Cool! 😎 I didn’t know there were so many songs already written for the show! 😀

But I enjoy reading deeper meanings into things, so I’m going to post more songs that could have many interpretations, and find meanings that fit the show.

Here is another from the same songwriter as the last one I posted: Dave Carter. He wrote quite a few girl power songs, and goddess worship songs, and many that are both. And this song seems absolutely perfect for Maleficent!

And this video is perfect for the song (and beautiful). 😀

    I Go Like the Raven
© 2001 David Robert Carter (BMI), administered by Tracy Grammer Music

    —

    woodpecker woman, chipaway whittle
carve my name in a hick’ry fiddle
dance all night, dream just a little
    i go like the raven

down in the meadow, deep in the holler
bullfrog sing to the bug-eyed crawler
slide to the rake, hop to the caller
    reel with the willow waivin

    shine the merlin moonbeam eye
set my dancin feet to fly
o’er the dark and dervish sky
    i go like the raven

long time ago i had me a feller
    three-cocked hat and a coat o’ yeller
locked me down in a sawdust cellar
    fed me beans and bacon

through the doorway he did enter
played him coy, played him tender
played him slumber through the winter
    gone when the birds awakened

    shine the merlin moonbeam eye
set my dancin feet to fly
o’er the dark and dervish sky
    i go like the raven

when they hear my bowstrings tightnin
    angels gay, devils frightnin
    c’mon fire and midnight lightnin
    to the garden gancy

    hail the wayward werewolf howlin
haints and shades and goblins growlin
    fiends and demon deves a-prowlin
    when i break and fancy

    shine the merlin moonbeam eye
set my dancin feet to fly
o’er the dark and dervish sky
    i go like the raven

now all you blackbirds plain or pretty
hear my words for rede or witty:
keep the greenwood, shun the city
    and her dandies craven

So, in the winter finale Maleficent seemed to travel by changing into a group of crows. And in the last episode, there was a crow statue in her castle. Also, I finally saw the Angelina Jolie movie, and there she is friends with a crow (well, a crow / man). So Mal is strongly associated with crows.

This song encompasses so many things: women and magic, the mystical forces of nature, and women and crows.

The verse before the first chorus, seems to describe all the wild critters having a square dance! 😆 The imagery of all kinds of wildlife, celebrating together with abandon, reminds me of the wondrous creatures in the moors in the movie. 🙂

The verses after the first chorus, describe being locked in a cellar! 😮 That is Mal, locked beneath the library!!!

The whole song gives an impression of wild forces, shifting and changing, impossible to contain. Magic in the werewolf’s howl, magic in the moonlight, and those who can make themselves part of that fly with the ravens and never stay put.

The warning in the final verse, once again speaks to the movie. If you’ve seen it, you know what I mean. 🙂

There are two songs (besides Beauty and the Beast’s whole soundtrack) that seem as if they were written specifically with Rumbelle in mind, one from his perspective and one from hers. I only found them through fan vids…but I’ve been listening to them nonstop for the past couple of weeks.

    Rumple’s perspective:

    Demons, by Imagine Dragons:
    When the days are cold
    And the cards all fold
    And the saints we see
    Are all made of gold

    When your dreams all fail
    And the ones we hail
    Are the worst of all
    And the blood’s run stale

    I wanna hide the truth
    I wanna shelter you
    But with the beast inside
    There’s nowhere we can hide

    No matter what we breed
We still are made of greed
    This is my kingdom come
    This is my kingdom come

    When you feel my heat
    Look into my eyes
    It’s where my demons hide
    It’s where my demons hide
    Don’t get too close
    It’s dark inside
    It’s where my demons hide
    It’s where my demons hide

    At the curtain’s call
    It’s the last of all
    When the lights fade out
    All the sinners crawl

    So they dug your grave
    And the masquerade
    Will come calling out
    At the mess you made

    Don’t wanna let you down
    But I am hell bound
Though this is all for you
    Don’t wanna hide the truth

    No matter what we breed
We still are made of greed
    This is my kingdom come
    This is my kingdom come

    When you feel my heat
    Look into my eyes
    It’s where my demons hide
    It’s where my demons hide
    Don’t get too close
    It’s dark inside
    It’s where my demons hide
    It’s where my demons hide

They say it’s what you make
I say it’s up to fate
    It’s woven in my soul
I need to let you go

Your eyes, they shine so bright
    I wanna save that light
    I can’t escape this now
    Unless you show me how

    When you feel my heat
    Look into my eyes
    It’s where my demons hide
    It’s where my demons hide
    Don’t get too close
    It’s dark inside
    It’s where my demons hide
    It’s where my demons hide

    And Belle’s perspective:

