that one moment when Snow & Co are worrying about Greg revealing what he saw to the outside world, when Grumpy says “‘Cause you’ve seen ‘E.T’ or ‘Splash’ or any other movie where they find something magical and study it to death.” That almost came close to a potential jumping off point for someone saying “well the movie version of things are exaggerated or different” but of course the scene did not go there. Later on when we get that revelation from Henry that Frankenstein was not in the book of fairy tales and they say ” Who else is here?” there was sort of a quip from Henry where he says “The monster had bolts, not the doctor”. I wish the writers had placed that conversation in a scene with a semi-passed out Whale–who could have piped up with a funny reply/take on the movie version of his story that the other characters were refrencing.
Maybe this storyline with Greg will let them get into those kinds of scenes more.
“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?” -- Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass
March 10, 2013 at 4:02 pm #178698KebParticipantWell, the way that Ruby and Whale’s conversation in “In the Name of the Brother” went, it was clear that they both knew their stories as popularly told; Whale was upset because everyone thinks he’s a monster, and Ruby comforts him by saying “I’m the werewolf.”
I would love to see it addressed more, but I think it is there and comes up every now and then–from those who were transported from FTL as well as those who grew up in The Land Without Magic.

March 10, 2013 at 4:55 pm #178714wizard55ParticipantI have a thread a few pages back where we discussed in detail how the stories could have come into our world. I can’t figure out how to link to it on my phone right now. 😕
I surely hope for more reactions like this in the future, and I also cannot believe how Emma is taking all of this in such stride. In my opinion her reactions to meeting some of these iconic characters isnt very shocked. When you think of all the things that happened in fairytale land she may have raised an eyebrow to it but then didn’t say anything afterwards it’s like you’re not even going to exclaim “you’ve gotta be kidding me….Captain Hook!?”……lol. idk. Jennifer morrison actually mention this in a PaleyFest interview I watched where she said “how is she still alive!?” Dealing with all of this magic and Realm jumping and meeting all of these famous people.

.Is this the thread you are thinking of? There is discussion of the origin of the stories in some of the later posts in this thread:
