Probably the two most commonly seen items on the show other than the storybook, the spinning wheel and the wishing well each hold significance in fairy tales.
The spinning wheel (or spindle) of course is associated with sleep and thus, to certain extent, dreams. The wishing well, as the name implies, is connected to making wishes, and thus connected to hope and changing reality.
Spinning/weaving is associated with fate as with The Fates of mythology – the spinning, measuring, and cutting of the thread of one’s life/fate/destiny/etc. Wishing, as stated above, is connected to the act of hoping change will come, usually without external influence or personal involvement.
Does anyone think these themes have been shown in the show? Can you think of any other symbolisms connected to the spindle and three well?
I’ve found a couple sites that go into detail on the importance of the spinning wheel in fairy tales but have yet to find anything specifically about the wishing well as associated with fairy tales. That’s strange.

And here is the tale of Frau Holle as written by the Brothers Grimm which uses both wheel and well:

I wouldn’t consider that a commonly seen item. Not like Snow’s ring which we see almost every episode since she starting wearing it in Ep 3.

I’m almost positive that Rumpel gave Midas his golden curse. POSITIVE!!!

OMG! Definitely, great thought!! I bet Midas wasn’t very specific in asking when he made that deal 😆

Well, in truth, Midas wasn’t specific, he was just greedy. In the story of Midas, he asks that anything he touches be turned to gold. Unlike the show, in the story there was no way to shield the golden touch, nor was it only in one hand. In the story, everything Midas touched turned to gold – furniture and clothes of which he soon became bored, food and drink of which he could not consume, and even his own daughter was turned into a gold statue when she hugged him at which point Midas sought to remove the Golden Touch and reverse what happened to his daughter. I wonder what happened to Midas and if he made it to SB.