    Beautiful Disaster, by Kelly Clarkson:
    He drowns in his dreams
    An exquisite extreme I know
He’s as damned as he seems
And more heaven than a heart could hold
And if I try to save him
My whole world could cave in
    It just ain’t right
    It just ain’t right

    Oh and I don’t know
    I don’t know what he’s after
    But he’s so beautiful
    Such a beautiful disaster
And if I could hold on
Through the tears and the laughter
    Would it be beautiful?
    Or just a beautiful disaster

    He’s magic and myth
As strong as what I believe
    A tragedy with
More damage than a soul should see
And do I try to change him?
So hard not to blame him
    Hold on tight
    Hold on tight

    Oh ’cause I don’t know
    I don’t know what he’s after
    But he’s so beautiful
    Such a beautiful disaster
And if I could hold on
Through the tears and the laughter
    Would it be beautiful?
    Or just a beautiful disaster

I’m longing for love and the logical
    But he’s only happy hysterical
I’m waiting for some kind of miracle
    Waited so long
    So long

    He’s soft to the touch
But frayed at the end he breaks
    He’s never enough
And still he’s more than I can take

    Oh ’cause I don’t know
    I don’t know what he’s after
    But he’s so beautiful
    Such a beautiful disaster
And if I could hold on
Through the tears and the laughter
    Would it be beautiful?
    Or just a beautiful disaster

    He’s beautiful
    Such a beautiful disaster

    [Fading]
    Beautiful
    (Beautiful disaster)
    Beautiful disaster

^ That’s pretty amazing Keb, thanks for posting those! 🙂 Now it’s time for something silly. 😛

    —

So, whenever we talk about Henry’s crazy family tree, it always makes me think of this song. I knew this song as a kid, but I never expected to find a family tree wackier than this. But OUAT succeeded! 😆

Because Henry is his own Great-Uncle, Regina is both his Mother and his Step-Great-Grandmother, Emma is both his Mother and his Step-Niece(?) …

You know, all that stuff! 😆 So anyway, here’s the song:

    I’m My Own Grandpa
    Written by Ray Stevens

    —

Many, many years ago when I was twenty-three
I was married to a widow who was pretty as could be
This widow had a grown-up daughter who had hair of red
My father fell in love with her and soon they too were wed

I’m my own grandpa, I’m my own grandpa
It sounds funny, I know but it really is so
    I’m my own grandpa

This made my dad my son-in-law and really changed my life
For now my daughter was my mother, ’cause she was my father’s wife
And to complicate the matter, even though it brought me joy
I soon became the father of a bouncing baby boy

My little baby then became a brother-in-law to dad
And so became my uncle, though it made me very sad
For if he were my uncle, then that also made him brother
Of the widow’s grownup daughter, who was of course my step-mother

I’m my own grandpa, I’m my own grandpa
It sounds funny, I know but it really is so
    I’m my own grandpa

Father’s wife then had a son who kept them on the run
And he became my grandchild, for he was my daughter’s son
My wife is now my mother’s mother and it makes me blue
Because although she is my wife, she’s my grandmother too

Now if my wife is my grandmother, then I’m her grandchild
And every time I think of it, it nearly drives me wild
‘Cause now I have become the strangest ‘case you ever saw
As husband of my grandmother, I am my own grandpa

I’m my own grandpa, I’m my own grandpa
It sounds funny, I know but it really is so
    I’m my own grandpa

So just think how crazy it gets if Zelena really has a baby, and then Regina marries Robin. That child would be Henry’s cousin, and step-sibling, and great-aunt/uncle. All at the same time. 😛

What a fun thread!  So glad you posted this Sci-fi-girl. 🙂

Paul Weller’s Aim High reminds me of Rumbelle and how Rumple loves & needs Belle.  She makes him aim high for their relationship, for him to become a better person & she completes him.  It doesn’t hurt either that RC is a huge Weller fan.  A few years back, a fan tweeted & asked him what his favourite LP was.  RC tweeted back he was listening to Weller’s Days of Speed LP.  Rightly so, as DOS is such a great live acoustic LP.  Apparently, he & Weller are good friends and they look so much alike.  Weller could easily play Rumple’s brother.  The song is so melodic & beautiful; you can get lost in the string section.  If Rumple & Belle were having a romantic evening at home, I’m sure this is what Rumple would be spinning in the turntable.  🙂

That’s gorgeous, glad you posted. 🙂

Ok, I’ll play. I used to love this song long before Once, but now every time I hear it, it makes me think of Neal, the words, the voice, the mood. Reads well as a speculation of what Neal might have been thinking after he lost Emma.

Worth a listen on its own – a beautiful acoustic piece, and the singer’s voice is a bit reminiscent of Johnny Cash.

It’s called Shiola by Murder by Death.

