So with the release of the promo pictures and a certain crystal ball, I was looking to find a clip of how that scene plays in the movie from MGM. As I was reading one of those summary pages, I came across a movie from 2012 that I never heard about.
It’s called Dorothy and the Witches of Oz. [/green] The plot features a grown up Dorothy who lives in NY as a children’s author of books. She repressed her memories of her trip to Oz. The Wicked Witch finds her there, and wants to steal back the key to OZ. The Witch pretends to be a literary agent, adopts a persona for it, but her intention is to take over not just Oz, but Neverland, Narnia and all classic lands. Now at this point, it starts to sound rather familiar to OUAT’s set-up in a way.
The funniest part of all this is, as I’m looking at the cast list, I see a rather familiar name. Ethan Embry aka Greg aka Owen.

I am now going to be extremely disappointed if we do not start getting more Oz hints, especially some from the Greg/Owen story. I do think GOAT will get killed off, but before they go, we could learn some things that might give more Oz hints.
I have a feeling that NL is not going to be a season long thing at all. They already said they envisioned it like a movie for each half of the next seasons, so I think maybe first half would be NL/PP and second half will go to Oz.
What if the reason PP wants Henry has something to do with a threat from Oz?

In the movie, the wicked witch wanted to take over all the worlds and even named Narnia as one she would conquer. What if PP is trying to protect his world? That would definetly be a complicated motivation.

L. Frank Baum’s father made his fortune in the oil fields of Pennsylvania of all places, the same state Greg’s car was from.
There was also that scene in the hospital where Greg was standing in the doorway, all but right next to the very randomly placed poster of a lion with HONOR written on it, which I immediately took as a Cowardly Lion shoutout.
Probably one or two other things I’m forgetting now too, but basically, if it turns out that THO does have some tie to Oz, I’ll be doing the crackpot theory victory dance. 😛

I’d originally expected them to spend the majority of S3 in NL. Seems unlikely now, and it’s looking more like they’ll be outta there in 311 or 312. I think the second half of the season will be set back in SB. Introducing two new, iconic lands in the same season sorta takes away the epic impact of each one. Saving Oz for S4 would allow it to stand out on its own, and the same for NL, rather than having them mashed too closely together and sorta stealing each other’s thunder.
I think that once they get back to SB, there’ll be more storyline involving THO coming to town, trying to destroy it, or expose it, or posing some sort of threat. THO were helping PP, but I think they were also working their own agenda of some description. As we get towards the end of S3, I think that agenda will be revealed, as will the big boss behind THO, who I’m guessing it the Wizard. Once the SBers figure out what’s really going on, and formulate a plan to take down THO once and for all, the Wizard will flee back to Oz, and then S4 will be Oz-centric.
That’s my current thinking anyway. Will probably change my mind a frillion times by the time S3 has played out.

1) A picture of flying monkeys is visible in Henry’s book in the pilot (1×1).
2) A door with a green curtain is visible in Jefferson’s magic hat portal, clearly a reference to the curtain the Wizard of Oz hid behind (1×17).
3) Jefferson gave Rumple an orb that he probably collected from the Wicked Witch of Oz (2×5). Incidentally, this orb is also visible in the promo pics of Neal, Mulan and Robin Hood, leading many to speculate Neal will use it to locate Henry and Emma (3×1).
4) Rumple inquired about the magic slippers that travel between a magic realm to A Land Without Magic – probably Dorothy’s magic slippers (2×5).
5) Mulan gave magic knock-out powder made from magic poppies to Emma (2×6) and to Snow (2×8), a clear reference to the magic poppies of Oz whose potent fragrance put Dorothy to sleep.
6) Tamara mentioned that SB wasn’t the first time magic had crept into A Land Without Magic, which is possibly a reference to Dorothy and Oz. (I can’t remember which episode – maybe 2×18).
Also, there was a recent TV Guide spoiler this summer from Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis which gives a lot of reason to suspect that Oz may be where S3 is headed in its second half.
Will we actually see the Land of Oz this season?
Kitsis: Perhaps.Horowitz: Let’s talk about that question in December.
Kitsis: Not in the first pod of episodes.
In other words, oz could possibly be mentioned or even seen in the second part of S3!

September 12, 2013 at 9:13 am #209308RumplesGirlKeymasterYay to OZ! I’ve always been on board the Oz/THO connection train and I’ve wanted Oz for a long time now.
Question is: why do they go there? If they’re all in NL (let’s say Bae and Belle join the JR6) then do they accidentally go to Oz or home to SB and then something drives to OZ?

From a storytelling perspective, I think it’d be easier to explain if Emma and her gang find a way to travel directly from NL to Oz than it is to travel to Oz via SB. Now that the magic beans have been destroyed, it’s far more difficult to travel between a A Land Without Magic and a magical realm. So, it’d be easier if Tinkerbell just used her pixie dust to enchant the Jolly Roger to fly directly from NL to Oz in the second half of S3. As to why Emma and her gang decide to travel to Oz, I can only wildly speculate. Maybe while Belle is protecting SB, she will somehow uncover that the Home Office is actually headquartered in Oz, and so they travel there to root out the threat once and for all.

September 12, 2013 at 9:24 am #209312RumplesGirlKeymasterSo this occurred to me, reading Slurpeez post
How to get to London from NL (via Disney movie): pixie dust makes the JR float
How to get to Oz from our land (wizard style): hot air balloon
What if they combine the two? The JR has been sprinkled with magic dust but it takes everyone to Oz, on accident, instead of home to SB. And Oz is a much happier place, though troubled, than NL. After the darkness of NL, they’re going to need some happyness.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"September 12, 2013 at 9:42 am #209318PheeParticipantOne of the issues I have with them going from NL to Oz for the back half of S3 is that by the back half of S3, we’ll all be desperate to catch up on SB, and perhaps even a bit fatigued of always seeing the group that’s gonna be in NL. If they then go to Oz, we’re stuck in the same situation as the first 11, where we have to focus on the group of heroes and what they’re up to, to the detriment of showing SB.
If they go back to SB, we’ll still see those JR6 characters, but the secondary characters, (and Belle, if she doesn’t make it to NL), can be brought back into the mix, so it won’t be JR6 overkill any more. They can reunite with their friends, regroup in a familiar place, and then things can start going wrong again as the setup for heading to Oz in S4.
September 12, 2013 at 10:07 am #209319RumplesGirlKeymasterExcellent points, Phee. It might be a bit too much to introduce a second land/story on top of a very heavy and dark NL. Regrouping in SB would be a way to lighten the load. Also, I still think they need a reason to go to Oz. Accidentally getting to Oz seems a bit lackluster in the story department. I’d rather it be something like, “they need the witches broomstick to kill all the Ogres in FTL” It would take a lot, I imagine, to convince Emma and Neal to want to go to another land, so it has to be something important.

That would be a rather clever mash-up!
Another idea occurred to me that if Oz is the headquarters for the Home Office, that Dr. Whale could also be the Wizard of Oz and have cleverly planned it to be in SB working from the inside as a double agent. Maybe? Probably not though.

Perhaps Eddy and Adam were testing the waters by putting SB under threat last year. They wanted to get fan feedback about the potential abandonment of SB altogether. If SB had entirely disappeared, how would the story proceed? I think there were mixed reactions, if I recall correctly. While I agree that SB is important to an extent, I also feel like it’s served it’s purpose. I’d almost prefer if everyone in SB just returned to their homeland, the Enchanted Forest, as they all seem to want to do (well everyone except for Neal and Emma, but they seem unable to escape whatever destiny has in store for them returning to magical realms).
