Just for the heck of it here’s a heraldic definition of Robin’s tattoo: sable a lion rampant argent

The Charge (the emblem)  is of a Argent (silver/white or in this case nude) heraldic tiger (commonly perceived as a lion) with its Attitude (position)  being the Rampant pose (on it’s hind legs with head in profile)  facing the Sinister (left) direction on the Fess (center) of a Sable (black) field on the Escutcheon (heraldic shield)

Conversely they may take a page from William Shakespeare’s Hamlet here: an uncle deposes his brother to posses his throne and his brother’s widow and his nephew the true heir rather than talking to skulls in this case winds up in exile. Just a thought, just a playful thought…

I quite like that crackpot theory. Quite like it a lot!

I loved how that episode played out, with the “is it Hook or Hood?” tension about who Regina’s 2nd Twoo Wuv was. For me, I narrowed it down to those two given the way we were introduced to Lion Tattoo Guy: drinking with mates (crew?) in a pub. Also, from behind, Hook and Hood look similar – deliberately I would say.

Happy it was Hood rather than Hook because I want to see some CaptainSwannage while the Scooby Gang still believe that Neal is dead.

Totally agree on all discussion here about lion tattoo = nod to traditional Robin Hood story re: Robin being a knight of the Crusades that fought with/for Richard the Lionheart (especially as that was the motivation for his story battles against the Sheriff of Nottingham: Sheriff, and in some tales the future King John, are portrayed as schemers taking liberties while King Richard is away; Robin and his Merry Men start to dispense the true King’s justice in the name of Richard) I have no idea how or even if OUaT will bring Lionheart into the EF mythos. Maybe the tatt is just a nod to the tradition, and nothing more.

I love this thread so much I had to register.  Great catch that George’s coat of arms is a reversed version of the tattoo.

That is the story that appeals to me the most.  I wonder if there is anything from the Disney vault that is similar to Hamlet?

    Perhaps one involving … Lions?

Call me dumb but I had never cottoned on to the Hamlet parallels with The Lion King…. They are quite obvious when you think about it!