    Lyrics are as follows:

i steal a look between the blinds i unwind she sleeps in comfort in my arms she is plain, but she is mine our child is silent but awake i run my hands through his hair i teach him manners and how to stick up for himself when things get bad i tell him son never throw the first punch and if you must fight make it clean SHIOLA SHIOLA will all be forgiven SHIOLA SHIOLA am i strong enough to start again alone the taste of home is filling up my mouth is it wrong to love a family of ghosts her door is open the windows are all up she says “come inside” i live alone, more or less i summon wife child and happiness build them up from the dirt and clay i have to believe that all will be forgiven SHIOLA SHIOLA my heart is overflowing SHIOLA SHIOLA with love and anger coiled into one they take and take, but never get their fill i try and try and fail against my will i wait and wait for that hand to sweep me up and take me down the road home

@Sci_fi_girl , I grew up with Ray Stevens in my parent’s record collection! Hehehehe.

Okay, I’ll play. I got one for Belle. It’s Sarah McLachlan’s “Do What You Have to Do”. It’s about knowing she has to give up this person but she can’t let go.

Do What You Have To Do

What ravages of spirit conjured this tempestuous rage
Created you a monster broken by the rule of love
And fate has led you through it, you do what you have to do
And fate has led you through it, you do what you have to do

And I have the sense to recognize that I don’t know how to let you go

Every moment marked with apparitions of your soul
I’m ever swiftly moving, trying to escape this desire
The yearning to be near you, I do what I have to do
The yearning to be near you, I do what I have to do

And I have sense to recognize that I don’t know how to let you go
I don’t how to let you go

A glowing ember burning hot and burning slow
Deep within I’m shaken by the violence of existing for only you
I know I can’t be with you, I do what I have to do
I know I can’t be with you, I do what I have to do

And I have sense to recognize but I don’t know how to let you go
I don’t know how to let you go

I don’t know how to let you go

Her proclaiming, “I know I can’t be with you, I do what I have to do” just reminds me of Rumbelle. She can’t be with him. It’s not healthy for her and she recognizes it but it doesn’t mean the love is gone.

    Darn feelings.

I heard this song on the radio for the first time in years yesterday. It definitely makes me think of Emma’s journey in 4B.

I see you by the water
Your toes dipped in the sand
I thought that it was over
    I thought you’d understand
    But the feeling is returning
Though time has made us change
And I understand if you don’t
Wanna talk to me about it tonight
    Tonight

‘Cause I see the light surrounding you
So don’t be afraid of something new

    Time was overtaking me
And I guess I was confused
    They were all inviting me
But I wish I had refused
    ‘Cause I’ve been there before
    And I’ve seen it all
    And I believe in you

And if you never had my heart
I would’ve never called you back
    At the start that night
So I want you to know

That I see the light surrounding you
So don’t be afraid of something new
‘Cause I see the light surrounding you
So don’t be afraid of what you’re turning into

    Blue-eyed sun shines on me
    In the morning
Can’t help but feel a little cold
    Thinking of you

‘Cause I see the light surrounding you
So don’t be afraid of something new
‘Cause I see the light surrounding you
So don’t be afraid of what you’re turning into
    No, don’t be afraid
    Don’t be afraid
    Cos I see the light
    Cos I see the light
Cos I see the light surrounding you

What a great song and he really does sound like a younger version of Johnny Cash.  🙂

It’s nice listening to everyone’s songs and seeing how our music relates to the show’s characters.

“Always Come Back To You” from the little known animated film “The Nutcracker Prince” always reminds me of OUAT. It touches on many of themes presented in the show about fate, love, and hope. Considering how many times they have lost and found each other, this song particularly reminds me of Snowing and their countless trials to be together.

Last night in a dream that came to me
Oh, I saw a face and I knew right then
That you were meant for me

Last night, in a dance from long ago
As the music fades and we walk away
Why did we let it go?

How do you know the first time
Is the right time in your life
Not to let it pass you by
I won’t let it pass me by

And if the winds of fate
Blow our ships off course someday
    No matter where we stray
I know you’ll find your way

I’ll always come back to you
I’ll always come back to you
For once in your life a promise will come true
I’ll always come back to you

Last night in a dream I’ve had before
Oh, I heard your voice calling me
    Like from a distant shore

Oh, last night like a ship lost on the sea
I see the light shining there
To light the way for me

How do you know the first time
Is the right time in your life
Not to let it pass you by
I won’t let it pass me by

And if the winds of fate
Blow our ships off course someday
    No matter where we stray
I know you’ll find your way

I’ll always come back to you
I’ll always come back to you

    When you’re feeling all alone
    A million miles from home
And the dark of night is closing in on you
For once in your life a promise will come true
I’ll always come back to you

    You’re feeling all alone
    A million miles from home
And the dark of night is closing in on you
Once in your life a promise will come true
I’ll always come back to you

I’ll always come back to you
I’ll always come back to you
I’ll always come back to you
