Apparently you didn’t watch or read the Harry Potter story because Harry had the use of his hands. As for talking under the sea/ocean all Rumble had to do was scare the Squid which would produce the ink and the could therefore collect it. Also, note Rumble doesn’t need a wand to do magic with so I am sure he could figure out something to get the ink.
Excuse me? I’ve watched and read the HP series a great many times. I am ALLOWED to forget one small fraction of a detail every now and then when I’m trying to respond to everyone’s posts. Yes, Harry did have his hands, but your first suggestion was turning into a fish which was what I was responding to. They could do that here but they can’t outright copy the HP Gillyweed because copyright.
I still the mermaids are a bigger possibility since mermaids are already in NL and we know about Rumple’s penchant for making deals. This adds more to the mermaid mythology and storyline rather than some CGI-ed swimming Rumple with gills.[adrotate group="5"]"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"August 27, 2013 at 9:58 am #206805PheeParticipantIf Rumple did get the squid ink himself rather than getting a mermaid to do it then the mermaids must hold him in high regard as the dark one not to kill him. Charming and the others aren’t going to be so lucky.
They could still hold him in high regard even if he didn’t get the ink himself. Maybe he didn’t have to go out of his way to trade for it, maybe they were happy to do him a favour and get him some, especially if he gave them some story about how he was gonna use it against a nasty human. The way I interpreted, “impossible to find, unless you’re a mermaid…or me” has always been, “impossible to find, unless you’re a mermaid…or someone like me who has mermaid connections and can therefore get anything he bloody well pleases, even if it’s something only mermaids can get to.”
Also if the JR6 has a bad experience with the mermaids upon entering Neverland, then when Ariel shows up, they may think she’s just like the other mermaids and be very hostile to her.
I think she’s human in present day, so they may not know she’s a mermaid right off the bat. Though everyone on the ship except for Hook will know the story of TLM, so they should be able to figure it out pretty quickly, even if she doesn’t currently have a tail. (Part of my headcanon has been that Hook knew her as a human in NL, but didn’t know she’d been a mermaid, and he’ll find out in present day and it’ll alter how he sees her, due to his predisposition to hate mermaids.) I absolutely think they’re gonna make mermaids nasty pieces of work who drown humans for fun so they can then show Ariel as the exception to the rule. She’s famous for saving a guy from drowning.

If Ariel has gone missing and Rumple is dealing with Triton or maybe one of Ariel’s sisters, it would slightly ironic if he helped them find their family member while his whole mission is to find his own (and of course Bae is sitting up in a tree somewhere watching all this realizing how good his papa has become at magic and at finding people).

I feel like he wasn’t just mad about the abandonment–that he was actively avoiding him because he knew having his father in his life would be dangerous for anyone around him.

that’s a possibility too. If Rumple tried to make a deal and it went sour, he might resort to cruelty which would only prove to Bae that his papa really had changed.

I keep going back though to where they are driving the story. The whole arc is “save Henry” and part of that is Henry represents hope really, always has on this show. All the characters need to find their hope, their faith in themselves to be what they want.
Where does the Little Mermaid fit in that? She was caught between two worlds. She hoped for adventure and love. I think as she won’t come until the 6th episode in, she is pivotal in some way, mid-way through the mini-season. Could she be involved in reuniting Neal with the others? Finding a way for them to get to Henry (maybe helping them sneak through an underwater cave or something) or a way out of Neverland (a portal).
Whatever backstory they give her, in terms of the original or Disney TLM, the writers need to make her relevant in this battle in NL.

You raise a lot of good points. Earlier, I had suggested that Ariel would have some inside knowledge about Peter Pan if she has spied on the human world of NL. If so, then she would prove to be a very valuable ally for the JR6 in their quest to save Henry. Also, I like the possibility of Ariel playing a key role in helping Neal reunite with everyone or helping the group escape in NL, possibly through an underwater portal.

But of course in my head, Ariel isn’t human yet. I know other people have different headcanons.
I’d like to think that Ariel has been spying on PP and knows the location of Henry or that she knows the location of some lost boys who will help out the JR6 as they prepare to go into battle.
"He was a lot of things to me" "The only conclusion was love"August 27, 2013 at 1:40 pm #206840PheeParticipantI’ve wondered before if perhaps she could have begun living with the Lost Ones at some point. That would give her inside knowledge that could help the JR6. Even if she didn’t live with them, but lived somewhere nearby, she’d know the current lay of the land, and may see them with Henry, which again, could be used to help the JR6. The version of headcanon that has her living with them, also involves her having known Bae during the time he was held there, so when she finds out that Henry is Bae’s son, she’s emotionally invested in helping to free him.
