ParticipantI would love to see Jafar again and he would be the perfect choice for sorcerer…however, I think the ultimate evil will be Cora.
For three seasons the use of sorcerer or sorceress was always female and very related to Cora. Was Cora truly Rumple’s apprentice…or did she set him up. Who was the master? I think it was Cora all along.
Here are the uses of the word sorcerer or sorceress
2×05 (Sorceress – one who rips out hearts) The first mention of sorcerer or sorceress is in 205, The Doctor. It is in the context of the assumption that the Evil Queen was a sorceress who could rip out hearts. Regina replies that she won’t use magic for evil. Of course the one who does rip out hearts is Cora…definitely would meet the definition for sorceress used here. The word apprentice is also used in this episode.
2×11 – (Sorceress – one who banished) The next mention of sorcerer or sorceress is in The Outsider. Prince Phillip tells Belle that Maleficent, an evil sorceress from his kingdom did everything in her power to keep him apart from Aurora his true love. Maleficent exiled him to the land and turned him into a monster.
2×13 (Sorceress – Cora) The next mention of sorcerer or sorceress is in Tiny. The dwarves are on Cora watch. Mary Margaret says, “Really? How hard can it be to find a powerful sorceress in a small town?”
3×15 – (sorcery is mentioned) The candlestick lies and says that he spent 200 years in Rumples library witnessing dark magic and sorcery. I find this interesting as when Regina is looking for Cora’s candle, Belle asks if she is looking for the candlestick and indicates she isn’t looking for that Liberace. I believe somehow Cora had an escape clause with the candle because it was her own magic. I’ve posted elsewhere that I believe Cora is still around, whether in person, in spirit or as a symbiont living within another organism.
3×16 – (sorceress – Zelena and Cora) The next occurrence is Robin Hood reading the letter Rumple wrote to Cora. “Cora, dear, I’ve finally got my hands on your first born. Never thought I’d find her, did you? Now I know why; She’s the most powerful sorceress I’ve ever encountered. Even more powerful than you (indicating Cora is also a sorceress but Zelena is more powerful). Stunning in every way.”
3×19 – (sorceress – Regina and Zelena) The next occurrence is Snow White saying that again she is about to give birth and an evil sorceress is threatening the future of her child.
3×20 – (sorceress – prophesied sorceress who will protect Oz) Glinda – book foretells of powerful sorceress from the West by cyclone and will make Oz her home.
4×00 – (sorcerer – Rumplestiltskin) “Rumplestiltskin was the most powerful sorcerer of dark magic” “And now he is the strongest sorcerer throughout every world we’ve been to ”
4×04 – (sorcerer but of unknown identity) Zoso – “You are not the sorcerer” etc.
4×05 – (sorceress – Emma sort of) Emma says to Regina that she is not sorceress of the year
4×06 – (sorcerers plural and also sorcerer Rumple) – Anna – “A hat which can strip the magic from the most powerful of sorcerers.” “I sort of stole it from an evil sorcerer.”
4×07 – (sorcerer Rumple) – whispers of a man, a sorcerer, who might be powerful enough to control Ingrid’s power…where does sorcerer live…
I’ve run out of time but I think the history of the words sorcerer and sorceress shows that it could be a female and I vote for Cora.

ParticipantI’ve also been wondering if the sorcerer could actually be the sorceress. If the title of sorcerer can be passed on the way the title of author can, then I think maybe Lily could become the sorceress, especially if her father is the sorcerer, as I suspect he could be.

Lily would be a wonderful sorceress. I really do think we have a good chance of a sorceress. I think this is why they made such a big deal about how the author could be a he or a she. I tweeted Jane Espenson a couple of days ago about the female sorceress pattern in the first three seasons. I’ve got a screen shot of her reply. I’m looking forward to Sunday. This should be a great finale.
